A Phenomenological Study on Sexuality Education for Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Jakarta
This research is motivated by the researchers' concern about children, especially adolescents with autism. Autism is not a mental illness but it is a disorder that affects the brain, causing it to not function properly. This can be seen in the behavior of children with autism. The purpose of this research is to find out the experiences of parents of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. This research uses a qualitative research design with a research approach to phenomenology. The result of this research showed that sex knowledge of children with autism spectrum disorder is still limited to knowledge of differences between male and female sexes. They obtained sexual knowledge education from schools, while some received it from teachers, therapists, and parents. The level of independence is high. Sexual prohibition is important to give children the knowhow to maintain behavior towards the opposite sex. To improve the sexual health education of parents who have children with autism spectrum disorder, they can attend sexual education seminars
The #permendikbud30 Controversy Over the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education on Social Media
The controversy over the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation (Permendikbudristek) Number 30 of 2021 on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education is interesting to study. Criticism of this regulation, among others, Article 5, which carries the phrase “without the consent of the victim”, raises the meaning of legalizing immoral acts and consent-based free sex. Along with this polemic, reports and news about sexual violence in colleges have also emerged. This debate also occurs in society, especially with the presence of digital media, which makes a discourse grow fast and expand. Various comments and discussions occurred in various media, especially social media. This research using the concept of participatory culture aims to get an overview of public comments through the social media Twitter #permendikbud30, which contains uploads and comments regarding the controversy over Permendikbudristek Number 30 of 2021 and will be carried out through netnography studies. Finally, the results of the analysis show a picture of the diversity of people’s perspectives in giving their opinions, namely: (a) by analogy with verses in the Quran; (b) there are many cases whose handling is not in favor of the victim and a firm law is needed; (c) educational institutions have not been responsive in handling cases that have occurred; (d) there is still polarization in politics, especially related to identity politics and (e) support for the relevant ministries for the ratification of this regulation is an important contribution to handling cases of sexual violence in the campus
Critical Framing Analysis: Violence Against Women on Online Media
The journalistic problem that arises when covering women issues at national and global levels showed that the dominant issues in the mass media were masculine. Women issues were dominant in alternative media. It was assumed that the alternative media use feminist journalism framing in its content. This research used media framing theory as the second level of agenda-setting theory that is supported by standpoint theory in critical paradigm to understand the phenomena. It used descriptive-qualitative approach with critical framing analysis design. The object of study covered 39 articles in February 2022 edition of Konde.Co and Magdalene.Co. The alternative media were chosen because they had feminist vision. The data was analyzed using Robert T. Entmant’s procedure, namely: define problem; diagnosis of causes; make moral judgments; and treatment recommendations. The results showed that almost all the existing articles applied the principles of feminist journalism. The framing of women-related news was more dominant particularly the issue of violence against women. This issue was dominant since until right now it is still happening actually in society. Violence is used by men to subjugate women. Patriarchal power relations are assumed to be behind this phenomenon. This research concluded that the framing of feminist journalism focused on violence against women in public domain committed by men abusers in the position as husbands, lovers, teachers, friends, medical workers, co-workers or public figures. Patriarchism gave men the privilege of using violence as a natural thing to do. Being a feminist man and empowered woman, as well as firm law enforcement were recommendations emphasized in this framing
Personal Social Responsibility Campaign for Helping Others in Facing COVID-19 Pandemic
