Availability and Utilisation of Science Laboratory Facilities on Science Teacher-Trainees’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Science
This study assessed final-year science teacher-trainee perceptions of the impact of the availability and utilization of laboratory facilities on science students' pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in science at Accra and Ada Colleges of Education. This research was motivated by an initial study that stated that the majority of junior high school science teachers were unable to teach science effectively so it was easier for students to understand. This research used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional descriptive survey design involving 62 intern teachers, 15 science tutors, and two school principals. The research instrument (tutor and teacher questionnaire) was declared suitable for use after a slight revision with the Validity and Reliability scores of 0.84 and 0.86. The research revealed that final-year science teacher candidates at the Accra College of Education were of the opinion that the availability and utilization of laboratory facilities had a moderate but neutral impact on PCK in science, in contrast to the results of research by science teachers at Ada College which stated that the availability and use of Laboratory facilities have a high and positive impact on PCK Science. It is recommended that science tutors engage science trainee teachers in efficient hands-on activities, and also focus on on-campus and off-campus practicums to develop the training of PCK science trainee teachers.Keywords: Laboratory Facilities, Science Teacher-Trainees, Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK in Science, Impact of Availability and UtilisationStudi ini menilai persepsi guru-peserta pelatihan sains tahun terakhir tentang dampak ketersediaan dan pemanfaatan fasilitas laboratorium terhadap pengetahuan konten pedagogis siswa sains (PCK) dalam sains di Accra dan Ada Colleges of Education. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh penelitian awal yang menyatakan bahwa sebagian besar guru IPA SMP belum mampu mengajarkan IPA secara efektif sehingga lebih mudah dipahami oleh siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain survei deskriptif cross-sectional yang melibatkan 62 orang guru magang, 15 orang tutor IPA, dan dua orang kepala sekolah. Instrumen penelitian (angket tutor dan guru) dinyatakan layak digunakan setelah dilakukan sedikit revisi dengan skor Validitas dan Reliabilitas sebesar 0,84 dan 0,86. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa calon guru IPA tingkat akhir di Accra College of Education berpendapat bahwa ketersediaan dan pemanfaatan fasilitas laboratorium berdampak sedang namun netral terhadap PCK bidang IPA, berbeda dengan hasil penelitian guru IPA di Ada College yang menyatakan bahwa ketersediaan dan pemanfaatan fasilitas Laboratorium memberikan dampak yang tinggi dan positif terhadap PCK Sains. Disarankan agar tutor sains melibatkan guru peserta pelatihan sains dalam kegiatan praktik langsung yang efisien, dan juga fokus pada praktik di dalam kampus dan di luar kampus untuk mengembangkan pelatihan guru peserta pelatihan sains PCK
Development Of Webtoon-Based Comic Learning Media On Human Respiratory System Topic For Class VIII Middle School
The low learning motivation of junior high school students can be improved through media with lots of colors and pictures. This study aims to develop Webtoon-based comic electronic learning media on the material of the human respiratory system to increase the learning motivation of grade VIII junior high school students that is valid, practical, and effective. Media development uses the ADDIE model strategy. Media validation is based on the assessment of 4 expert validations. The practicality test is based on the opinion of the teacher and student representatives. The effectiveness test was carried out at class VIII SMPN 11 Jember with 32 students. Statistical test ofdata processing using Paired Sample t-test.The results of the research cover the validity test by 4 expert validators with an average percentage of 91.5% with very valid criteria, the practicality test by students has an overall average percentage of 91.4% with a very practical category,and the effectivenesstest with the ARCS questionnaire before and after implementation has consistently increased the average value in 4 aspects, namely the aspect of gaining attention increase of 0.22, Relevance gets 0.23, Confident gets 0.20 and Satisfaction gets 0.14, the difference in the total mean of the ARCS questionnaire is 0.20.Seeing the enthusiasm of students in learning to use comics is very large, it is suggested that electronic comics can be made in other learning materials.Keywords: E-Comic, Webtoon, Human Respiratory System, Learning Motivation, ADDIE; ARCSRendahnya motivasi belajar siswa SMP dapat ditingkatkan melalui media yang diperbanyak warna dan gambarnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran elektronik komik berbasis Webtoonpada materi sistem pernapasan manusia untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa SMP kelas VIII yang valid, praktis dan