    Perspektif Islam tentang Resiprositas Hubungan Pelestarian Alam dan Kehidupan Sosial

    Within philosophical and spiritual spheres, Islam is perceived as to have strong legitimation to develop universal ecological ethics. Ecology, as a place where the harmony and unity between humans and cosmological aspects rest, should be an important matter of emphasis in the future. However, there have been ecological crises caused by the shifting nature of knowledge and technology from evolution into revolution ones. Employing descriptive-analytical method, this article seeks to scrutinize reciprocal relation between environmental preservation and social lives. Using Islam’s perspective on ecological aspect, the study also attempt to offer solution toward ecological problems faced by human nowadays. The study finds that there is a strong reciprocal relation between natural preservation and alleviation of such social problems as poverty. In addition, the study offers a solution what so-called ecological awareness to deal with ecological problems faced by human nowadays. The study would argue, moreover, that formulation of the ecological ethics promulgated by Islam through al-Qur’ân is a concept which puts strong emphasis on such noble values as respect and appreciation towards the nature. This is because Islam views the nature as an integral and pivotal part of human’s lives. Therefore, they should built a mutual-symbiotic relation in order to create what so-called ecological equilibrium

    The article explains madrasah empowerment actions through a set of assistance processes at MI (Islamic elementary school) Uyunul Ulum and MTs (Islamic secondary school) Bahrul Ulum in the Village of Gayam in Bojonegoro. Through participatory action research approach, the process of assistance is intended to: 1) identify the impact of oil and gas exploration and exploitation towards the existence of madrasah in the Cepu Block; 2) formulate an appropriate model of madrasah empowerment in the oil and gas exploration area; 3) implement the appropriate assistance processes of madrasah empowerment in the area. The assistance processes cover a number of activities such as focused group discussion with the local communities, workshop of madrasah development, and facilitating activities for teachers and educational administrative staff members. The assistance has brought about the following results: 1) oil and gas exploration and exploitation have resulted in significant impact towards economic, cultural, and circumstantial changes; 2) madrasah plays a strategic role to create excellent generation based on Islamic values; 3) madrasah’s capacity should be strengthened in order to create outstanding human resource, curriculum, and means of education; 4) the assistance process should be continuously maintained in order to assure and increase the quality of madrasah

    The article examines the dynamics of political Islam of the Arabian Peninsula in 1800-1930 and their influence to the foundation of the Modern Saudi Arabia Kingdom and their impact to religious practices in the Holy Land. The study is considered important due to the changing phenomenon of religious under-standing in the Holy Land. A new orthodox ideology has been able to change the well-established traditional understanding and become a dominant school until nowadays. The study concludes that: 1) Socio-political constellation of Hijaz before 19th century had been marked by the decrease of political supremacy of Hijaz along with far migration of the Islamic governmental center from Madinah; 2) One of the culminations of political dynamics of the Arabian Peninsula between 1800 and 1930 was the establishment of the Modern Saudi Arabia Kingdom; 3) Such political dynamics have subsequently resulted in the purification of Islamic sharî‘ah in accordance with the Wahabi’s doctrines, obliteration of the tradition of four maqâmât in Masjid al-H{arâm, conformation of Islamic education with the Wahabi’s dogmas, and the increase of orthodoxy and the decrease of popular Sufi’s credo

    Within the business realm, marketing is a key factor which determines the success of distribution. Therefore, strategy and innovation are a necessity. Marketing activity would ensure whether a certain product is delivered to the costumers. In order to achieve the desired goals of marketing, it is important to manufacturers to follow a set of marketing processes, which comprise market overview, marketing strategy, marketing mix, and evaluation. Marketing mix is a set of strategies consist of product, price, promotion, and distribution, which guarantee the success of marketing activities. All of these aspects are intended to attain responses from the targeted market. The article seeks to discuss the marketing mix strategy implemented by BMT UGT Sidogiri Pasuruan based on four “Ps”, namely product, price, place, and promotion. The study finds that the marketing mix strategy employed by BMT UGT has met the costumers’ needs in terms of product strategy, pricing strategy, distribution strategy, and promotion strategy. The study also concludes that the proper implementation of marketing mix strategy and its compatibility with Islamic sharîʻah as well as the organization’s obedience towards Islamic business ethics are among pivotal factors that have significantly influenced the development of BMT UGT Sidogir

    This article explores a new model of Islamic boarding schools in the modern era. Various innovations appear to be made as an urgent change to Indonesia’s educational system. “Pesantren entrepreneur” is, among other, a new way (manhaj) of Indonesia’s contemporary education to reduce unemployment and overcome poverty. The concept is that students (santri) are not merely taught such religious lesson (tafaqquh fî al-dîn) but they also trained to be able to understand and possess ability within economics aspect (tafaqquh fî al-tijârah). It is assumed that the more pesantren entrepreneur are established the stronger the nation’s economy will be. It has been undeniable fact that Indonesia’s independent and its development have been strongly supported by Islamic educational system, namely Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) which widely spread across Nusantara. The implementation of pesantren entrepreneur has been initiated from a strong desire to develop pesantren through active, creative, productive and innovative actions which will subsequently provide pesantren chance to independently maintain its existence. The author argues that such an effort will be able to create better future for our next generation

    Telaah Fenomenologis Patrimonialisme Budaya Politik Terhadap Konflik Sunnî-Shî‘ah Madura

