Setting the Agenda in Communication About the COVID-19 Pandemic on Facebook in Viet Nam
The study utilizes research methods including document analysis, questionnaire surveys, and statistical data processing to examine the reception of information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic during the social distancing period from May 2021 to October 2021 among students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Through this study, it is observed that the Vietnamese government has directed its efforts towards disseminating information about the COVID-19 pandemic by establishing a public consultation program on the Facebook social media platform, one of the most widely used platforms in Vietnam. Additionally, the study applies the Theory of Agenda-Setting to retrospectively examine how governmental agencies and media outlets have persuaded the public and students regarding COVID-19-related issues during the social distancing period through a well-structured public consultation program
Discovering Indonesia: Video Reactions of Jiwa Jagad Jawi Storynomic Tourism
The storynomic tourism approach uses the power of storytelling in the effort to enhance quality tourism and promote destinations. In enhancing this approach a promotional video of Java, called Jiwa Jagad Jawi was launched in 2022 in a theme of rediscovering the mind, body, and soul of Java whilst promoting several destinations in Java. The video ignited multiple reaction videos from Youtubers around the world, a vernacular form of visual production where the Youtuber reacts to a certain media content. Reaction videos towards Jiwa Jagad Jawi holds an interpretation of Java from the creator as well as a production of representation of Java as a destination in the text. Thus, putting video reactions of Jiwa Jagad Jawi as a digital work that extends its designated promotional means with a situated cultural experience of the creator; reframing narration of the destination to their viewers and followers. The present study focuses on “reaction videos” on YouTube towards Jiwa Jagad Jawi in exploring representation and interpretation of the culture and destination. The exploration of interpretation and production in reaction videos of tourism storynomics may offer an understanding to the dynamics of tourism promotional videos in this digitalscape. For the analysis of this exploration, an audience reception framework situated in cultural studies is used to study the reaction videos and comments. The study has found reaction videos as a significant promotional tool that drives further narrations of Indonesia and the reproduction of perceived Java as a destination of peace, serenity, mystical and culturally rich destination
Digital Literacy Skills Against Children's Personal Data Protection on Social Media
The popularity of social media attracts many people to participate in various activities every day. Social media usually comes in the form of audio, graphics, video text and animations that provide convenience to its users to disseminate and access information quickly amd easily. Without realizing it, parents often show off their children's personal data in their parents' and children's accounts, usually for personal or business purposes. The purpose of this study is to examine more about the efforts made by parents to protect children's data privacy on Instagram social media accounts. This study uses the meta-analysis method of the literature study on previous studies. In this study, we want to see how the role of digital literacy in protecting children's personal data is and how to conceptualize children's self-protection digital literacy on social media. The findings of this study with the concept, threats, recommendations regarding the importance of digital literacy for personal data protection and conceptual integration can be used as a reference in further research. The protection of children's personal data is important to thwart the threat of cyber crime, violence and online extortion. It can also be one of the guarantees for children’s good growth and development because the data will not be misused by other parties for financial gain or to threaten children
Government Communication of the Regional House of Representatives in the Process of Formulating Regional Regulations in Indonesia
The Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is a legislative body representing the votes of the vast majority of the populace, and its members are answerable to it. Legislature members have duties, responsibilities, and rights that must be carried out at work. However, DPRD encounters several issues that make carrying out these duties difficult. This study's objectives include examining the Regional House of Representatives Government Communication regarding the formulation of regional regulations in Indonesia, the challenges faced by DPRD members in converting regional regulations draft (Raperda) into regional regulations (Perda), and the DPRD's model for formulating policy in Indonesia. In this work, qualitative research is combined with an empirical legal methodology. Under natural circumstances, data were gathered through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. This study concludes that the government communication of the Raperda formulation in the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD follows the Prudential Principle or is done with extreme caution. The DPRD's use of the precautionary principle can be compared to Dunn's idea of forecasting, namely projection. Discussions around developing proposed regional rules almost always involve challenges and issues. Since political influence is crucial, all efforts will be made in this vein
'I Do it My Way': The Meaning of Independence in Bandung Indie Musicians and Their Media Uses
Bandung from various discourses is often referred to as the epicenter of the development of popular culture in Indonesia, including the independent music scene. Along the way, being independent or mostly known as "indie" is increasingly popular and then has its own meaning for each musician who adopts and practices it. In addition, the role of the media in music activities is also inevitable. Whether it is to maintain their relationships with audiences, share informations, or brand theirselves, they do it through the media. This research will provide a typification of how subjective meaning of being independent can be seen from the use and preferences of media by indie musicians. Researchers interviewed four musicians who live in Bandung. Each of the musicians was interviewed at different times and places. The results show, there are three main types of indie musicians: The Idealists, The Moderates, and The Opportunists. Each type of indie musicians has their own characteristics regarding how they relate to the media. With this kind of typification, third parties (i.e governments, corporations, grassroots communities, etc) that want to build mutual relationships with independent musicians in Bandung can be clearer about which musicians are most appropriate to meet their needs
Building Democracy and Freedom of Expression by Fighting the Covid-19 Infodemic in the Digital Space Among the Younger Generation in Indonesia
