The Importance of refining design principles when conducting educational design experiments on biodiversity in Latin America

This research aims to develop and refine a design process to approach the concept of biodiversity from an integral and polysemic perspective, contemplating real problems in the context of practice. The teaching and learning sequences proposed in this article originate from different design principles, structured considering pedagogical guidelines that emerged from the Model of Educational Reconstruction (MER). The design principles formulated sought to deal with the diversity of perceptions that students have about the concept of biodiversity in the North and Southeast regions of Brazil and to provide different possibilities of action for teachers. From the process of refining design principles, became evident that the sequence drawn about biopiracy was not aligned with the reality experienced by students in the North region. For this context, it was essential to consider that students do not develop knowledge about biodiversity only through the school curricula, especially those immersed in a sociocultural context rich in indigenous and local knowledge about biodiversity, and topics like as illegal exploration and impacts of mining would be much better. It is expected that this study can help fill research gaps related to the relevance, understanding, application, and effectiveness of design principles in the practice of local contexts and offer a sensitive glimpse at the multiple nuances that permeate the scientific approach to the concept of biodiversity in Latin America

Starting from the consideration that the Covid-19 pandemic has given rise to a new relationship between private and public space, the article focuses on two novels written in Italy which centre on the Covid-19 pandemic and in particular the first lockdown: Massimo Gramellini’s C’era una volta adesso (2020) e Giuseppe Genna’s Reality (2020). Through the concept of “literary space” theorised by Jurij Lotman, the article will establish how the texts examined allow for a crossing between different symbolic subspaces: if C’era una volta adesso focuses on the protagonist’s private space, which nevertheless later takes on a political significance, Reality tends towards the disappearance of the narrator-protagonist, who becomes an “eye” turned outwards, capable of crossing the tabooed spaces of the pandemic.

Expanding the Technological-Pedagogical Fluency of teachers in the context of BasicEducation is a concrete and urgent challenge to be solved in the Brazilian scenario. For this, teacher education processes have been implemented according to the principles of Design-Based Research (DBR). Phases of diagnosis, planning, implementation, observation, andredesign have generated intervention and production cycles to develop solutions andcontribute to the resolution of real problems. In this scope, a pedagogical product resultingfrom DBR is analyzed. This is a proposal for emerging education process on OpenEducational Resources (OER) implemented through a Small Open Online Course. Theempirical results demonstrate the potential of DBR applied in an educational context topromote teacher (co)authorship. This is possible through the creation and free sharing ofOER in public repositories. As conclusions, it is highlighted that teacher education throughthe iterative cycles of DBR increases Technological-Pedagogical Fluency and, consequently, enhances disruptive educational innovation

Juan Rulfo’s narrations are haunted by so many ghosts that the characters themselves can sometimes hardly distinguish whether they belong to the living or the world of the dead. This is well known and has been sufficiently analyzed. However, the spectral has also found its way into Rulfo’s far less researched photographic work and thereby decisively shapes – narrows or extends – its pictorial space. Nonetheless, Rulfo’s photographs take on a completely different dimensionality and plasticity; they constantly go beyond any kind of mere reproduction: the in-visible becomes present. This article studies the techniques that Juan Rulfo uses to visualize ghostly elements in his photographs (on a visual and auditive level). It will also include how the viewer’s gaze is directed and how the illusion of what is presumedly seen is inherent to the image. Yet, this is not just generated through specific medial methods, but also – that is my argument – through textual techniques that become a model for visual ‘phantasmagoric images.

This article proposes a cognitive-anthropological reading of two autobiographical texts about childhood from the Grande Région, an area of transnational cooperation comprising the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and its neighbouring Belgian (Wallonia), French (Lorraine) and German (Lorraine and Rhineland-Palatinate) lands. We show that in Luxrmbourgish writer Carla Lucarelli’s Enfance, instantanés. À l’aube de la mémoire (2020) and in Notre enfance en Lorraine. Enfants de la guerre et du baby-boom (2014), co-written by Robert Jung and Nina del Tragheto, the regional space acts not only as a matrix for the diegesis, but also constitutes the driving force behind the writing project. Focusing on the reconstruction of a mental experience (Lucarelli) and an era (Jung and del Tragheto) through autobiographical memory, mental imagery and documentary photography, both works were born as responses to questions raised by belonging to a liminal, multilingual and multiethnic space, with porous borders that give rise to reflections on both personal identity, and the narrative and aesthetic mechanisms underlying their depiction.