As one can see, people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and self-isolated are at a risk of experiencing inconvenience such as stigma, lack of support from the environment, loneliness, depression, and anxiety, which may increase premature mortality. They may save their lives if they receive greater attention and support, especially from the closest people in their community besides people who have got support from the community to recover faster from the virus. The act of kindness is a prosocial action in this form called personal social responsibility (PSR). The objectives of the study are to elaborate on the prosocial behavior of PSR and provide a campaign strategy for encouraging people to carry out PSR activities in their community as prosocial action or altruism to support COVID-19 sufferers, especially those who self-isolate and are infected by COVID-19. This study uses a systematic literature review as its method. Data was collected by searching and accessing relevant literature. The data was analysed based on a thematic and descriptive analysis of the selected literature. The study found that PSR plays a significant role in overcoming social burdens among citizens, including in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. To articulate the PSR Campaign, the researcher refer to communication strategies and social campaign models. Through the campaign, prosocial behaviors must generate in many terms of giving product, money, thought, time, or other forms of concern related to feelings
Mapping News Visualization Pattern on Katadata.id and Tirto.id
This study addresses the research gap in understanding the types and patterns of visualization used in Covid-19 infographics. By analyzing infographics from popular media platforms in Indonesia, such as Katadata.co.id and Tirto.id, this research aims to fill the existing gap and find visual trends and preferences relevant to health communication. The theoretical framework draws upon concepts from visual communication, information design theory, and health communication. Using a qualitative approach and content analysis techniques, the study examines a sample of infographics from the aforementioned media platforms, categorizing the visualization and showing key trends and preferences. The findings reveal that both media outlets predominantly utilize illustrations, graphics, and text elements rather than charts. Bar graphs and column charts are the most widely used chart types, with Katadata.co.id showing higher frequency of chart elements compared to Tirto.id. Additionally, Katadata.co.id presents a greater number of interactive charts. The colors commonly employed for charts include blue, yellow, orange, and brown. However, the study does not delve into underlying reasons for these visual trends, whether they stem from specific visual strategies employed by the media or are influenced by other factors. The research findings contribute to the development of visually appealing and easily understandable infographics for policymakers and graphic designers
Building Social Capital Online During the COVID-19 Transition in Indonesia
The COVID-19 pandemic not only causes health problems but also affects the level of social trust. Low social trust occurs in the public sphere and transforms in the digital space. This situation was then deemed necessary to rebuild social capital. This study aims to prove that there are still opportunities in times of crisis where social capital can be re-formed, depending on how social networks initiate voluntary activism on social media. This study used a quantitative approach. Data were collected from Twitter using Ncapture. The data including information on COVID-19 cases were later analysed using the Nvivo 12 Plus software. This study found that there is a possibility and opportunity that low social trust caused by the COVID-19 pandemic can still be restored in times of crisis, at least by utilizing social media as a social networking center. Social networks on Twitter slowly shape cooperative behavior and social trust, and influence collectivities in rebuilding social capital
Distinction, Trajectory, Aromatherapy as Capital Distribution on AgroTourism Destinations Bukit Waruwangi, Serang-Banten
Agrotourism and ecotourism immediately became a trend when the Covid-19 pandemic began to increase and social activity restrictions took effect. This particular market requires the foresight of tourism actors and local governments to provide an open interaction space for residents. This article aims to explain how the postmodern approach with its vision of empowerment is used in agro-tourism destination brands by finding typical behavior in its operations. Using the capital and distinction terminology of Pierre Bourdieu, this study uses a mixed-method approach in the form of network analysis in social media (Youtube, Instagram, and online media coverage) to obtain quantitative data. At the same time, in-depth interviews and observation explored qualitative data. The results show that data on all social media platforms showed positive sentiment. Meanwhile, the results of in-depth interviews show how visitors are willing to take the difficult path to get the essential experiences conveyed in their social media accounts. Data observations also provide an overview of herbal plants cultivation as a way of land use and reflect the habits of residents involved in this agrotourism operation. Thus, the location is the cultural capital, while the natural scenery is Bukit Waruwangi (BWW) symbolic capital as an agro-tourism destination. The voluntary testimonials of visitors in social media accounts are proof of BWW's extensive and networked social capital. While cultivating aromatherapy as a natural product beneficial for health, it is BWW's distinction to differentiate itself in the competitive arena. Aromatherapy and essential oil products are the trajectories of plants that are closely related to palliative medicine in the context of Indonesian culture