efektif. Pengembangan media menggunakan strategi model ADDIE. Validasi media didasarkan pada penilaian 4 validasi ahli.Uji kepraktisan didasrkan pada pendapat guru dan perwakilan siswa. Uji efektifitas dilakukan di SMPN 11 Jember kelas VIII dengan 32 siswa.Uji statistic pengolahan data mengunakan Paired Sample t-Test. Hasil dari penelitian melingkupiuji validitas oleh 4 ahlivalidator ahli dengan persentaserata-ratasebesar 91,5% dengan kriteria sangat valid, uji kepraktisan oleh siswa memiliki presentase rerata keseluruhan sebesar 91,4% dengan kategori sangat praktis, dan Uji Efektivitasdengan angket ARCS sebelum dan sesudah penerapan mengalami kenaikan nilai rerata secara berurutan dalam 4 aspeknya adalah aspek Attentionmendapatkan kenaikan 0.22, Relevancemendapatkan 0.23, Confidentmendapatkan 0.20 dan Satisfactionmendapatkan 0.14, selisih total rerata angket ARCS adalah 0.20.Melihat antusiasme siswadalam pembelajaran menggunakan komik sangat besar, maka disarankan agar komik elektronik dapat dibuat pada materi pembelajaran lainnya
Development of Numeracy Literacy Instrument in the Context of Local Wisdom in Pandeglang at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah
Numeracy literacy, as the ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts in everyday life, has been recognized as a crucial competence in this era. In the context of formal education, many students face challenges in developing their numeracy literacy skills, thus necessitating the development of instruments that have the potential to contribute significantly by being contextual and enriching students' numeracy literacy learning experiences. The aim of this research is to produce a development product of a numeracy literacy instrument based on local wisdom in Pandeglang Regency for grade IX students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah, focusing on number patterns, probability, two-dimensional shapes, and algebraic elements. This research falls under the category of development research, referring to Tessmer's formative research model. The subjects up to the final prototype in this research are 38 students from class IX at MTsN 2 Pandeglang. The instruments used for data collection were validation sheets, interview guidelines, and a numeracy literacy test instrument based on local wisdom in Pandeglang Regency. The data analysis method used involved evaluating the suitability, quality, and accuracy of the developed instrument through expert judgment and statistical analysis. The research results indicate that the developed questions have a good level of validity, although they still require improvement based on the suggestions and feedback provided by the validators. Furthermore, in terms of the quality of the developed test, the difficulty index of the four items falls under the moderate category, the item discrimination is acceptable and valid, and the test exhibits high reliability (0.93). Based on these research results, it can be concluded that the developed numeracy literacy instrument based on local wisdom in Pandeglang Regency is suitable for use.Keywords: Assesment Instrument , Local Wisdom, Mathematics Education, Numeracy LiteracyLiterasi numerasi sebagai kemampuan memahami dan menggunakan konsep matematika dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, telah diakui sebagai salah satu kompetensi penting dalam era ini. Dalam konteks pendidikan formal, banyak siswa menghadapi tantangan dalam mengembangkan kemampuan literasi numerasinya, sehingga diperlukan adanya pengembangan instrumen yang berpotensi memberikan kontribusi penting yang kontekstual dan memperkaya pengalaman belajar literasi numerasi siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan produk pengembangan instrumen literasi numerasi berbasis kearifan lokal di Kabupaten Pandeglang bagi siswa kelas IX MTs dengan elemen materi pola bilangan, peluang, bangun ruang sisi datar dan aljabar. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam kategori penelitian pengembangan yang mengacu pada model penelitian formatif Tessmer. Subjek hingga di prototipe akhir pada penelitian ini adalah 38 orang siswa kelas IX di MTsN 2 Pandeglang. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan data adalah lembar validasi, pedoman wawancara dan soal tes instrumen literasi numerasi berbasis kearifan lokal Kabupaten Pandeglang. Metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah dengan mengevaluasi kesesuaian, kualitas dan akurasi instrumen yang dikembangkan melalui ahli dan analisis statistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahwa pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang dikembangkan memiliki tingkat validitas yang baik, meskipun masih memerlukan perbaikan berdasarkan saran dan umpan balik yang diberikan oleh validator, selanjutnya untuk kualitas tes yang dikembangkan diantaranya indeks kesukaran keempat soal berada pada kategori sedang, daya pembeda soal dapat diterima dengan baik dan valid serta memiliki realibilitas yang tinggi (0,93). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, maka dapat disimpulkan instrumen literasi numerasi berbasis kearifan lokal di Kabupaten Pandeglang yang dikembangkan sudah layak untuk digunakan.
