Sifat Kimia dan Nilai Biologis Konsentrat Protein Bungkil Inti Sawit Hasil Ekstraksi Kombinasi Fisik-Kimiawi
The experiment was conducted to evaluate chemical characteristics and biological value of protein concentrate extracted from palm kernel meal (PKM) using combination of physical and chemical extraction. The best method of extraction in term of total amino acid (TAA), essential amino acid (EAA), essential amino acid index (EAAI), and protein recovery then was used for protein retention evaluation using 20 heads of male quails age 30 days. The animals were randomly assigned to one of three dietary treatments, while the remaining quails were used to measure endogenous protein. The treatments were; R1=diet containing 9% crude protein from the best protein concentrate from PKM, R2=diet containing 9% crude protein from PKM and R3=diet containing 9% crude protein from soybean meal). The results showed that protein of PKM had isoelectric pH in a range of 4.3-4.4. Protein concentrate of PKM produced by grinding using 0.05 N acetic acid followed by soaking 1 N technical-NaOH had the highest protein quality compared with those of the other treatments. TAA, EAA, EAAI amount of precipitate and protein recovery of the protein concentrate were 33.38%, 16.76%, 62.41%, 12.18% and 50.38%, respectively. Protein retention of quails fed R1 was not different compared to that of R3 (69,82 vs 70,57%), while quails received R2 had the lowest protein retention value (61,19%). It is concluded that combination methods of physical and chemical extraction using 0.05 N acetic acid followed by soaking with 1 N technical NaOH (E3) was the best method in producing high quality of protein concentrate, and the product had similar protein retention value as that of soybean meal. Penggunaan Formula Mineral Lokal dalam Ransum Ayam Petelur
A mineral formula composed of three locally available materials: limestone originated from Bukit Kamang of West Sumatra, freshwater oyster shell and bone meal and fortified with micro minerals of Cu, Zn and I was investigated as mineral supplement for diet of laying hens. The experimental diets were: P0 (diet contained of 6% commercial mineral), P1 (diet contained of 6% local mineral), P2 (diet contained of 6% Bukit Kamangs\u27 limestone) and P3 (diet contained of 6% fresh water oyster shell meal). The total of four experimental diets was then fed to 120 laying hens. The hens were divided into 3 groups based on body weight: heavy, medium and light. Each group was subdivided into 4 subgroups in accordance with number of treatments, so that each treatment consisted of 3 replicates containing of 10 hens. Parameters measured included: feed intake, hen-day egg production, feed conversion ratio (FCR), eggshell quality, mineral retention and mineral composition of tibia bone. Data were subjected to statistical analysis using variance analysis in a completely block design with 4 treatments and 3 blocks as replicates The results showed that the egg weight and eggshell qualities were found not significantly difference, but different mineral sources gave significant effect on egg production and bone mineralization. The laying performances and tibia bone weight of chickens fed diet mixed with the local mineral formula were found not significantly different with those fed diet mixed with commercial formula, but significantly better (P < 0.05) than those of fed diet mixed with only limestone or oyster shell. Hens fed with diet mixed with Bukit Kamangs\u27 limestone showed better performances and heavier tibia bone than those fed with diet mixed with oyster shell. It was concluded that the local mineral formula could be used as sole mineral source for laying hens. The nutritive value of Bukit Kamangs\u27 limestone was better than that of fresh water oyster shell
Pemberian Antanan (Centella asiatica) dan Vitamin C Sebagai Upaya Mengatasi Efek Cekaman Panas pada Broiler
High environmental temperatures may cause heat stress in poultry. This may increase water consumption, decrease feed consumption and in turn, decrease production level. In addition, high temperature contributes to oxidative stress, a condition where oxidant activity (free radicals) exceeds antioxidant activity. In this research, antanan (Centella asiatica) and vitamin C were utilized as anti heat-stress agents for heat stressed broilers. The research used 120 male broilers of 2 - 6 weeks of age, kept at 31.98 ± 1.940C poultry house temperatures during the day and 27.36 ± 1.310C at night. The data colected were analyzed with a factorial in completely randomized design of 2 x 3 (2 levels of vitamin C, 3 levels of antanan and 4 replications) and continued with contrast-orthogonal test when necessary. The result indicated that the treatments of 5% antanan (A5), 10% antanan (A10), combination of A5C, and A10C significantly (P < 0.05) increased the plasma triiodothyronine hormone from 101 ng/dL to 113, 110, 121, 119 and 126 ng/dL respectively; carcass protein from 16.5% to 17.8%, 19.1%, 19.2%, 17.3% and 18.1%; feed consumption from 2711 g to 3026, 3071, 2883, 3156 and 2935 g and body weight gain from 1181 g to 1297, 1347, 1254, 1376 and 1330 g. It could be concluded that the combination of addition 5% antanan and vitamin C 600 ppm is the most effective as anti heat-stress agent in broilers. Key words : Centella asiatica, vitamin C, heat stress, broile