The Role of Multicultural Competence Based on Local Wisdom in the Cross-Cultural Adaptation Javanese Muslim Minority in Pagayaman Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali Province
The cross-cultural adaptation in different ethnic and religious communities is not an easy process. Stereotype factors, prejudice, and ethnocentrism will affect the process. In most cases, the cross-cultural adaptation process cannot be optimal and cause psychological pressure and disharmonious interactions between immigrants and hosts. However, the Javanese-Muslim Pagayaman and Balinese Hindus can adapt well. The success of the cross-cultural adaptation is supported by the cultural competence and local wisdom of the two communities. This study aims to determine the cultural competence and local wisdom of Javanese-Muslim Pagayaman and Balinese Hindus in the village of Pagayaman located in Buleleng Regency, Bali Province, during the cross-cultural adaptation process. The study uses the theory of cultural adaptation from Young Yun Kim and a qualitative approach and case study methods from Robert K Yin. Research participants are community and religious leaders. The findings show that the adaptation model performed by both Balinese Hindus and Pagayaman Muslims is integration. Successful adaptation is supported by cultural competencies such as respect (valuing other cultures, cultural diversity), openness (to intercultural learning and people from other cultures, withholding judgment), curiosity, and discovery (tolerating ambiguity and uncertainty)
Analysis of Contents of the Indonesian Public Relations Textbook on Digital Public Relations
Textbooks play an important role in the learning process in universities. They must be able to present the latest developments in theory, concepts and their application in everyday life. In the field of public relations, the existence of textbooks has been recorded since public relations as a scientific discipline was taught in universities. Unfortunately, there is almost no research that examines public relations textbooks in Indonesia. Therefore, this research asks the question of how does public relations textbook written by Indonesian authors discuss digital public relations? The research was conducted through a qualitative approach by describing the discussion of digital public relations and analyzing how public relations textbooks place digital communication technology in public relations. This study found that not all introductory public relations textbooks published between 2015-2020 presented a chapter on digital public relations. The introductory public relations textbooks analyzed presented various digital public relations topics. However, only one textbook that discusses digital public relations is relatively adequate as an introduction. There is a tendency to see digital media technology as a continuation of previous media technology. Digital media has not been fully placed as a medium that allows the process of dialogue and sees media users as the public who can create, produce, modify and share messages through social networks. This research has only succeeded in identifying four textbooks so that the results of this research cannot be used to make generalizations about the discussion of digital public relations. Further research can be directed to study by comparing digital public relations discussions in English texts or translations with Indonesian textbooks
COVID-19: An Assessment of Creative Communication, Crisis Preparedness, and Resilience Building in Hospitality Business in Bali
Two years of COVID-19 pandemic have brought global consequences, especially to those operating in business. This paper examines how risk and crisis preparedness contributed to business survival and resilience in the hospitality sector in Bali, Indonesia, a market significantly dependent on international visitors. This qualitative research employing a phenomenological approach. Initial data were acquired from two months of observation in Bali from March 2020 until the end of May 2020. In addition to observation, semi structured interviews were also conducted with informants from four different hotels, aiming to uncover if the hotels embraced some strategies from the proactive pre-crisis planning to strategic implementations during the crisis. We did not include the after-crisis stage as the pandemic is still ongoing. The researchers validated findings through triangulating interviews with Balinese authorities. We found that although the current crisis disrupted hotel business, it also provided opportunities for creative communication, security strategies, and new connections with public sector health management. Further, in the early stages of crisis management preparedness and focused communication were vital for the level of survivability of the hotels. The study concluded that during a crisis, a successful organization management team does not follow a linear and organized process to lead their business through the stressful and chaotic phases. Based on this study, we learned that business managers who adapted to the situation with crisis preparation, combined with raised awareness of public health issues, and use of commercial strategies focused on local communities can successfully reduce threats
