The use of the non-lexical sound öö in Hungarian same-turn self-repair
This paper explores the use of the non-lexical schwa-like sound öö in three Hungarianself-initiated same-turn self-repair phenomena, namely, searching, replacing, and searching converted into aborting. Sinceself-repair inherently prevents the turn from progressing towards possible completion, by deploying the non-lexical öö in the course of the three repair operations, speakers can vocalize and promise continuation withoutproducing lexical elements. Öö thus serves as a delaying technique and an indication that the speaker is aware ofthe obligation to make the unit-under-way recognizably complete, and is ready to satisfy this obligation. When theturn-in-progress is halted and verbally marked with öö in the course of the three repair operations underinvestigation, the speaker displays to the other participants that the turn is problematic in some respects, but she is ready toattend to the problem in order to produce a recognizably complete action
Changes in Locomotor Activity Observed During Acute Nicotine Withdrawal Can Be Attenuated by Ghrelin and GHRP-6 in Rats
Background/Objectives: Ghrelin and growth hormone-releasing peptide 6 (GHRP-6) are peptides which can stimulate GH release, acting through the same receptor. Ghrelin and its receptor have been involved in reward sensation and addiction induced by natural and artificial drugs, including nicotine. The present study aimed to investigate the impacts of ghrelin and GHRP-6 on the horizontal and vertical activity in rats exposed to chronic nicotine treatment followed by acute nicotine withdrawal. Methods: Male and female Wistar rats were exposed daily to intraperitoneal (ip) injection with 2 mg/kg nicotine or saline solution for 7 days, twice a day (at 8:00 and at 20:00). In parallel, the rats were exposed daily to an intracerebroventricular (icv) injection with 1 μg/2 μL ghrelin or 1 μg/2 μL GHRP-6 or saline solution for 7 days, once a day (at 8:00). On the morning of the eighth day (12 h after the last ip administration) and the ninth day (24 h after the last ip administration), the horizontal and vertical activity were monitored in a conducta system. Results: On the eighth day, in nicotine-treated rats a significant hyperactivity was observed, that was reduced significantly by ghrelin and GHRP-6. On the ninth day, in nicotine-treated rats a significant hypoactivity was assessed that was reversed significantly by ghrelin and GHRP-6. Conclusions: Based on the present results, the changes in horizontal and vertical activity observed after 12 and 24 h of nicotine withdrawal can be attenuated by ghrelin and GHRP-6
Clinical Validation of a Video-Otoscopy-Based Medical Device for the Remote Diagnosis of Ear Complaints
Telemedicine brings several benefits to patients, healthcare providers, and the wider society, including reductions in the need for hospitalizations or readmissions, as well as in overall healthcare costs and the length of inpatient stay. In addition, these services may provide psychological benefits to patients, including excellent satisfaction and medication adherence. The present study aimed to investigate an in-house-developed otorhinolaryngologic remote diagnostic system (mobile app). The basis of the comparison was the incidence between the diagnoses and therapies made by remote diagnosticians and on-site specialists based on static images and videos captured by a smartphone otoscope device. In the study, 103 patients were involved. After registering demographic data, the telemedicine software was evaluated by comparing the matching of physically established diagnoses and/or therapies with remotely established diagnoses and/or therapies. The most remarkable result was in concordance with the diagnoses, with 79 matches identified of the 103 cases examined; the rate of the matching cases was 76.7% (95% CI: 68.5–84.9%). These results support that telemedicine-based otorhinolaryngological remote diagnostics could play a significant role in future healthcare

CamKIIα and VPAC1 Expressions in the Caudal Trigeminal Nucleus of Rats After Systemic Nitroglycerin Treatment: Interaction with Anandamide
Migraines are a frequently occurring neurological condition that affects up to 16% of the global population. The precise pathomechanism of the disease remains unknown, but from animal and human observations, it appears that calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II alpha (CamKIIα), pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP), and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) are involved in its pathogenesis. One of the animal models of migraines uses the systemic administration of nitroglycerin (NTG), which, as a nitric oxide (NO) donor, initiates a self-amplifying process in the trigeminal system, leading to central sensitization. Endocannabinoids, such as anandamide (AEA), are thought to play a modulatory role in trigeminal activation and sensitization phenomena. In the present experiment, we aimed to investigate the effect of NTG and AEA on CamKIIα, PACAP/VIP, and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide type 1 receptor (VPAC1) expression levels in the upper cervical spinal cord (C1-C2) of rats, where trigeminal nociceptive afferents are clustered. Four groups of animals were formed: in the first group, the rats received only the vehicle; in the second group, they were treated with an intraperitoneal injection of NTG (10 mg/kg); animals in the third and fourth groups received AEA (2 × 5 mg/kg) half an hour before and one hour after the placebo or treatment with NTG. Four hours after the placebo/NTG injection, the animals were transcardially perfused, and the cervical spinal cords were removed for Western blot. Our results show that both NTG and AEA alone can increase the expression of CamKIIα and VPAC1 in the C1-C2 segments. Interestingly, the combination of NTG and AEA had no such effect on these markers, possibly due to various negative feedback mechanisms
