    Soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.) function as repellent and anti feedant. The objective of this research was to identify the effect of usingsoursop leaves a botanical insecticide to control termites. This research was carried out in two laboratories in Tanjungpura University, Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Wood Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Forestry from Februari 2013 to May 2013. This Research utilised two factor, factorial design with completely randomized design (CRD).The first factor is the weight of soursop leaves ( 0 g, 2 g, 4 gand 6 g). The second is the types of bait media such as sawdust, filter paper, and ground termite nest. Each treatment was done three times to eventually achive thirty six experimental units. Subterranean termites highest morality is found in the combination of 6 grams of soursoup leaf powder 6 g with 10 g filter paper as the bait medium. The average morality of this termite is 99.33 %. On the other hand, the treatment resulted in the lowest weight lost of bait media is the combination of 4 grams of soursoup leaf powder with 10 grams of sawdust, losing averagely 9.99% of bait media weight

    Cellulose is one of organic matters in the peat soil which was difficult to degrade. The degradation can be done enzymatically by cellulotic bacteria. The study was conducted from September 2012 to April 2013. The destination study was to determine genera of cellulotic bacteria which capable degrading the cellulose by the depreciation of crude fiber. The sampling plot was taken of Bansir Darat district in the Southeast Pontianak based on Wollum method. The bacteria were isolated by pour plate method and selected with cellulose hydrolysis method. Identification of bacterial isolates was adapted to Bergey’s manual. Plate count method was used in the enumeration of bacteria, while the level of cellulose degradation was measured using Datta method. Sugar reduction of each genus was measured by Nelson-Somogyi method. Isolation results were obtained 28 isolates, after selected based on selulotic activity index obtained three best isolates (BS20, BS19 and BS17) of 3.2, 2.2 and 2.2. The identification result of three isolates was belonged to the genus Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Nocardia by each of number density was 64.3 x 1012CFU/g, 42 x 1012CFU/g and 42.2 x 1012CFU/g. Cellulose can be degraded was 50%, 8% and 18%. Sugar reduction was produced respectively at 0.017%, 0.043% and 0.019%

    Mangrove forest is the habitat of various kinds of organisms, some of which are ferns (Pterydophyta). This study aim was to determine the types of ferns those can be found in mangrove forest of Peniti river estuary. The research was conducted from December 2013 to January 2014 in mangrove forest of Peniti river estuary in Segedong district of Pontianak regency. Cruise method was employed to collect ferns. There were 11 species of fern belonging to Polypodiopsida and 7 families. Acrostichum aureum and A. speciosum are mangrove fern in the area being studied

    Durian peel is identified to take a long period of time to decay or degradation, thus it requires a pretreatment to simplify the process of hydrolysis. This study aims to determine the condition of chemical physic composting using cow’s rumen liquor. The study used several concentrations and combinations of treatment. Parameters observed in this study include substrate temperature, moisture content, pH, Total Organic C, Total Organic N, and C/N ratio as well. The results obtained i.e. the average temperature of the substrate is 29,090C, the average moisture content of the substrate is 87.55%, and the average pH of the substrate is 7.82. The percentage change of the Organic C is 0.52% for the treatment of 30%. The percentage change of the Organic N is 36.76%. The Percentage change of C/N ratio is 41.36%. These results indicate a distinctive percentage value from various treatments with the highest concentration at 30% of cow’s rumen liquor on Organic C, Organic N as the control, and C/N ratio as well

    Laban (V. pubescens) is a bushy plant which has an herb stem. People, who live in the villages in West Borneo, use it to heal lower back pain and diarrhea. The aim of this research were to understand the secondary metabolites contained Laban fruit extract, which represented three different levels of its ripeness (raw, half-ripe, and ripe), and the antibacterial activity in Laban fruit extract to inhibit the S. thypi and         S. aureus growth. This research was done by using diffusion method. It confirmed the presence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoid, alkaloid, polyphenol, and terpenoid in Laban fruit extract. The antibacterial testing after an incubation of 48 hours showed that 100% concentration of half-ripe Laban fruit extract produced an inhibition zone diameter of 2,21 cm toward S. thypi, whereas the ripe Laban fruit extract produced inhibition zone diameter of  2,46 cm toward S. aureus, which categorized as very strong inhibition activity

