Network Society and Social Movement: Message Reception among Instagram Users
In the dynamics of a state, any change can happen through a social movement as an initial stage. Studies about it have been conducted since the 1940s. Nowadays, as the shift of the era involves communication technology, the model of the social movement has changed as well. Collectivity dominated the social movement in the past, but connectivity is more prominent nowadays as the network society era emerges. The purpose of this research is to explore the social movement in the network society era through an Instagram account, @ketimbang.ngemis.yogyakarta along with the message reception among the Instagram users. Using Stuart Hall’s theory of message reception, this study employed snowball as the technique sampling. After analyzing five posts on @ketimbang.ngemis.yogyakarta Instagram account and having an interview with eight informants, there were two conclusions. It is found that there is a shift in the model of social movement. In the past, social movements were dominated by demonstrations, in which a group of people gathered in a particular place, and relied on oratory skills. Meanwhile, at present, many social movements have made use of social media, one of which is Instagram. The photos in Instagram are used to show marginalized groups which can attract sympathy, empathy, and attention of social media users as an initial stage to the social movement. Moreover, the social media users tend to be a negotiated code type in the reception of social movement message

Communication Strategies in the 2020 Local Election Stages Socialization During the Covid-19 Pandemic
Indonesia has decided to hold simultaneous local elections on December 9, 2020, even though the country and the rest of the world still face the COVID-19 pandemic. The local election stages have begun in June 2020 by forming a unit to update data of voters and socialize how to hold the elections during the pandemic. This paper aims to build communication strategies in socializing how to hold the elections during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results were obtained using the survey method involving 440 respondents in Denpasar in September 2020. The communication strategy is a combination of offline and online mediums. Despite a policy to stay at home, data shows that residents of Denpasar still needed offline mediums such as billboards and banners. In addition, they also searched for information about the election through printed advertisements and television advertisements. To ensure the smooth socialization of election process, the General Election Commission (KPU) in Denpasar uses accounts in social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook in collaboration with parties that have a large number of followers or mass media that have accounts in social media with a large number of followers. However, almost all respondents do not follow the official account of KPU Denpasar. Uniquely, in Denpasar, some potential voters still rely on community leaders and figures in searching for information about the local election. To that end, to build communication strategies, these community leaders and figures should be involved. Data also show that online meeting like zoom, google meet, or Webex meeting is not sufficient

Ecological Communication in Information Society: Reflections on Niklas Luhmann's Thought in Understanding Ecological & Disaster Issues in Indonesia
Ecological issues pose a serious threat to the continued existence of contemporary society. The recent development of humanity as an information society has been unable to overcome ecological issues; indeed, they have become more complex. Rapid advances in information and communication technology have fundamentally transformed various dimensions of human life. At the same time, ecological problems have been complicated by increasingly intense disasters, limited awareness of environmental degradation, as well as the increasingly apparent threat of global warming and climate change. Niklas Luhmann, a German sociologist, offered ecological communication as a conceptual framework for understanding the ecological problems faced by modern society. Through his system theory and concept of resonance, Luhmann sought to explain how modern society, as a complex social system, responds to ecological issues. This article seeks to explore in detail the ecological communication framework developed by Luhmann and use it to understand the ecological issues facing today's information society, especially in Indonesia. The main method used by this research is exploration and explication of the principles of Luhmann's theory, which are implemented to analyze various ecological issues and natural disasters in Indonesia. This research involved the collection of materials on ecological communication from Luhmann's books, as well as the linking of these materials to the ecological problems faced by information society
Framing Effects of Online News Survey Results on Individual Heuristics
Indonesians often consume online news presenting figures of survey results, not only political news but other news as well, for instance, a news headline stated that 63 percent of people on average agreed to a cabinet reshuffle. Strangely enough, it was not stated 37 percent of people on average did not agree to a cabinet reshuffle, which has the same meaning. An attractive frame of online news will potentially get clicks from its audience. In theories of framing effect, news framing in general has a cognitive effect on the audience, including the framing of survey results. However, an opposing view suggests that the advent of new media, especially the internet and Web 2.0 technology, has changed the fundamental order of mass communication, which leads to a minimum effect of new media framing and difficulty in measuring them due to the emergence of preference-based effects as a natural attribute of the online media environment. This interesting research tries to examine the effects of framing in the realm of psychology, which is still quite rarely done in studies on framing effects, by using experimental quantitative methods that test individual evaluation heuristics. The framing of survey results turned out to have an effect on the heuristic assessment of the individual reader. The study prove that the framing effects remain even in new media platforms. The findings presented in this article are expected to contribute to the development of framing theories and media effects
