The figures that characterize our Country show a lengthening of the population's average age, in fact life expectancy has a growing forecast trend (Paganelli, 2015). This demographic change, in absence of contrast interventions, would have, as natural consequence, the rise of cared people affected by a pathology in chronic stage as well as of the most serious patients with poly-chronicity. Such a scenario would make, then, the charge on the National Healthcare Service and the system sustainability in the long term more burdensome (Biselli D. 2016)
The status of the concept of reference object in measurement in the human sciences compared to the physical sciences [Joint IMEKO TC1-TC7-TC13-TC18 Symposium 2019, St. Petersburg, Russia, 2-5 July 2019]
For measurement in the human sciences, one barrier to being able to see the commonalities with measurement in the physical sciences has been the common prominence that is often given to the important place that "reference objects" are given in introductory accounts in metrology. The obvious difficulties in having such objects, say, "reference humans", makes it difficult to build connections. In this paper, we outline a way to broaden the concept of a reference object in way that addresses this issue. In this light we then discuss the recent developments in the International System of Units (SI), and comment on certain similarities.2-5 July 201
Creating shared value and clusters: the case of an Italian cluster initiative in food waste prevention
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, it aims at reconciling the literature on creating shared value (CSV) with the one on cluster development, searching for complementarities and similarities. Second, it aims at understanding the role of cluster development in CSV. For these reasons, the authors operationalized the general idea of cluster development with the widely accepted concept of cluster initiatives, i.e. systematic efforts aimed at cluster development. The authors focused on exploring the process of launching and supporting local cluster initiatives through empirical evidence. In particular, the authors aimed at analyzing how a CSV strategy can be defined and developed when adopted within a cluster initiative. Design/methodology/approach: The research draws on a critical review of the literature focusing on CSV and on a conceptual reconciliation between the literature on the CSV ecosystem with the one on clusters, and more specifically on those initial cluster initiatives. The authors relied on an exploratory case study of an Italian cluster initiative in CSV, i.e. the Science and Innovation Food District (SIFooD) cluster promoted by Whirlpool. Thanks to the richness and great availability of information about the case, this study primarily relied on the use of secondary data. Findings: The case of SIFooD has highlighted how Whirlpool promoted the cluster initiative within its CSV framework to achieve sustainable and collaborative innovation in food waste prevention and, conversely, how SIFooD enhanced CSV of its cluster members. To arrange its network development process, SIFooD has implemented all the elements that prior literature has considered fundamental for launching and supporting a successful cluster initiative. On the other hand, SIFooD was able to adopt a collective-impact approach, implementing the five elements needed in its ecosystem to create shared value. Moreover, thanks to all the activities comprised in the SIFooD cluster initiative, shared value was actually created. Research limitations/implications: The present paper has some limitations. First of all, the empirical analysis focuses only on one cluster initiative; thus, cross/comparative analyses with other cluster initiatives may illuminate the findings better. Second, the authors relied on a very recent cluster initiative in a particular field (food waste prevention) and in one specific institutional context (Italy); thus, data may suffer from temporal, industrial and geographical biases. Originality/value: Literature on the border between CSV and clusters is still in its infancy and almost nothing is known about their relationship, despite them being intimately related since the inception of this field. The paper qualifies for a very first attempt to understand how firms promote clusters, through cluster initiatives, for the sake of CSV and how clusters may enhance CSV of firms
Reinventing leadership: new approaches and the perspective of Italian millennials
The business world is changing and it is expected that a new generation of employees (millennials), whose needs, ideas and expectations are different from those of the past, will make up 75% of the workforce by 2025. The present study is aimed at understanding what competencies are needed for a leader to relate to millennials. To answer this question, the authors have collected the perspective of this group from the millennials themselves. Our proposal is based on a wealth of experience and integrates many of the latest, best, most robust and practical approaches on the theme of leadership, with research carried out on a group of 240 freshmen in our university in order to obtain the millennial point of view
Internationalization and innovation performance: the role of family management
The aim of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the relationships among internationalization, family-managed firms and innovation by adopting the theoretical perspective of the resource based-view theory (RBV). Leveraging on the relevance of the firms' set of resources and in particular on the unique bundle of resources in family firms, specifically the intangible resources, the paper examines how internationalization and family involvement in the management independently, as well as jointly, influence the innovation performance. We provide empirical evidence by using a panel data of roundly 9,000 Spanish manufacturing firms via regression analysis. Firstly, results show that both internationalization and family involvement in the management have a positive effect on innovation performance. Second, by exploring the moderation role of family management, it critically emerges as positive and significant further factor, which emphasizes the effect of internationalization on innovation. Finally, conclusion, limitations and an agenda for further research are discussed

The role of business model design in the diffusion of innovations: an analysis of a sample of unicorn-tech companies
Innovation scholars have long studied how and why new products and services diffuse into the market following trajectories such as the S-curve and in accordance with epidemic, social, and information cascade models. However, we see today many new products and services, especially those enabled by digital technologies, which do not seem to fit the above-mentioned trajectories and models due to the incredibly high speed and virulence at which they diffuse. Moreover, the diffusion of these innovations does not seem to depend, contrary to what the previous patterns of innovation diffusion argue, on their technological characteristics or on demand-side factors, such as the word-of-mouth effect or the feedback they receive from their early adopters. Rather, their diffusion seems to be affected by the characteristics of the business model adopted by the companies that have created and commercialized them into the market. Accordingly, our study analyzes through the historical research methodology the business model of a sample of 50 Unicorn tech-companies, which have experienced incredibly fast diffusion rates and business growth and are disrupting entire industries. The outcome of our study is a framework that maps two business model configurations that explain the role of different business model design and innovation choices in the diffusion of new products and services enabled by digital technologies