A research conducted by Kaspersky in early 2021 showed data in Southeast Asia that the highest percentage of respondents who spread the news without verification were actually in Gen Z (28%), followed by Gen X (21%), and Baby Boomers (19%). Sharing information without verification is very likely to cause the spread of fake news/hoaxes in online media. Indeed, Indonesia pins high hopes on Gen Z (born from 1996-2010) and Gen Y (1980-1995) that are considered part of the upcoming demographic bonus. In various discussions in the digital space, there are also often excuses for using free speech to justify the spread of the Covid-19 hoax in online media. This study aims to discover more about how the role of the younger generation can fight the Covid-19 hoax in the digital space by building democracy and free speech. Hoaxes continuously produced and disseminated by various groups indirectly become part of infodemic production. Even WHO stated that the condition of strengthening infodemics is as dangerous as the current pandemic worldwide. This research uses the method of discourse analysis and social networking analysis (SNA) using big data analysis on Twitter which Gen Z widely use. The results of this study describe how is the role of the younger generation to fight the Covid-19 hoax and find out who are the primary gatekeepers among young Indonesians in this fight against the Covid-19 hoax
Instagram Social Media as Peruri's Public Relations Strategy in Communicating with the Public
Social media provides almost unlimited connection opportunities. Organizational public relations place social media as a platform for carrying out public communication and strategic communication. Determining how to approach and forge relationship between the institution and the community is a strategic communication that the organization needs to put forward. Perum Peruri as the Money Printing Public Company of the Republic of Indonesia manages Instagram social media as part of the effort to communicate with the public. This study aims to see and describe how is Peruri's public relations strategy to utilize Instagram as a means of communication with the public. This research focuses on activities carried out in digital media; characteristics of digital media use; and strategic planning for communicating with the public. This research uses a qualitative approach and descriptive research type. The research took place for three months from October to December 2021. Data of the research was collected through an interview with Yahdi Lil Ihsan as the Secretariat, Protocol and Corporate Communication Bureau of Peruri, and observations through social media monitoring. The results of the study show that the Management of Instagram social media by Peruri aims to build an image as digital security with guaranteed product authenticity and safety. Peruri's PR uses social media as its strategy for communicating with the public. The strategy comprises five stages including mapping the institution's image in the eyes of the public, conducting editorial planning, collecting data to create content, distributing content through Instagram social media, and evaluating (monitoring)
Establishing Autonomy and Responsibilities of Science Writers
An important theme of science communication research is research on science article writers. However, not many scholars are interested in doing this research. Based on this fact, we conducted a research on the ideal position of a science article writer. It turns out that he definition of science writer has changed in Indonesia. Quantitative content analysis of articles reported by The Conversation Indonesia during December 2021 found that the writerss motivated the public to understand and use scientific principles to meet their daily needs. The results of in-depth interviews with three prominent professors at Universitas Gadjah Mada confirm the same fact. They do not just tell the object of research in a certain context. This fact certainly needs to be imitated by other science writers. However, there is a basic recipe that must be practiced by other science writers. The practice of the recipe will make them autonomous and responsible to society. Thus, the article will explain the ways that can be taken to make it happen
Disaster Communication in Reducing the Impact of Regional Losses in Bengkulu City by Local Government
The purpose of this research is to find out and explain the forms of communication that are considered effective and efficient by the Bengkulu regional government in the context of overcoming the impact of losses due to this specific disaster. This research uses a post-positivistic paradigm with a case study research method to find out and evaluate the role of the Bengkulu Regional Government in reducing the impact of losses due to disasters. Data collection will be carried out through interviews and FGDs. The results of the study show that disaster communication in reducing the impact of regional losses is carried out effectively through four aspects, namely: (1) Customer Focus, through efforts to build disaster-related information needed by the community through a flow mechanism for delivering disaster information, starting from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) info to the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and passed on to emergency operation center (Pusdalops) and the media; (2) Leadership Commitment, through the efforts of leaders who are enthusiastic enough to lead disaster resolution in accordance with their main tasks and functions of disasters. In addition, BPBD Leadership elements always go directly to disaster-affected areas; (3) Situational Awareness, through effective communication based on disaster research conducted independently to the results of handling and regional operations (disaster exposure area); (4) Media Partnership, through the involvement of the media in the form of collaborative disaster management such as with state-owned radio station RRI Bengkulu, in addition to using social media accounts such as Instagram and holding press conferences during disasters
Identification of Netizen Communication regarding the Issue of the National Capital Relocation Plan # IKN Nusantara on Twitter
The plan to move the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) from DKI Jakarta Province to East Kalimantan Province sparks pros and cons. Various comments appeared on social media. This study aims to: (1) find out the issues carried in the #IKNNusantara hashtag network; (2) categorize comments into negative, positive, and neutral sentiment categories; (3) find the structure and relationships of the actors in the network. The research methodology is quantitative research approach, the SNA (Social Network Analysis) method using NodeXL software and Sentiment Analysis using the online application Brand24.com on the hashtag #IKNNusantara on Twitter. The results of sentiment analysis show that the conversation is dominated by neutral sentiment. The total number of tweets up to February 16, 2022, was 255. SNA results show that the network density between actors in #IKNNusantara is still low at 0.23 percent. The network diameter describes the network pattern spreads and the cohesiveness between actors is low. The most influential actors based on the value of centrality are the accounts @jokowi and @ir with the highest in-degree values, which shows that a lot of talks are directed to this account. Accounts @d_n4bil5 and @newiding30 who have the highest out-degree are the most active in disseminating information. The @jokowi and @d_n4bil5 accounts serve as bridges because they have the highest betweenness value. Accounts @doddyjasmar and @royadam_lubis have the highest closeness values. Furthermore, the @d_n4bil5 and @langonlegend accounts with the highest eigenvector values are the actors with the most links to other actors. With this result, the government needs to continue to monitor the issue continuously and build awareness among netizens and the Indonesian people in general about the importance of IKN development. The use of social media focusing on delivering messages through the 7 (seven) most influential accounts above can have a significant impact. In terms of issue management, the government also needs to consider the most appropriate strategies to respond to issues according to the type of issue and the government's position on the issue
