The geologic potentials of Riau Islands Province and its development design
Geologically Riau Islands is located in the topography of the old stadium erosion. The morphology is characterized by smooth hills with convex slopes and alluvial plain consisting of the erosion products. The morphology exhibits the remnants of peneplain that submerged at ca 13,000 BP now forming Sunda Shelf with the average depth of 120 meters. The irregular coast’s line of almost all the islands in Riau Islands characterized the submerged old morphologic stadium. The lithology consists of granites and metasediments. Granites contain various types of economic minerals. The weathered granites produce bauxite, kaolin and quartz sands. The metasediments are generally soft resulting in the formation of valleys suitable for agriculture and settlements due to the availability of surface and subsurface water. Irregular coastal line provides the bays for harbors. The geological potentials to be developed therefore consists of the provision of stable plain and resistance to landslide and earthquake, the bays suitable for various marine industries, granites for building materials, and base metals. The submarine hydrocarbon basins produce oil and gas. Geologically Riau Islands is very unique because it represents the remnants of the peneplain of Jurassic and Cretaceous age of about 63 to 181 years old now becoming the Sunda shelf which is the largest in the world. This region is very good when developed as an industrial area, trade, and marine tourism Keywords: Riau Islands, geologic potentials, granites, submerge, marine touris

Rising public expenditure and economic growth, was Wagner right? Evidence from Nigeria
This study empirically tests if the Wagner’s law stands for the Nigerian economy using data for the period 1981-2015. Form the results, economic, social and community services expenditure show highly significant values suggesting that these sectors are very much needed and still adds value to the economy. The results of the Granger causality analysis indicates that there is a bi-directional causality between economic growth and government spending, which posit to a high level of accuracy that Wagner’s law holds for Nigeria. The result suggests that economic growth has an important role to play in determining government spending because as the economy grows, it expands and for this, government need to expand its spending to meet up with the demands of the expansion. There is therefore the need for curtail the rapid growth of its size above the optimum level that stimulates rise in expenditure. Any further expansion in expenditure should focus on economic, social and community services since they are growth enhancing
The impact of exchange rate volatility on manufacturing sector in sub-Saharan Africa (1980-2015)
This study examined the impact of exchange rate volatility on manufacturing sectors in selected sub-Saharan Africa from the period 1980 to 2015. Panel data regression analysis was adopted in the study. Panel pooled OLS, panel fixed effect and Dynamic Generalised Method of Moment models were used for the estimation. The pooled OLS result shows that Gross Domestic Products and physical capital have positive impact on economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa while trade openness, interest rates and exchange rate volatility have negative impact on manufacturing sector. The results from fixed effect and Dynamic Method of moment model shows that trade openness, interest rate and exchange rate volatility have negative impact on manufacturing sector
An analysis of determinants of deposit money banks lending in Nigeria, 1990-2014
Deposit money banks thrives on financial intermediation. Funds lending constitutes the largest income-earning asset in the portfolio of most deposit money banks generally. Hence, banks deploy huge resources to estimate, monitor and manage the quality of their loans and advances. This study aims at investigating the determinants of lending of deposit money banks in Nigeria. Secondary data was used to justify the relationship between commercial banks and lending in Nigeria. More so, the model used was estimated using Nigeria deposit money banks loans and advances (LOA) as dependent variable, and determinants (independent variables) such as volume of deposit (Vd), Interest rate (Ir), liquidity ratio (Lr) and annual average exchange rate (ExR) for the period of 1990 - 2014 (25 years). The techniques used in this investigation were : Augmented Dickey-fuller (ADF) test), multiple regression analysis and Granger causality test. The estimated result revealed that there is a positive relationship between loans and advances and volume of deposit and annual average exchange rate of Naira to dollar, while interest rate and liquidity ratio has a negative relation: all conform to the approri expectation. The study then suggests that commercial banks should focus on mobilizing more deposits as this will enhance their lending performance, and should formulate critical, realistic and functional plans that will ensure its profitability, liquidity and solvency. The government should ensure it uses monetary policy such that will create enabling environment for the deposit money banks to generate more deposits so as to channel it to investors for investmen
Nigeria’s economic growth and The Sisyphus Odyssey: a theoretical retrospect
We posit in the paper that getting out of Dutch disease or resource curse in Nigeria will be a mirage if the more potent disease of institutional decay, ethnicity and religious bigotry are not settled. Those who have opportunity to advice the country has over the years wrongly fixated on the rise or fall of GDP and foreign investment flows as attention is now centered on extraction industry. We recognize institutional factors as major determinants of growth in Nigeria. From our analysis it is observed that Nigeria has indeed fallen into the trap of Dutch disease and resource curse phenomenon. We also observe that Nigeria is ethnic bias and highly religious in virtually everything. And every policy of the government (economic, social or political) is weighed on the scale of religion or ethnic benefit. It is equally sad to note the quantum of resources engaged to curtail ethnic clashes as well deaths and IDPs. As Nigeria is governed by ethnic sentiments and religious bigotry , it increases the tendency for corruption and its attendant negative economic consequences. These constitute serious impediments and make the task of growth Sisyphean
Dynamic links between economic growth, institutions, fiscal policy and stock market development
Economic growth is a most crucial factor that plays its role to improve the living standards in a country. But there is no consensus about the variables explaining the economic growth of economies. This paper is an attempt to explore the impact of institutional quality, instruments of fiscal policy, and stock market development on economic growth for a small developing economy, Pakistan over the time span of 1984-2016. To determine the long and short run relationship of the variables, Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to integration is applied. An index of institutional quality is constructed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA) considering twelve institutional indicators given by International Country Risk Guide (ICRG). The findings of the study reveal a positive relationship of public spending, institutional quality and stock market development on economic growth of the country. It is suggested that improvement of institutional quality, productive public spending and efficient financial markets are driving forces for economic prosperity and development of Pakistan

The result shows that the implementation of the legal and process accountability for fixed asset management in Jambi City is categorized as good
Partnership model for small industry in cluster perspective in encouraging regional development (case study on some small industries in Jambi City)
This study aims to analyze: 1) the profile of the small industry clusters in Jambi City, those are batik industry cluster, tofu/tempeh industry cluster and furniture industry cluster; 2) the collaboration/partnership between various business actors and other parties in small industry cluster in Jambi City works; 3) an effective partnership models for small industry clusters. This research is a collective case study (survey and case study). The analysis was carried out on the profile of the small industry cluster and the partnership between various industrial groups in the small industry cluster. The results of the study showed that Jambi City has potential for the development of small industries. It can be seen from the development of business and employment in small industries. Based on the partnership between industry groups, in Batik industry cluster and tofu/tempe industry cluster, it showed the existence of upstream partnership to the source of raw materials, downstream partnership to the consumers, and partnership with supporting industries. In terms of pattern, the partnerships are directed towards traditional partnerships which are based on trust. Meanwhile in the furniture industry cluster, there is no partnership at all, both upstream and downstream, as well as partnership with the supporting industries. However, the partnerships have not been effective. For this reason, it is necessary to build a partnership in small industry cluster that pays attention to the principle of mutual benefit, equality, legality, empowerment, and social capital
