Kutai National Park (KNP) is a national park that is bordered by a coal mining company, PT. Kaltim Prima Coal (PT. KPC).  Located between the park and the company are communities living in the Kabo Jaya Hamlet of Swarga Bara Village and G III Hamlet of Singa Gembara Village who were economically dependent on this company.  A main concern prior to the post-mining period in 2021 is the lost of source of livelihood which could trigger the exploitation of the national park.  Therefore, with the natural resources available in P revab-Mentoko KNP, Tanjung Bara Beach, and Tanjung Bara Mangrove, as alternative sources of livelihood, the idea of utilizing these resources for ecotourism purposes arose to prepare the community for PT. KPC’s post-mining period. The research aims to study the social capital of ecotourism development in the KNP buffer zone. Data were collected using several methods including field observation, participative observation, in depth interview, and literature study. The research used several methods of analysis including Social Capital Assesment Tools (SCAT) to assess the community’s social capitals, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to assess the relationships between social capital variables, and descriptive analysis to evaluate each stakeholder’s ecotourism development policies.  Social capital adequacy value for Kabo Jaya Hamlet of Swarga Bara Village was 173 (sufficient) and that of G III Hamlet of Singa Gembara Village was 159 (insufficient). Ecotourism development was less difficult in Kabo Jaya Hamlet based on its existing social capital with the Kabo Jaya Ecotourism Group. Every element of social capital in G III Hamlet significantly affect the social capital, and the most significant element is care for others and the environment. Keywords:  Community, ecotourism, G III Hamlet, Kabo Jaya Hamlet, Social Capital

Indonesia has established 50 national parks as part of its protectedarea. Considerations ofthe establishment of national parks by the government were based on the conditions of native ecosystems and biodiversity conservation targets. Consideration was also as sociated with the development of recommendations made in the IUCN\u27s World Park Congresses. It is a fact that some national parks were occupying some indigenous lands, such as Wasur National Park which occupied indigenous territories of Kanum, Marind-Kondo, Marori Men-gey and Yeinan Ethnics. These indigenous peoples have established natural resource management systems that were intimately associated with their traditions and beliefs. Discrepancy between government policies on conservation are as with the pattern of arrangement on indigenous peoples as owners of the area led to the emergence of conflict and marginalization of indigenous peoples’ rights. Realizing the error in the perspective of conservation area management related to indigenous peoples, in the 5th World Park Congress in Durban, South Africa in 200, a recommendation  was agreed on the importance of collaboration in the equality and mutual benefit between parks’ managers with indigenous peoples, and positioning indigenous peoples\u27 rightsasan important part in conservation area management system today and the future. This study aimed to reveal the potential of big mammals as komodo’s preys in Rinca Island, Komodo National Park. Population density, sex ratio, age structure and distribution of the komodo’s preys were collected using line transect method, and the vegetation were analyzed using line square method. A total of five species of big mammals were recorded as preys of komodo on the island, and among them were Timor deer and water buffalo which were the most important food sources for komodo. Long tailed macaque, wild horse, and wild boar were the alternative food sources for komodo. Komodo ate whenever there was the opportunity, and it usually attack animals in the savanna or water sources, since these areas were important for big mammals.  Keywords: komodo, preys, mammals, population, savanna

Almost all Indonesia’s national parks (NP) faced the challenge of managing their finances. One innovative way of raising additional funds was the rate of incoming visitors. Determination of entrance fee for national park was currently based on regional allocation of market system not on conditions and potentials of the respective national parks. Fees for incoming visitors were uniform for all national parks within a single regional allocation market. Such uniformity had resulted in relatively low fees for some NP and relatively high for others. As a price, visitors entrance fee required to be assessed not only from the user side but also from the manager’s, especially in national parks with high potential number of visitors, such as Gunung Merapi (GMNP) with 165,851 visitors annually. The objectives of this study were to (1) identify the factors that affect the amount of entrance fee, (2) determine entrance fee based on GMNP annual management expenses using main cost approach, (3) determine entrance fee based on visitors using travel cost method and (4) determine entrance fee based on annual expenses for GMNP management and visitors. Results of the analysis showed that factors affecting GMNP entrance fee were: (1) based on annual management expenses were operational cost and total number of visitors, (2) based on visitors were travel cost, tourism attractions and total number of visitors per group, and (3) based on annual GMNP management expenses and visitors, were travel cost, tourism attractions, number of visitors per group, operational cost and total number of visitors. Keywords : eexpense, entrance fee, scenario, visitors

Orangutan is an endemic wild animal of Sumatra and Kalimantan (Borneo) Island. The population of Borneo orangutan decrease and become endangered caused by high damage of its habitat and illegal hunting. The conservation efforts needs to be done to maintain the population. One of this effort is release of ex-captive orangutan. One of the factors of the success of release is orangutan activity and post release management. The objective of this research was to analyze post-release management and daily activity of orangutan. Data collection of management was obtained through direct observation and interview to manager of release and veterinary. While data collection of orangutan activity through observation using focal-animal sampling method. The orangutan post-release management conducted by orangutan monitoring, supply additional feed in feeding site area, monitoring of reintoduction habitat, and medical examination of orangutan. The daily activity of ex-captive orangutan showed that rest activity had significantly different in adult and adolescent’s age class. The adults has duration of rest activity longer than the adolescents. Keywords: activity, orangutan, post-releas

Javan gibbon is endemic and endangered primate of Java. The research aims to map home ranges and territories of three habituated javan gibbons (Goup A, B and S) in Gunung Halimun-Salak National Park from March to July 2015. This finding will support the conservation management for javan gibbon. The mapping of those areas was determined by following the groups for 541 hours and analyzed the data using minimum convex polygon. The home range average of the three groups was 33,41 ha (Group A = 23,7 ha; B = 43,8 ha; and S = 32,7 ha). The largest home range had the lowest food tree densities (50 ind/ha). The average of territory was 0,57 ha (Group A = 0,4 ha; B = 0,8 ha; and S = 0,4 ha). The territory areas had food tree densities in higher (116,7 ind/ha) compare to the home ranges (76,7 ind/ha). The large territory area had low food tree densities (90 ind/ha), otherwise the small territory area had high food densities (Group A 160 ind/ha; Group S 110 ind/ha).Keywords: habitat, home range, javan gibbon, territor
