Ontological study of problems in designing social science learning based on a Merdeka curriculum: A pilot study of social studies teachers in Malang city

    Get PDF
The change in the curriculum to the Merdeka Curriculum also changed the educational paradigm in Indonesia. Curriculum changes bring changes to the content of social studies learning, especially at the junior high school level, thus creating problems for teachers in designing social studies learning. This research aims to determine teachers' problems in designing learning from the perspective of ontological studies (learning content) due to curriculum changes. For this reason, a qualitative approach was used with a pilot study design to examine this matter. Data collection was carried out through document review and interviews. Meanwhile, data analysis is carried out using an interactive model. The results of this research indicate that changes in the curriculum have caused a lack of synchronization between content standards and expected achievements in social studies learning. This has implications for teachers' problems determining learning material at each grade level. Teachers also need clarification on the suitability of the learning content and what is expected from the curriculum. Not only that, but planning differentiated learning is also one of the problems in designing social studies learning materials. This research's limitation is that it is a pilot study and discusses a narrow scope, namely an ontological study. In future research, it is hoped that more in-depth research can be carried out on teacher problems from an epistemological and axiological perspective. So, the entire teacher's problems in designing social studies learning can be described

    Get PDF
The current learning model emphasizes student involvement, which aims to enable them to participate actively in implementing learning. Collaboration skills are considered one of the critical abilities of the 21st century. These skills are considered to encourage active student participation both in the classroom and in group projects. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the project-based learning model in improving students' collaboration skills. The research methodology used is quantitative, using a quasi-experimental type. The sample used in this research consisted of 58 students, 29 students in class IX A and 29 in class IX E at MTs Negeri 2 Malang City. The data collection technique uses a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire, while the data analysis technique uses the independent sample t-test. The research results show that applying the project-based learning model significantly influences students' collaborative skills. Implementing a project-based learning model fosters greater student involvement in communication and greater responsibility for the tasks or problems given. The limitations of this research lie in the research respondents. Research respondents were less responsive when filling out the research sample determination questionnaire. This research suggests that the project-based learning model can be an alternative learning model to improve students' collaborative skills. Additionally, further studies might investigate project-based learning models while considering additional characteristics relevant to the 21st century

Culture-based education in sociology learning significantly impacts students' understanding of social diversity. Integrating cultural values in the curriculum raises students' awareness of the diversity of society, broadening their view of social reality. This research explores how a culture-based approach in sociology education can enhance students' understanding and attitudes toward social diversity and tolerance. This research used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) was used as the established procedure. The study found that implementing Culture-Based Education in sociology learning significantly impacts students' understanding of social diversity. Although there are challenges in implementing the Culture-Based Education approach, they can be overcome through holistic efforts. The impact of Culture-Based Education on the development of students' social, critical, and analytical skills is very positive. The expansion of social skills through cross-cultural interactions, the improvement of critical thinking skills, the development of social analytical skills, the linking of sociological concepts with social contexts, and the formation of critical and tolerant attitudes are all aspects that enrich students' learning experiences. This research emphasizes the importance of integrating cultural values into the curriculum to enhance students' understanding of social diversity and their ability to navigate multicultural environments. It calls on educational institutions to adopt and improve culture-based approaches. Additionally, it highlights the need to address implementation challenges and to continuously evaluate and adapt practices to foster the development of socially aware and culturally competent students

This research aims to develop Virtual Field Trip (VFT) learning media to increase students' learning motivation regarding natural resource use in 8th grade. This media was developed using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The development of 360-degree panoramic image-based VFT media is expected to overcome the limitations of conventional learning. The study was conducted on 32 8th-grade students at SMPN 7 Malang using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The analysis showed a significant increase in students' learning motivation, with the average pretest score increasing from 59 to 80.2 in the posttest. The t-test showed a significant value of 0.000, meaning that VFT media significantly affects learning motivation. These media have been proven to grab students' attention, facilitate understanding of the material, and provide a contextualized learning experience. Although there are barriers, such as the need for Internet connectivity and devices, the results of this study underscore the importance of innovation in learning media to increase student engagement

    Get PDF
This study addresses the low levels of 4C skills (critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration) among students, which adversely affects their thinking processes and soft skills, failing to meet 21st-century educational competency standards. Effective interventions are needed to enhance these skills so that students can thrive in a complex global environment. This research evaluates the effectiveness of the RADEC model (read, answer, discuss, explain, create) when integrated with Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) to improve 4C skills in students. The RADEC model incorporates activities relevant to students' cultural backgrounds, such as reading materials using tradition content, answering questions, collaborating in discussions, and creating products. The study conducted in class VIII-E of SMP Negeri 3 Surabaya using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method over two cycles, found a significant increase in 4C skills. The average score rose from 58.86 (fair category) in the first cycle to 78.08 (good category) in the second cycle. Success factors include providing infographic reading materials containing local tradition content that aligns with the student's cultural background, forming class agreements to strengthen learning dynamics, and increasing student involvement in each stage of the RADEC model. Thus, the RADEC model integrated with the CRT approach proved effective in improving 4C students, thereby supporting the achievement of 21st-century educational competencies
