    KONJO-BUGINESE LANGUAGE ACCOMMODATION IN INTERACTION WITH THE IMMIGRANTS IN WEST SINJAI

    This study aimed to identify the use of Konjo-Buginese language in West Sinjai, Sinjai Regency and the Konjo-Buginese language accommodation in interacting with the immigrants. This study employed the ethnography theory by Dell Hymes. The data were gathered using in-depth interview, observation, and documentation and analyzed using the communication accommodation theory by Howard Giles. The results showed that Konjo-Buginese language used in West Sinjai was adopted mostly from the Konjo Mountains language and the accommodation took the form of convergence. The divergent speech behavior was only performed by the elderly people and those who do not speak Indonesian

    PHONOLOGICAL PROCESS OF PREFIX /IN-/ IN FRENCH

    This article aims to know sound variations of prefix /in-/ in French and to explain phonological process of prefix /in-/ in French. The addition of the prefix / in- / can change the meaning of words into the opposite meaning. This prefix has orthographic and phonetic variation which means there are phonological rules in it, the focus of research is on sound variations and phonological rules prefix / in- / in French. The research subject is French, while the object research is adjective in French with prefix / in- /. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with observation method and note-taking technique. The approach used is transformational generative phonology. The addition of the prefix /in-/ indicates that this prefix has a function as a negative marker (negative prefixes). The result of the analysis shows that sound variations of prefix /in-/ in French are [iŋ-], [in-], [im-], [il-], [iʁ-]. The phonological process that occurs in it is an assimilation process. Assimilation process that occurs in the form of nasalization because there are changes in the sound of consonants that are nasalized in the nasal sound environment

    USING EDUCATIONAL DIGITAL TOOLBOX IN E-LEARNING tO BOOST STUDENTS’ READING MOTIVATION IN COVID-19 PANDEMIC

    This study aimed at investigating  the use of educational digital toolbox in e-learning to motivate college students’ reading motivation, such as recognizing ideas, comprehending texts using graphics, images, and charts, audio, audio-visual and video to personal experience, opinion or evaluation. The study attempted the qualitative method. The instrument used was a questionnaire which were prepared for the purpose and which was administered to 84 students at Indraprasta university, majoring in English education department in South Jakarta, during March and April 2020. The result of this study shows most of students boost their reading motivation by using educational digital toolbox in e-learning process. Give the new perspective that language students can be motivated to use long distance learning more active and more interactive, as well as enrich their learning experiences. Moreover, using appropriate pedagogical implementations such as effective digital toolboxes, interesting reading topics and students’feedback can boost students’ reading motivation with the changing learning trend

    THE CONSTRUCTION OF CHILDREN MORAL REASONING IN STRENGTHENING SELF-CONTROL

    Self-control is achieved by popular children stories, by which they are able to help children see themselves and change their way of life to ensure a sustainable future. Besides, the stories also function to identify, investigate, evaluate, and take appropriate actions in order to maintain, protect, and develop one’s mentality and characters, environment, and society. The purpose of this study was to reveal the construction of children moral reasoning in children stories contained in a national daily newspaper of Suara Merdeka in 2018. As based on the research substance, this present study relied on the qualitative and critical analysis methods. The results suggests that children, as the main characters in every story, have morals and do reasoning in dealing with problems. The construction of moral reasoning is classified into three, i.e., construction of moral reasoning in children’s relationship with family, with friends, and with society. Such constructions will give relevance to children's self-control in solving various problems and coping with pressures

    RHETORIC STRATEGY IN CLASSROOM DISCUSSION

    This article aims to describe the pattern of question strategies and strategies for answering in class discussion activities. The documentation technique is used in collecting data sourced from verbal data, namely the speech of students who present the role as presenters and discussion participants, and lecturers who respond to the results of the discussion. The results of the analysis show that there is a pattern of rhetorical strategies generated in the speech of students in class discussion presentations. The pattern includes question strategies and answer strategies. In the question strategy in class discussion there are four formulas, among others; (1) description + question + marriage - is there in the speech of the audience and questioner ,(2) description + question + explanation is in the lecturer speech, (3) question + description is in the questioner's speech, (4) question + explanation + question is in the speech questioner. Whereas in the strategy of answering in class discussions there are two strategies found, among others; (1) the directanswerstrategy is found in the answering speech and (2) the indirectanswerstrategy is found in the answering speech

    INTERPRETATION OF SUTAN TAKDIR ALISJAHBANA'S NOVEL "DIAN YANG TAK KUNJUNG PADAM"

    This study aims to uncover the implicit meaning contained in Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana’s novel Dian yang Tak Kunjung Padam through Yuri Lotman's semiotic approach. The first edition of this novel was published in 2007 by Dian Rakyat with a total of 156 pages. The method used in this study was qualitative method. The data were collected from two sources, namely intra textual data which was Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana’s novel Dian yang Tak Kunjung Padam and extra textual data which were correlated to the novel. The results showed that the structure of the novel was formed by semantic units in the form of binary oppositions which were equivalent to each other. The semantic units led to an archiseme which was a spatial form of the aristocracy view of life namely longing vs. hate. In the novel, the aristocracy view of life in Palembang society was placed in opposition to the structure of another view of life, the proletariat. The later was evaluated based on the aristocracy. The codes of aristocracy and proletariat in the text of the novel were related to those outside the text. The main semantic units of Palembang aristocracy are bilateral vs. personal and wealth vs. love

    ANALYSIS OF MACROSTRUCTURE AND SUPERSTRUCTURE OF CORRUPTION NEWS DISCOURSE IN NEWSPAPERS

    This study aims to determine the construction of news texts in newspapers, especially in the dimensions of macrostructure and superstructure. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with the analysis of Teun van Dijk's critical discourse, specifically the dimensions of the text. The results showed that in reporting corruption cases in Suara Merdeka, Republika, Kompas, and Jawa Pos newspapers, journalists constructed the news cases by focusing on news themes about ongoing corruption. Meanwhile, in the superstructure dimension, a number of news scheme categories are formulated to build a story, which is a summary, which is marked by two elements namely the title and lead and story, namely the overall news content from introduction to the end

    This research aims to determine how the effect of family communication intensity atchildren’s knowledge level of pancana language. This research took place in Central Buton, Southeast Sulawesi. The type of research used by researchers is quantitative research methods using multistage random sampling techniques in determining samples. This research uses data collection methods using a questionnaire. In this study, the data collected through the questionnaire was then analyzed by using the SPSS program assistance. The results of the analysis of multiple linear regression tests to test the proposed hypothesis show that the value of Fcount>Ftable (40.9822> 2.402). From the results of the test it was concluded that the intensity of family communication simultaneously or jointly gave a positive and significant influence on the level of knowledge of children in pancana language

    Interrogative Sentence in Mandailing Language: X-bar Theory. This study aims to analyze grammatical and lexical structure in interrogative sentence in Mandailing language. The  study of this interrogative sentence structure applies X-bar  theory as one of the generative syntax subtheories. This type of research includes qualitative research using distributional method. The data were collected through interview and observation. The result of the study showed that the wh-question in Mandailing language had grammatical function as spesifier and komplement, while the total question sentence had a function as a komplement.