Efforts to Improve Critical Thinking Skills with Scientific and Gender-Based Liveworksheets
Critical thinking is one of the skills that must be possessed by 21st century students. One of the efforts developed by the Indonesian government is to mandate teachers to use a scientific approach in the learning process. In line with the development of information and communication technology in the world, it is recommended that the implementation of learning be implemented using a hybrid learning method. The purpose of this study is to describe the effectiveness ofscientific liveworksheets and gender in honing students' critical thinking skills. There were 59 students who were used as samples and consisted of 25 students and 34 students with the topic of learning the interaction of living things with their environment. The pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design was used to support the quasi-experimental research method. Data were collected by means of critical thinking skills tests, questionnaires on the implementation of the learning stages, and response questionnaires. All data were then analyzed by ANCOVA test. The results show that the scientific live worksheet causes a significant improvement in students' critical thinking skills. Another finding is that there is no difference in the achievement ofcritical thinking skills in male and female students. The students are facilitated in a balanced way by following the stages of learning in the scientific liveworksheet through their respective devices. Based on these findings, it is suggested that the use of scientific liveworksheets be encouraged to develop the critical thinking skills of male and female students in the industrial era 4.0.Keywords: liveworksheet scientific, critical thinking, genderBerpikir kritis adalah salah satu kemampuan yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa abad 21. Salah satu usaha yang dikembangkan oleh pemerintah Indonesia adalah mengamanatkan para guru untuk menggunakan pendekatan saintifik dalam proses pembelajaran. Selaras denganperkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi di dunia, penyelenggaraan pembelajaran disarankan untuk menggunakan metode hybrid learning. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menggambarkan efektifitas liveworksheet saintifik dan gender dalam mengasah kemampuan berpikir kritis siswapada topik perubahan lingkungan. Terdapat 59 siswa yang dijadikan sebagai sampel dan terdiri atas 25 siswa dan 34 siswi dengan topik pembelajaran interaksi makhluk hidup dengan lingkungannya. Desain pretest-postest non equivalent control groupdigunakan untuk menunjang metode kuasi eksperimen penelitian. Data dikumpulkan dengan tes keterampilan berpikir kritis, angket keterlaksanaan tahapan pembelajaran, dan angket tanggapan. Seluruh data kemudian dianalisis dengan uji ANCOVA. Hasilnyamenunjukkan bahwa liveworksheet saintifik menyebabkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Temuan lainnya yaitu tidak terdapat perbedaan pada pencapaian keterampilan berpikir kritis pada siswa laki-laki dan perempuan. Para siswa terfasilitasi secara seimbang dengan mengikuti tahapan-tahapan pembelajaran di dalam liveworksheetsaintifik melalui gawainya masing-masing. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, disarankan agar penggunaan liveworksheetsaintifik digalakkan untuk mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa laki-laki dan perempuan di era industri 4.0
Effectiveness of the IDEAL Problem Solving Model Based onOpen-Ended Questions onthe Creative Thinking Skills of Grade VII Students
AbstractThe ability to think creatively plays important role in students’self development in the 21st century. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the IDEAL Problem Solving learning model based on open-ended questions on students' creative thinking abilities. This study is a quantitative quasi-experimental study with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The subjects of this research were class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Kartasura which consisted of 64 students. Clusters random sampling was used as the sampling method. Data collection was carried out using test techniques in the form of pretest and posttest as well as non-test techniques in the form of observation and documentation. Analysis of the research data was carried out by normality test, homogeneity test, independent sample t-test and n-Gain test with the help of SPSS 23. The hypothesis test with the independent sample t-test showed the number 0.000, which means H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, meaning that the IDEAL Problem Solving learning model is effective increasing student’s creative thinking. The n-gain test in the experimental class was 0,56 (effective enough), while in the control class the n-gain percentage was 0,08 (ineffective) where the experimental class used the IDEAL Problem Solving model so that it can be concluded that the IDEAL Problem Solving Model quite effective in improving the creative thinking skills of class VII students at SMP Negeri 3 Kartasura in the subject matter of Science Objects and Its Observations.Keywords: Learning Model, IDEAL Problem Solving, Creative ThinkingKemampuan berpikir kreatif berperan penting dalam pengembangan diri siswa pada abaf 21. