Those Who Left and Those Who Stayed: Diasporic ‘Brothers’ Seen as the New Others in the Bosnian Context
This article explores the division between the diaspora and the homeland dwellers in the context of post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina. More specifically, the focus is on the constructed otherness of perceived co-ethnics who left because of the war (the ‘leavers’) in relation to those who stayed in the country (the ‘stayers’). I argue that the division into stayers and leavers presents one of the most prominent non-ethnically framed Bosnian divisions. The article is based on two qualitative research projects, which I conducted between 2011 and 2016. The narratives selected to support the main argument were taken from my thirty-five interviews with people who experienced displacement. Twenty of these interviews were conducted with people resettled abroad (the diaspora) and fifteen involved people who were repatriated after living abroad for many years (the returnees). The case study thus provides the opportunity to explore the otherness that my interviewees experienced as one of the social divisions based on experiential and socio-economic differences. This type of division can – to some degree – challenge the perceived solidarities based on ethnic sameness among the people who reside in and originate from Bosnia and Herzegovina

This article deals with the solidarity kitchen, a collective, self-organized food practice, which has its roots in the left-wing political culture. The field studies are focused on the social and ecological elements contained in space and the motivation of its actors. I conducted interviews and participant observations in several solidarity kitchens of Hamburg
Parteiisches Design
Jesko Fezer calls for a political attitude in design processes. The degree and form of political design lies in the hand of the designer. An awareness of goals and values must be created in order to be able to oppose the current and forthcoming transformation processes. Fezer pleads for design in a political sense: one that positions itself, locates itself in the conflicts, does not shy away from disputes and refers to attitudes in all spectra
Based on the sociological thesis, which perceives affects as social instruments that appear whenever formerly stable worldviews start to falter, the present article subjects the long poem La cautiva by Esteban Echeverría to a critical analysis. Belonging to the canon of nation-building literature, the text stages the conquest of the Pampa by two lovers and their love death. If the text reads at first glance as an affectionate proclamation of an Argentine nation, a connotative semantics of orality and literality reveal an increasingly distant relationship with the former and a turning towards the latter. Not the indigenous people alone, but rather the spoken or shouted word with which the text connects them, is subject to limitation, thus paving the way for the visibility of the written word and facilitating the national project
A New Witness to the Chronicle of John of Nikiu: EMML 7919
This article introduces a new witness to the Chronicle of John of Nikiu (EMML 7919). It analyses the text of this witness alongside the four previously known Ethiopic manuscripts of this work. The article considers the current state of research on the Chronicle of John of Nikiu, including an examination of the textual witnesses, the language of the original composition, and the biographical and historical information of the chronicler. The textual analysis of EMML 7919 demonstrates a strong relation with the text attested in ANL Conti Rossini 27, which suggests that EMML 7919 is highly valuable for the reconstruction of the Ethiopic version of the Chronicle of John of Nikiu. Finally, there is a catalogue entry for EMML 7919, which details the textual and codicological features of the manuscript

Ex-Voto. A Photo Essay
Based on my research at three pilgrimage sites – Ballyvourney in Ireland, Mount Grabarka in Poland and Lourdes in France – this photo essay explores the meaning of religious offerings (known as ‘ex-voto’) and provides an intimate view onto sacral landscapes, temporally and spatially removed from the everyday. Through the complex entwining of people, places and objects, these images raise numerous potential arguments, about travel, devotion, belonging, traces and the meaning of home
