Additions and omissions to the list of hoverfly fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae) of Slovenia
The changes in the checklist of hoverflies of Slovenia are presented. Fifteen species are recorded as new for the fauna of Slovenia: Brachyopa panzeri, Brachypalpus laphriformis, Callicera aenea, Chamaesyrphus scaevoides, Chalcosyrphus valgus, Melangyna lasiophthalma, Meligramma guttata, Merodon aberrans, Parhelophilus frutetorum, Orthonevra intermedia, Platycheirus occultus, Rhingia borealis, Spazigaster ambulans, Sphaerophoria chongjini and Sphaerophoria fatarum. From the species complex of Merodon aeneus, both M. aeneus species A/B and M. aeneus C were recorded. One species, Xylota caeruliventris, was omitted from the checklist because of misidentification. Ophiostomatoid fungi (Ascomycota: Ophiostomataceae) associated with bark beetles and their possible economic impact in forests and timber production
Ophiostomatoid fungi are commercially and economically important group of fungi in forestry and timber production. This group is represented by several genera of Ascomycetes with common morphological characteristics, although withdistinct taxonomy and phylogeny. Several genera of ophiostomatoid fungi have been considered synonymous solely based on morphological similarities as a result of an adaptation to insect dispersal. Ophiostomatoid fungi cause considerable economic losses in the forestry and timber production due to sap stain and vascular wilt diseases. The threat of introduced ophiostomatoid fungi is increasing with the global timber trade and loose control measurements. An overview of the taxonomy, ecology, concept of association (mutualism/symbiosis) and the economic importance of ophiostomatoid fungi are provided

Felling maturity criteria of beech stands in Slovakia
In this paper, we focus on the felling maturity of beech stands in Slovakia. From an economic point of view, felling maturity of stands depends on volume production, assortment composition at different stand ages, and costs of forest labour. The culmination of net value production serves as a prevailing criterion of felling maturity. Our analyses showed a modest decrease in felling costs after the stand age of 40 years. The mean value increment of beech stands was yield class dependent. The ages of stands when total mean increments culminated were, in comparison with volume production, older on average by 15 years for gross yield and by 28 years for net yield. The latter culminated between 105 and 150 years
Current state of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) gene pool in Slovenia
In Slovenia European beech is autochthonous and the most economically and ecologically important
tree species. The paper presents the characteristics of Slovenian beech forests regarding their natural
distribution range, diversity of beech forest types and site conditions, sustainable co-nature-based
management and gene pool conservation. New information about observed beech injuries and future
perspectives of beech forests in the territory of Slovenia according to predicted climate changes are
included. The mesic beech-forest vegetation may be adversely affected by changing environmental
conditions predicted by the existing climate-change scenarios, and the area of prevailing beech forests
is likely to decrease in the future