    Medicinal plants are non-timber products frequently used by people around the forest. Dayak (local tribe) Seberuang compound in Sintang is in the forest area in Ensabang village in Sepauk sub-district. The increasing deforestation in West Borneo every year is threatening flora conservation which is potential to be medicinal plants; therefore, an effort to conserve it are needed. This paper aims to look at the kinds, the used and the process of making the plants used by Seberuang tribe in forest area in Ensabang village. This study took place from February 2013 to June 2013. The data was collected through survey and interviews people in three villages that are Sungai Jaung village, Sungai Tamang village and Tanah Kaya village. Respondents are selected using the method of snowball sampling starting from the chief of the tribe who then recommends other respondents. The result of the research shows that there are sixty (60) medicinal plants from thirty four (34) families. They are able to cure 31 (thirty one) diseases. The plants which are predominantly used are from Zingiberaceae family. Leaves of the plant are mostly used as the drugs. Medicinal plant habitat is mainly taken from the forest

    Penelitian mengenai kandungan sulfur dan klorofil pada thallus lichen Parmelia dan Graphis pada pohon peneduh jalan di Kecamatan Pontianak Utara Kalimantan Barat telah dilakukan dari bulan September 2011 sampai Nopember 2011. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kandungan sulfur dan klorofil pada thallus lichen Parmelia dan Graphis yang terdapat pada pohon peneduh jalan dengan tingkat kepadatan lalu-lintas yang berbeda. Pengambilan sampel ditentukan secara stratified cluster sampling berdasarkan tingkat kepadatan lalu lintas kendaraan bermotor dan jenis lichen (Parmelia sp. dan Graphis sp.). Parmelia memiliki luas penutupan tertinggi pada pohon peneduh di jalan padat lalu-lintas (0,47 cm2) dan Graphis memiliki luas penutupan tertinggi pada pohon peneduh di jalan sepi lalu-lintas (0,28 cm2). Parmelia memiliki kandungan sulfur tertinggi pada pohon peneduh di jalan padat lalu-lintas (4,70 ppm) dengan kandungan klorofil tertinggi di jalan sepi lalu-lintas (5,95 mg/g) dan Graphis memiliki kandungan sulfur tertinggi di jalan padat lalu-lintas (10,50 ppm) dengan kandungan klorofil tertinggi di jalan sepi lalu-lintas (0,71 mg/g).     Entomopathogenic fungi can be developed as pest termites control that are environmentally friendly. The aim of this research was to determine the types of entomophatogenic fungi that were isolated from Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren worker termite gut. This research has been done from April to July 2013. Termites C. curvignathus were collected from Arboretum area on Faculty of Forestry in Tanjungpura University Pontianak. Isolation were done in 10 worker termite's guts using direct planting method. This research obtained 3 genus of fungi namely: Aspergillus, Curvularia and Penicillium, two of them can be used as entomophatogenic fungi, namely Aspergillus and Penicillium

    This study was aimed to determine the effect of Vesicula Arbuscular Mycorrhizae (VAM) inoculum and phosphate fertilizer SP-36 on the growth of tomato plants (Lycopersicum esculentum, Mill.) on peat. The research was conducted in the Greenhouse and Laboratory of Microbiology of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Tanjungpura University for 3 months (October 2012 to January 2013). The research design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consisted of two factors with five replicates: first factor of VAM fungi : Mo (without fungi of VAM) and M1 (with fungi of VAM) and the second factor of phosphate fertilizer SP-36 : P0 (0 g / polybag), P1 (0,4 g / polybag), P2 (0,6 g / polybag), P3 (0,8 g / polybag), P4 (1 g / polybag). The result showed that the interaction of giving fungi of mikoriza and phosphate fertilizer had no significant effect on the growth of tomato plants. The treatment of P4 gave the highest average value on the parameter of observation of plant height 41,680 cm, leaf area 69,400 cm2, fresh weight top plants of tomato 3,028 g and dry weight top plants of tomato 0,233 g, fresh weight roots 0,143 g and dry weight roots 0,026 g

    Keanekaragaman cacing tanah pada suatu habitat dapat dipengaruhi oleh kondisi fisik kimia dan habitat tersebut. Penelitian mengenai keanekaragaman cacing tanah pada tiga tipe habitat di Kecamatan Pontianak Kota telah dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2012. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman cacing tanah di Kecamatan Pontianak Kota dan faktor lingkungan yang mempengaruhinya. Plot sampling ditentukan secara acak sebanyak 5 plot berukuran 5x5 m2 pada setiap lokasi. Sampling menggunakan metode kuadrat berukuran 30x30 cm2 dan hand-sorting. Komposisi cacing tanah tertinggi terdapat di kebun langsat dan lahan terlantar sedangkan yang terendah di persawahan. Genus Pontoscolex memiliki kepadatan tertinggi sedangkan yang terendah dari genus Pheretima. Keragaman jenis tertinggi terdapat di lahan terlantar (H=1,2438) karena memiliki vegetasi yang beragam dan rapat. Keragaman terendah ditemukan pada lahan persawahan (H=0,6931), hal itu terjadi salah satunya akibat pemakaian pupuk dan bahan kimia pertanian secara intensif