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif kuasi eksperimen dengan rancangan pretest-posttest control group design. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 3 Kartasura yang teridiri dari 64 siswa. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan menggunakan cluster random sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik tes berupa pre-test dan post-test dan teknik non-test berupa observasi dan dokumentasi. Uji n-gain kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,56 (cukup efektif), sedangkan kelas kontrol persentase n-gain sebesar 0,08 (tidak efektif) dimana kelas eksperimen menggunakan model IDEAL Problem Solving sehingga memberikan keismpulan bahwa Model IDEAL Problem Solving cukup efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa kelas VII di SMP Negeri 3 Kartasura pada materi Objek IPA dan Pengamatannya
Construct the Validity of STEM and Project-based Critical Thinking Skills Test Instruments Using the Rasch Model
Students' critical thinking skills are very important abilities in the 21st century. To measure critical thinking skills, a valid and reliable instrument is needed. This article uses the Rasch model to construct an instrument for critical thinking skills on number pattern material whose learning uses STEM PjBL. The development method uses the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) stages. Data processing uses the Rasch model assisted by the Winstep program. The instrument was tested on 33 public junior high school students in Semarang. The research results include validity, namely the validity test by experts with an average percentage of 92.4% in the very valid category, the quality of the questions in the instrument reliability aspect is good, and the average critical thinking ability of students who use STEM-based and Project Based instruments Learning was 61.46, higher than other classes at 49.79. The critical thinking test instrument is based on STEM and the project needs to be further developed on other materials.Keywords: Construct Validity, Critical Thinking Skill, Rasch ModelKemampuan berpikir kritis siswa merupakan kemampuan yang sangat penting di abad 21 ini. Untuk mengukur kemampuan berpikir kritis diperlukan instrumen yang valid dan reliabel. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan instrument tes kemampuan berpikir kritis yang berbasis STEM dan proyek. Soal terdiri dari 15 item materi aritmatika sosial yang memuat indikator Focus, Reason, Inferent, Situation, Clarity dan Overview. Metode pengembangan menggunakan tahapan analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation(ADDIE).Pengolahan data menggunakan model Raschberbantuan program Winstep. Instrumen diujicobakan pada 33 siswa SMP Negeri diSemarang. Hasil penelitian mencakup valid yaitu pada uji validitas oleh ahli dengan rata-rata persentase sebesar 92,4 % dalam kategori sangat valid, kualitas butir soal pada aspek reliabilitas instrumen baik, dan rata-rata kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang menggunakan instrument berbasis STEM danproyeksebesar 61,46 lebih tinggi dari kelas lain sebesar 49,79. The Using Natural Phenomenon Video In The Science Learning On Junior High School Student’s Scientific Creativity
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengkaji pengaruh dan peningkatan pemanfaatan video fenomena alam terhadap kreativitas ilmiah siswa. Penelitian eksperimen ini menggunakan desain penelitian eksperimen quasi dengan rancangan nonequivalent control-group design. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes kreativitas ilmiah yang hasilnya dianalisis menggunakan uji N-Gain dan independent sample t-test. Berdasarkan hasil uji N-Gain, diperoleh peningkatan kreativitas ilmiah pada kelas eksperimen dalam kategori sedang dan pada kelas kontrol dalam kategori rendah. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan perbedaan nilai yang signifikan antara kelas control dan eksperimen. Kesimpulan yang dapat diambil bahwa pemanfaatan video fenomena alam dalam pembelajaran IPA materi lapisan bumi dapat meningkatkan kreativitas ilmiah siswa dalam kategori sedang serta berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kreativitas ilmiah siswa MTsAbstract The purpose of this study was to examine the effect and increase in the use of videos of natural phenomena on students' scientific innovation. This experimental study used a quasi-experimental research design with a nonequivalent control-group design. The research instrument was a scientific creativity test, the results of which were analyzed using the N-Gain test and independent sample t-test. Based on the results of the N-Gain test, there was an increase in scientific creativity in the experimental class in the medium category and in the control class in the low category. The results of the hypothesis test showed a significant difference in values between the control and experimental classes. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the use of videos of natural phenomena in natural science learning for earth layer material can increase students' scientific creativity in the medium category, which has a significant effect on scientific innovation of junior high school students
