The Contribution of Social Identity to Conformity in Korean Pop Fans

Riots in a certain group have become widespread today, and the activities of many irresponsible people acting on behalf of various groups have resulted in an unfavorable perception of that group among the general public. This is true for K-Pop fans, who regularly experience negative stigma as a result of irresponsible behavior. As a result, many K-Pop fans attempt to define themselves and their groups as social groups that are not like what the majority of people imagine, both stigmatizing and seeing them in a negative way. The goal of this research is to explore how social identity influences compliance among K-Pop enthusiasts. This study employed a quantitative research strategy, collecting data through questionnaires with two measuring instruments: the social identification scale and the conformity scale. The population under investigation includes individuals and social groupings, with a particular focus on K-Pop fans residing in DKI Jakarta. The samples used in this study comprised both individual K-Pop fans and non-fans; there were 82 respondents in total: 40 non-fans and 42 K-Pop aficionados. The research being conducted seeks to discover whether, as direct K-Pop enthusiasts believe, social identity plays a role in conforming to the fandom, as well as the perspectives and thoughts of non-K-Pop fans. A simple regression analysis was used for this study's data analysis. The results of the study show that social identity influences compliance by 56.3%

While most of the people of Inner Baduy (locally known as Baduy Dalam) in Cibeo still strongly clings into these ancient laws, the youths of said village have started to use technologies in their daily lives, most often to communicate with guests who planned to visit their village. The researchers of this journal tried to study this change that occurs in Cibeo’s youths, specifically about their stance on Pikukuh Karuhun as a local culture that functions to philosophically guide Baduy people on their daily lives. This study was done with ethnomethodology method which is a part qualitative method and constructive paradigm. The results of this research describe the inconsistencies in the practice of Pikukuh Karuhun by Cibeo’s youths that mostly works as local guides and porters in weekends and holidays. They use social media like WhatsApp to communicate with would-be guests before and after their arrival. Their aptitude in using such apps come from their interaction with outlanders that come to visit Cibeo. In-between their interaction with outside visitors, they autodidactly learn to operate phones and social medias as much as they could. Interestingly, researchers found that while they use technology in the form of mobile phones (something that is forbidden by their ancient laws), they only do so outside their village. They never bring their phones into the village but instead they leave it at the hand of their relatives and friends outside Cibeo

Bibliometric analysis can provide extensive data mapping of previous research topic trends to formulate subsequent research topics. There is still a lack of bibliometric analysis of trends in sociology of communication research topics. The study used bibliometric analysis of 37,999 publications in ScienceDirect over three periods. Publication data was selected using the keyword "sociology of communication." Data processing was conducted  by  co-occurrence between keywords and data presentation with overlay visualization. The results of data processing with VosViewer revealed shifts in research topics over three periods.  Topics that emerged after 2022 are related to Covid-19 pandemic, such as healthcare, resilience, stress, and vaccine hesitancy; methodologies like systematic literature review; recent technologies such as artificial intelligence; and other societal concerns, including sustainability. That topic was suggested for future research. However, sustainability and systematic literature review are old issues in other research fields. The research found that the sociology of communication research topics is changing dynamically and is influenced by social phenomena such as pandemics and technological advancements. The presence of two recent topics that have become old issues in other fields of social research shows the challenge for communication scientists to respond responsively to global social and methodological issues

The government always strives to improve tax compliance to achieve the target of  state  revenues. In practice, the government has initiated the use of  social media as a communication medium to disseminate information, education, and interaction to the broader citizens. This study aims to determine the role of social media in improving  individual tax compliance using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) approach. The data collection technique was carried out using an online survey method with a questionnaire instrument. The data analysis was conducted using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) Model to test the relationship between variables in a model. The study results show that the attitude variable on taxpayers intention has a p-value = 0.064 > 0.05 with a coefficient of -15.7%. In line with the attitude variable, the subjective norms variable has a p-value = 0.670>0.05 with a coefficient of 3.1%. On the other hand, the perceived behavioral control has a coefficient of 20.1% (with p-value <0.05), the tax moral obligation variable has a p-value = 0.000 < 0.05 with beta = 28.7%, and the use of social media also has p-value < 0.05, with a coefficient of 39.4%. The use of social media positively and significantly influences the individual taxpayers’ intention to behave in tax compliance. Adding social media variables to the study also broadens the implementation of TPB theory from a communication studies perspective, and gives recommendations to  the government to improve the quality of information content appropriately through social media

Message Reception Analysis in Intercultural Communication during "Magnetic Resonance Imaging" Training in Hospitals

The utilization of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines is essential for accurate disease diagnoses, necessitating radiographers to undergo a ten-day training regimen. While existing studies often concentrate on interpersonal communication in healthcare, this research explores the reciprocal development of reflexive action and interpretation during MRI training in Indonesian hospitals, employing the Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) Theory and integrating intercultural communication obstacles. Employing participatory observation, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions, the study unveils that trainers employ both verbal and non-verbal communication, including orientation, empathy, and dynamic interactions. The results highlight reciprocal, proactive communication strategies between trainers and trainees, emphasizing mindfulness, emotional vulnerability mitigation, honest communication, and the cultivation of functional behaviors. This research contributes not only to health communication literature, particularly MRI training but also advances practical insights into intercultural communication research

The dissemination of information or publications with clear messaging and appropriate media selection is crucial. This research evaluates the dissemination of information or publications and the choice of communication media by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy through their Instagram account @kemenparekraf.id, to ascertain its accessibility and comprehensibility across all sectors of society. To address this issue, the researcher employed the evaluative audit method using content analysis and readability study design. The selected audit method was Taylor's cloze test procedure.  Data collection involved distributing questionnaires based on the selected publication texts or captions related to the “Bangga Berwisata di Indonesia” (BBWI) with the hashtag #DiIndonesiaAja. Research respondents included both followers and non-followers of @kemenparekraf.id on Instagram, selected through accidental sampling technique, amounting to a sample size of 100 respondents. This study found that the average readability score for the first caption was 35%, indicating the text was difficult to understand, while the second caption scored 50%, indicating moderate to understand. These findings suggest that readability levels remain low and need improvement. Efforts are necessary from the communication bureau or content creators to prioritize audience diversity, choose language that is easily understandable by all societal segments, add content aligned with the promoted programs, enhance creativity in content posts, and begin fostering two-way communication to their audience