    The article attempts to discover the violence conflict between the Sunnî and the Shî‘ah Muslim communities in Karang Gayam and Blu’uran, Sampang, Madura. The conflict between the two communities has occurred since 2005 to 2013, and has escalated from one event to another. The conflict has caused the expulsion of Shî‘ah people out of Madura island to the refugee’s flats of Puspa Agro Sidoarjo on June 20, 2013. Based on the evidences found, the research is intended to study the phenomenon using phenomenological and patrimonial-political-cultural approa-ches. The study finds that the conflict itself has been caused by a set of hatred discourses and accusation of being heretic, which have been intensely propagated by the local religious elites, i.e. kiai against the Shî‘ah community led by Tajul Muluk. Moreover, the conflict escalation was, among other, due mainly to the strength of patronage relations of the kiais to infiltrate their hegemony and produce the mass to commit violent actions. Incongruously, the power of patronage has been also benefited by the government and many political elites to maintain their political electability and votes. As a result, the government seems to be reluctant to show a firm attitude by enforcing the existing rules to deal with the issue

    Kritik Pemahaman Hadîth Negara Islam Irak dan Suriah (NIIS)

    The politization of ḥadîth within social and political dimension has been in fact an undeniable matter since the beginning of the Islamic history. The proponents of Negara Islam Irak dan Suriah (NIIS) [The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS)], as a modern political movement, claimḥadîth as one of their main religious, social, and political justifications, which is actually incongruous to the mainstream understanding of the global Muslim community. It is, therefore, a necessity to raise a discourse for analyzing the understanding of NIIS’s proponents onḥadîth based on the Method of Critique of Matn or Ma‘ânî al-Hadîth. The research focuses mainly on Dabiq magazine which is officially issued by the NIIS. It is analyzed descriptively, critically, and comparatively. The research concludes that the understanding of NIIS’s proponents onḥadîth on khilâfah, jihâd, hijrah, îmân and al-malh}amat al-kubrâ has erroneously deviated from the common and approved methods employed by the scholars ofḥadîth. NIIS’s understanding has been widely criticized by the scholars ofḥadîth of being partial, inconsistent, less careful, and has no theological, ideological and political root as well as historical evidences

    The article seeks to discuss the concept of education based on “the Golden Generation” promulgated by M. Fethullah Gulen in creating the best next generation. The study shows us that education is undisputedly the sole pivotal way to nurture the noble values of humanism upon the pupils. Gulen’s Golden Generation is a pure generation which is able to put themselves as an example and possess great motivation to the values of humanism to serve other people. The aim of the creation of the Golden Generation is to generate welfare for every nation and light its way to reach both physical and spiritual wellbeing. At this point, a school can be regarded as a laboratory, which offers “an efficacious medicine” to heal social pathos and those who possess knowledge and wisdom to formulate such medicine are teachers. Family, on the other side, plays indubitably important role to support and motivate the children to develop their abilities and skills for the sake of themselves and other people. In this context, family along with society also take a pivotal part to establish what so-called “a new strong pillar” for the nation

    This article explores theological thought of al-Ash‘arî in Abû al-Su‘ûd’s work Irshâd al-‘Aql al-Salîm ilâ Mazâyâ al-Kitâb al-Karîm. The study finds an interesting fact that when interpreting the Quranic verses on theological matters, Abû al-Su‘ûd tended to affiliate to Ash‘arîyah. However, Abû al-Su‘ûd firmly stated that he referred most to al-Kashshâf of al-Zamakhsharî in his exegetical works. It has been widely known that al-Zamakhsharî was one of prominent proponents of Mu‘tazilah. The article emphasizes a number of theological issues discussed by Abû al-Su‘ûd in his tafsîr such as God’s free will, anthropomorphism, and God’s justice. There have been three steps to analyze theological thoughts of Ash‘arîyah mentioned in Abû al-Su‘ûd’s work, are: firstly, grouping the most Quranic verses on theological realm referred by mutakallimîn. Secondly, explaining the views of each school (madhhab) of Islamic theology. Thirdly, discussing the assessments and interpretation of Abû al-Su‘ûd on theological verses and comparing them to al-Zamakhsharî’s interpretation. Based on these three steps the author will analyze the Ash‘arîyah theological pattern adhered by Abû al-Su‘ûd

    There have been a number of factors shaping and deter-mining the success of learning and mastering foreign langua-ges, including Arabic language. Along with learning activities to achieve excellent ability in comprehending Arabic language, language environment becomes another most essential factor. The existence of Arabic environment (bî’ah lughawîyah ʻArabîyah) beco-mes an exceptionally pivotal because it brings about what so-called “contextual learning activity” around the students. The article discusses the case of Mambaus Sholihin Islamic Boarding School which develops such language environment. The study shows that this Islamic educational institution has faced, however, several problems regarding inconsistent implementation of the language environment even though there have been numerous language instructors graduated from a number of universities in the Middle East and Indonesia as well as Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. Specifically, these are a number of problems as regards to the issue: 1) there has been no such an organizing team; 2) the students have no self-confidence to practice Arabic; 3) the human resources engaging in the implementation of the Arabic environ-ment have less motivation to earnestly run it; 4) bad influence of senior students to the new students; and 5) there has been no strong awareness to use Arabic for daily communication