Critical Thinking of Prospective Teachers In Solving Math Problems In Terms of Learning Styles
This study aims to identify how the process of critical thinking of prospective teachers in solving mathematical problems in the Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Science and Technology, Walisongo State Islamic University, is viewed from a qualitative learning style. The purposive sampling method was used to determine six prospective teachers as research subjects. Each visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning style is represented by 2 subjects. The auxiliary instruments in this study consisted of a learning style questionnaire, a critical thinking ability test, and an interview guide. Critical thinking indicators were developed through consideration of the main elements of FRISCO, the level of cognitive thinking according to Bloom and the Steps of Problem Solving According to John Dewey. Data processing through the stages of data collection, data reduction, and data verification with the triangulation method. The results of the study show that auditory and kinesthetic learning styles have lower critical thinking process characteristics than visual learning styles in solving math problems. From the interview process it was revealed that the ability to argue based on valid and logical facts, all types of learning styles is still quite low. However, all three have strong potential to develop critical thinking skills through stimulation from educators
Analysis of Students’ Mathematical Reasoning Abilities in Solving Linear Equation in Two Variables on Android Game Called Ganjaran
Game Penjelajah Ruang (The Space Exploration Game, Ganjaran) is a learning media in the form of an Android-based educational game to practice the mathematical reasoning skills of class VIII students on SPLDV questions. The purpose of this study was to describe students' mathematical reasoning abilities in solving SPLDV questions on Android-based of Ganjaran. The students' mathematical reasoning ability can be seen from the results of working on the SPLDV questions by students which are made based on mathematical reasoning indicators. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Krian as many as 4 students who had played the Ganjaran. The test instrument used in this study was a 5-point SPLDV reasoning question with short answers. From the results of the study, the average value of students' mathematical reasoning abilities was 56.25 which was quite sufficient. Overall, the indicator of mathematical reasoning ability that is mostly mastered by students is indicator c (drawing conclusions, compiling evidence, providing reasons or evidence for the correctness of the solution), while the indicator of student mathematical reasoning that is less mastered by students is indicator a (proposing conjectures)
Development Mathematics Realistic Education Worksheet Based on Ethnomathematics in Elementary School
Learning mathematics at the elementary school level is an interesting to research. This is due to the mathematical material that requires children to reason mathematically. Many learning models are introduced to students, but are not in accordance with the surrounding cultural conditions. Culture is something that is close and real in students' lives. The purpose of this research is to see the effectiveness of ethnomathematics-based realistic mathematics learning in elementary school. Realistic mathematics learning model based on ethnomathematics in elementary schools can be implemented with the help of worksheets that contain guided reinvention and didactical phenomenology and self-developed models with ethnomathematical-based materials in the form of batik typical of Pekalongan. This research is a research and development research which includes a define, design, development, and dissemination. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation methods. The data analysis technique was carried out with the Independent t-test to determine the effectiveness of the learning model. The results of this study indicate that 1) LKS is feasible to use as a source of practical, valid, and effective mathematics learning tools, 2) ethnomathematics-based realistic mathematics learning is effective viewed from student learning outcomes in elementary school
