A maturity model for logistics 4.0: an empirical analysis and a roadmap for future research

    No full text
The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies has become particularly important nowadays for companies in order to optimize their production processes and organizational structures. However, companies sometimes find it difficult to develop a strategic plan that innovates their current business model and develops an Industry 4.0 vision. To overcome the growing uncertainty and dissatisfaction in implementing Industry 4.0, new methods and tools that specifically address dedicated companies' areas, such as logistics, supply chain management, and manufacturing processes, were developed to provide guidance and support to align companies' business strategies and operations. In particular, this paper develops and presents the application of a maturity model for Logistics 4.0, focusing on the specific applications of Industry 4.0 in the area of logistics. To do so, extant maturity models, linked to the context of Industry 4.0 implementation in logistics processes, were examined in the main scientific research. Afterward, two companies have been investigated through a survey, built around three fundamental macro-aspects, named (i) the propensity of the company towards Industry 4.0 and Logistics 4.0, (ii) the current use of technologies in the logistics process, and (iii) the investments' level towards Industry 4.0 technologies for a Logistics 4.0 transition. By doing so, a maturity model for Logistics 4.0 emerged as the main result of our research, able to identify the level of maturity of companies in implementing the Industry 4.0 technologies in their logistics processes. Moreover, the model highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the two investigated companies with respect to the transition towards Logistics 4.0. On the basis of the obtained results, a roadmap for enhancing the digitalization of logistics processes, according to the principles of the fourth industrial revolution, was finally proposed

Rilevazione tecnica della crisi d'impresa: strumenti a disposizione e loro limiti

    No full text

Socioemotional wealth and innovativeness in Italian family firms: what happens when the leader is a latest-generation member?

    No full text
In this study, we attempt a further step in understanding the effect of different socioemotional (SEW) dimensions on family firm innovativeness by focusing on a particular player, i.e. the young leader who belongs to the last generation of family managers and who is increasingly engaged in the firm management. After surveying young leaders noneconomic goals with respect to those of senior members in a sample of Italian family firms, such goals are analysed in relation to the level of firm innovativeness. Obtained through a hierarchical regression, results show that two SEW dimensions above all characterize young leaders when they foster innovation: a low emotional attachment on one hand, a high attention to nurture binding social ties on the other

Trading off between control and autonomy: a narrative review around de-design

    No full text
In this work, we provide an overview of contemporary perspectives of design that may challenge the traditional design of IT and socio-technical systems. Our starting metaphor is that of 'wicked problems', where the singularity, incompleteness and intrinsic uncertainty of real world settings foregrounds how the worldview that designers offer to practitioners may be optimal in theory but useless in practice. To go beyond traditional notions of design and designer, we intercepted insights coming from minoritarian voices in both theoretic and practice-based design fields. 'De-design' is a term we coined to encompass this wide spectrum of approaches that make more resilient and sustainable information artifact, de-emphasize design as a theoretical construct, and reconsider practice as the leading principle of digital innovation. This paper is a narrative review of voices in an extensive array of fields: from Information Systems to Human-Computer Interaction, from End-User Development to Critical Design, from Software Design to Design Studies. Our contribution retraces the motivational roots of de-design and tries to characterise de-design by filling relational gaps between disparate approaches and by bringing them back to IT and socio-technical design, to make digital artifacts sustainable in all of the new environmental, organisational and cultural spaces near to come

Il coinvolgimento dell'industria di marca nelle tecnologie digitali in-store

    No full text
New technologies are reshaping the retail industry and have become a significant driver of customer value creation and retail profitability. In the academic literature, these technologies have been generally studied either from the retailer's perspective or from the consumer's perspective, but to our knowledge never from the manufacturer's perspective. However, manufacturers are heavily involved in how their products and brands are stocked, displayed and sold by retailers, and invest significant resources in visual merchandising activities. It follows that manufacturers who sell through retail stores can take a significant stake in the development and implementation of new technologies to enhance their customers' experience and to increase the effectiveness of their brand's visual merchandising. An empirical research on a sample of 145 manufacturers of the grocery industry in Italy shows that: a) visual merchandising activities are oriented mainly to improve retail in-store efficiency, i.e. to optimize space management; b) there are four segments of manufacturers who assign different priorities to visual merchandising; and c) in each segment there is a very high variance in the willingness to implement in-store digital. Results confirm that in-store digital technologies are still an area of experimentation and test to estimate the effectiveness of digital tools

A systematic literature network analysis of existing themes and emerging research trends in circular economy

    No full text
The debate about Circular Economy (CE) has been increasingly enriched by academics through a vast array of contributions, based on several theoretical perspectives and emanating from several research domains. However, current research still falls short of providing a holistic and broader view of CE, one that combines existing themes and emerging research trends. Accordingly, based on a Systematic Literature Network Analysis, this paper tackles this gap. First, a Citation Network Analysis is used to unearth the development of the CE literature based on papers’ references, whilst the Main Path is traced to detect the seminal papers in the field through time. Second, to consider the literature in its broader extent, a Keywords Co-Occurrence Network Analysis is conducted based on papers’ keywords, whereby all papers in the dataset, including the non-cited papers, are assessed. Additionally, a Global Citation Score analysis is conducted to uncover the recent breakthrough research, in addition to the Burst Analysis used to detect the dynamic development of CE literature over time. By doing so, the paper explores the development of the CE body of knowledge, reveals its dynamic evolution over time, detects its main theoretical perspectives and research domains, and highlights its emerging topics. Our findings unfold the evidence of eight main trends of research about CE, unearth the path through which the CE concept emerged and has been growing, and concludes with promising avenues for future research
