Connecting in the Dirac Equation the Clifford Algebra of Lorentz Invariance with the Lie Algebra of SU(N) Gauge Symmetry
In this paper, we study possible mathematical connections of the Clifford algebra with the su(N)-Lie algebra, or in more physical terms the links between space-time symmetry (Lorentz invariance) and internal SU(N) gauge-symmetry for a massive spin one-half fermion described by the Dirac equation. The related matrix algebra is worked out in particular for the SU(2) symmetry and outlined as well for the color gauge group SU(3). Possible perspectives of this approach to unification of symmetries are briefly discussed. The calculations make extensive use of tensor multiplication of the matrices involved, whereby our focus is on revisiting the Coleman–Mandula theorem. This permits us to construct unified symmetries between Lorentz invariance and gauge symmetry in a direct product sense

Um die ökologische Nachhaltigkeit von „Advanced Materials“ (AdMs) in innovativen Solarzelltechnologien (Emerging Photovoltaics, EPVs) abschätzen zu können, ist die Betrachtung des gesamten Lebenszyklus notwendig. LebenszyklusAnalysen (Life Cycle Analysis,LCAs) können jene Materialien in einem Produkt identifizieren, die in Relation zu anderen eingesetzten Materialien am meisten zu Umweltbelastungen durch das Gesamtprodukt beitragen. Dies bietet die Möglichkeit, das Produkt im Sinne der Nachhaltigkeit zu optimieren. Bislang durchgeführte LCAs von EPVs sind aufgrund der unterschiedlichen Annahmen und Systemgrenzen kaum vergleichbar und haben Limitierungen, insbesondere aufgrund fehlender Daten. Generell zeigt sich jedoch, dass EPVs verglichen mit konventionellen PVTechnologien einen niedrigeren Energiebedarf und eine kürzere Energierücklaufzeit aufgrund der einfacheren Herstellungsmethoden und des geringeren Materialeinsatzes haben können. Die eingesetzten AdMs weisen in LCAs, etwa im Vergleich mit Solarglas, den für die Elektroden verwendeten (Edel)metallen oder „kritischen Rohstoffen“, nur geringe Umweltauswirkungen auf, vorrangig, weil sie in verhältnismäßig geringen Mengen eingesetzt werden. EPVs haben noch keine Marktreife erlangt, daher wurden bislang noch keine entsprechenden Recyclingtechnologien entwickelt. Die Verbundmaterialien aufzutrennen, stellt eine große Herausforderung beim Recycling dar. Idealerweise sollte bereits beim Design nicht nur die Umweltverträglichkeit („Safe by Design“), sondern auch die Recyclingfähigkeit („Design for Recycling“) berücksichtigt werden und auch darauf geachtet werden, einen geeigneten Kompromiss zwischen höchstem Wirkungsgrad, bester Stabilität, Wirtschaftlichkeit und Nachhaltigkeit zu finden („Sustainability by Design“)

Energy from Biomass: Assessing Sustainability by Geoinformation Technology. GI_Forum|GI_Forum 2021, Volume 1|
Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 7.2 requests a substantial increase in the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix by 2030. Renewable energy production in all sectors has to be evaluated for its contribution to reach this target. Biomass for energy production has gained a bad reputation over the past years due to the “food versus fuel” debate or reported unsustainable practices. The BIOPLAT-EU project is employing geoinformation technologies combined with sustainability and economic expertise to more accurately evaluate the sustainability of bioenergy value chains. The project has three main parts: first, the generation of a pan-European map of marginal, underutilized, and contaminated (MUC) lands potentially usable for bioenergy production. This is realized by employing remote sensing time series, existing Copernicus, and other spatial data sets. Second, the generation of a web-based geographical information system (GIS) connecting the MUC lands with other important information sources necessary to assess sustainability. Thisrd, the sustainability assessment includes not only typical social and environmental sustainability indicators like soil, water, or greenhouse gas emissions, but also economic sustainability indicators like employment. Current financial barriers are addressed by integrating innovative financing solutions considering SDG target 12.A
The Pleasures of Virtue and the Virtues of Pleasure: The Classicizing Garden in Eleventh- and Twelfth-Century China and Byzantium. Medieval Worlds|Movement and Mobility & Ideologies of Translation, III - Volume 13. 2021 medieval worlds Volume 13. 2021|
During the eleventh and twelfth centuries in Byzantium and China, the garden as a site of pleasure was an important literary theme among literati. Although pleasure had long been associated with gardens prior to this period, its simultaneous resurgence in both cultures was specifically linked to new ways of engaging with the classical tradition. This paper explores the nature and significance of the discourse of pleasure in the imagination of gardens in these two culturally distinct, but historically resonant, imperial societies. Noting important parallels and divergences in the literature surrounding pleasurable gardens in the two traditions, it argues that the garden as a site of pleasure was more than a document of the carefree pleasures of communing with nature. Instead, it was a declaration among literati – constrained by their place in a vast imperial bureaucratic system – of their agency, their integrity and, above all, their virtue. Far from being just a psychological or affective state, the pleasures they documented were a testimony of their freedom and moral authority in the face of a vast political order upon which they depended, but that also required their participation and validation as the bearers of the authoritative classical tradition that sustained the very imperial project. As a site charged with references and allusions to the ancient past and its authoritative voices, the garden provided an optimal arena in which those literati retreating from the front lines of official duty could fashion the conditions of their own pleasure, and thereby display their virtue, assert their autonomy and bring to fulfillment their human potentiality

The Impasto Pottery of Punta di Zambrone (Vibo Valentia, Calabria): Production, Use, Function and Exchanges within the South-Italian Recent Bronze Age Scenario. Orea|Punta di Zambrone I Oriental and European Archaeology Volume 17|
The impasto pottery found in the Recent Bronze Age levels of Punta di Zambrone (Vibo Valentia) is investigated by combining macroscopic and petrographic analyses. Structural remains of clay architecture, baking plates, cooking stands and pottery wasters are considered for comparison and as local reference material. This integrated approach allows for a wide perspective embracing various steps of the chaîne opératoire. Clear differences in the supply, paste preparation, finishing and firing procedures have been recognised between open and closed shapes, due to functional aspects and distinct manufacturing traditions.
