    Digital Gender Gap for Housewives

    The development of communication technology through the internet brings a digital gap for women, especially for housewives who tend to be associated with domestic work. This study examines the use of internet and web newspaper (suaramerdeka.com) access by housewives. This study breaks the patriarchal ideology and the digital gap in family communication in the terms of access to information via internet. The theory used in this study is Gender Structure and Liberal Feminist Theories. This study is a descriptive qualitative research with critical phenomenology design. The results of study suggest that housewives are still excluded from access to information via internet due to unequal power in the use of communication technology in families. This happens because of the pattern of family communication that embraces patriarchy culture believing that housewives only need to take care of domestic issues and do not require internet access

    The Influence of Brand Image Quality to Students Expectation and Satisfaction of Lecture at Politeknik Indonusa Surakarta

    An educational institution should be able to prove the quality of education. Consumers, in this case are students, need the proof of achievement, assessment, certification of quality, and the success of the alumni in getting work related to the field of knowledge. Evaluation is also needed to gain recognition from the community, as well as changes in curriculum and teaching methods that impact to better quality of the graduates. This study aims to analyze brand image influence to the expectations and satisfaction of students by taking sample 100 students from 5 study program i.e D3 Mass Communication, Hospitality, Informatics Management, Automotive, and Pharmacy by using systematic sample technique. Sample criteria that are students who have studied in semester 3 because students with the criteria should be able to evaluate their campus. The result of study indicates that brand image has significant effects to the expectation and satisfaction of the students

    The Representation of Democracy in Islamic News Sites Voa-Islam and ArRahmah

    In Indonesia, various groups with Islamic ideology are emerging and often promoting the idea of Islamic Law to replace democratic concept. Some of these groups use various websites to deliver their ideology to the public and as a form of resistance to the mainstream news. This study uses framing analysis to reveal how Islamic news websites such as VOA-Islam and ArRahmah, portray the concept of democracy unilaterally, according to what they believe. Throug the analysis results that have been done, it is found that the sites frequently claim that democracy is fail system, because democracy is expensive system, creates political oligarchy, and against the teachings of Qur an. These Islamic news websites also frequent;y used information from anti-democratic organization members such as HTI (Hizbut-Tahrir Indonesia), as their primary sources. By contrasting the concept of democracy with Islamic values, this group offered narration that did not lead to healthy and productive discussion

    Representation of Orientalism in Sunsilk Print Advertising

    Using the qualitative method, the critical paradigm, and also Roland Barthes semiotic analysis, this study aims to find out the symbols contained in Sunsilk Co-creations print advertising, the meaning contained in the symbols and how the symbols subordinate the Eastern people. The results of this study indicate that there are seven symbols in Sunsilk Co-creations version print advertising that has unity meaning, i.e there are dominant people who are showed as more superior thus there are other people who are considered inferior. With the myth that the West is better seen as the superior and the East is seen as the inferior, then the symbols and meanings in Sunsilk Co-creations print advertising represent orientalism. The researchers suggest to pay attention to the symbols that will be aired so as not to be negative because it can affect the reputation of the company/institution concerned. Besides that, it is expected to the Eastern people especially Indonesian to be able to change their thought to be more proud and show their confidence

    Communication Strategy Based on Islam Value of U-Jek Online Taxibike (Ojek) in Semarang

    U-Jek was developed by Zarkasyi, in Unissula Semarang. This study aims to explain the communication strategy to develop an online taxibike (ojek) value-based Islam. This research strategy is descriptive qualitative research. Through this strategy, researchers want to know the current condition of U-Jek, ojek in Semarang. Researchers will explain the development of student ojek in Semarang, researchers also eager to analyze the using of communication strategy, and to formulate the right strategy to develop student ojek in Semarang. The researcher also elaborates U-Jek\u27s communication strategy and reveals its advantages and disadvantages. The results show that the biggest challenge of U-Jek communication strategy is the commitment of its managers. U-Jek Manager must increase its communication channel capacity by developing digital application service. In the pyramid communication plan, U-Jek\u27s manager does not pay attention to the aspect of the framework of issues which become message base

    Information about Electronic Governance: A Tool to Curb Corruption in Nigeria

    Corruption has been declared to be the cause of poverty and poor standard of living in the Nigeria. This is caused by lack of accountability and transparency in the Government sector, mostly aided by manual accounting system and ordinary paper document in the operation of the sector. Sequel to the evolution of Information and Communication Technology, electronics governance was implemented in Nigeria. Therefore, this study examines the role of electronic governance as a tool for curbing corruption in Nigeria. As such, a survey instrument were administered to 240 civil servants from different public sectors in Nigeria. The findings revealed that, implementation of e-governance has helped to curb corruption in Nigeria and also played a great role in improving efficiency of Nigeria economy. Also this study found that, the need to embrace electronics governance given the phobia exhibited by many Nigerian populace and workforce as to the use of electronics governance

    Discourse Analysis of Politicians Social Media Posts

    The use of social media, especially by political figures, can directly bridge communications between politicians and their constituents and other supportive or opposing parties. This study aims to analyze the posts of political figures social media using discourse analysis to convey explicit or implicit messages that can not be separated from political intentions. Discourse analysis helps to understand the meaning of message or text of the media regarding the messenger\u27s social environment and relationships. The study found that three political figures with most followers in three most popular social media platforms--Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter--Prabowo Subianto, Ridwan Kamil, and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono represent their nationalism and Islamic identity in their social media posts. They also convey their opinions about the general political issues in spite of divisive political condition among public that is also visible among politicians

    Entman Framing Analysis of Food Governance in Online Media

    The article aim is to understand how kompas.com and sindonews.com on the period of 16 October 2017 up to 21 October 2017 framing the news related to food governance in Indonesia using Entman Framing Analysis. Entman Framing is an alternative method to see media differentiation in reveal the reality. According to the researcher, the two media possess its own differentiation in interpreting those realities, so that media could be considered as reader mindset influencer. The concept and theory of the article is agenda setting, reality construct, Entman framing, news and online media. The article method is qualitative using news article as analysis unit. The result show that the two online media emphasize issue about food governance management system. But the assertion of the two news are different; kompas.com tend to build and develop the village and farmer regeneration aspect, while sindonews.com emphasized on reinforcement the management system of food governance

    Computer Mediated Communication or CMC is able to present a virtual community,  where the people inside have the same interest to share information related to events, activities, competitions, entertainment, history, event and others in Semarang City for publication. This research attempted to describe that hashtags can be utilized as the identity of a message in a communications network on Facebook Group MIK Semar. The results of this study are hashtags have changed how we build a virtual community, as the use of hashtags in Facebook Group MIK SEMAR as message identity to build better relationship and support communication among its members

    Inter-Ethnic Communication Barriers in Pontianak City

    This study aims to find out how the expectations of each ethnic group in maintaining the issue of inter-ethnic life harmony in the Province of West Kalimantan, especially in Pontianak City which consists of the majority of the ethnics of Dayak, Malay, and Tionghoa. Multi-ethnic life in Pontianak City often creates various conflicts. This study is a qualitative research using descriptive qualitative method. In this study, the reseachers linked several theories of intercultural communication and identified the communication barriers such as Stereotype, Ethnocentrism, etc. This study found that inter-ethnic conflicts can arise due to the absence of opened mind in facing the differences, the lack of mutual tolerance and mutual respect among ethnic groups. In addition, communication barriers also become one of the factors of the arise of such inter-ethnic conflict
