    Secondary metabolites of lakum (Cayratia trifolia (L.) Domin) fruit have been evaluated in previous researches. The fruit contains flavonoids, terpenoids and phenols which have antioxidant properties. The aim of this research was to determine the hepatoprotective activity of methanolic extract of lakum fruit in Wistar rats’ liver induced by high doses of paracetamol. Ripe lakum fruits were macerated with methanol as the solvent. Thirty-five male Wistar rats (Rattus novergicus L.) were used in this research and devided into 7 groups (normal, negative, positive, solvent, 115 mg kg-1, 230 mg kg-1, and 345 mg kg-1 of lakum fruit methanolic extract). Results showed that the effect of 230 mg kg-1 of lakum fruit methanolic extract (central vein diameter: 40,20 ± 6,97 µm; sinusoid wide: 5,60 ± 0,94 µm; and liver weight: 6,33 ± 0,98 g) were similar to the effect of silymarin (central vein diameter: 42,99 ± 6,60 µm; sinusoid wide: 4,49 ± 0,44 µm; and liver weight: 6,58 ± 0,88 g) as the standard drug

    Nepenthes spp. is one of the ornamental plants in Indonesia that has much uniquenesses on its pitcher cup in shape and colour. The purpose of this research is to recognize the variety of morphometric characters and to know the grouping of Kantong Semar species (Nepenthes spp.) in Simpang Kasturi Village, Mandor District. The study was conducted for 3 months from October to December 2017 at Simpang Kasturi Village Forest, Mandor District. Identification, data processing, and the making of herbarium were done in Biology Laboratory of Biology Department, Mathematics and Natural Science Faculty of Tanjungpura University, Pontianak. The research method was done using the survey method following by sampling processes performed by taking samples of leaves, stems, and pitcher cup. Samples then were observed based on morphological characteristics of leaves, tendrils, stems and pitcher cup. Furthermore, collected data were analyzed using cluster analysis (grouping analysis) with SPSS 21 program. The results of this study found 5 individuals from 4 species of Nepenthes which have different morphometric characters among themselves. The most various morphological character among the species is the morphological character of the pitcher cup. Nepenthes rafflesiana has the largest pitcher cup size while Nepenthes gracilis has the smallest one size. Based on the coefficient value, the most significant grouping is Nepenthes rafflesiana with Nepenthes mirabilis, while the closest one is Nepenthes ampullaria 1 with Nepenthes ampullaria 2

    The majority of Ascomycetes is microscopic fungi while only a few are macroscopic ones. Microscopic Ascomycetes function as the decomposer in a forest ecosystem. This study aims to investigate types of Ascomycetes which grow in Bayur Forest, the Regency of Landak, West Borneo. This study has been conducted for four months from March to June 2017. The sample was taken by using Cruise Method. Ascomycetes were identified by matching morphological characteristics of the specimens with the identification book. The collected specimens then were made into wet and dry herbarium. The study shows that Ascomycetes have two Orders. They are Pezizales and Xylariales Orders. Moreover, they comprise three families namely Pyronemataceae, Sarcoscyphaceae and Xylariaceae and consist of six species of Ascomycetes. In addition, Ascomycetes found in Bayur Forest grow mostly on the substrate originated from dead trees

    This research was conducted to determine the effect of classical music, hard rock and murottal against to vegetative growing of red spinach plants. The research used a completely randomizes design with 4 treatments and 5 replicates. ANOVA result showed that music exposure had significant effect on plant growth. Murottal exposure gave optimal result on plant height 35,70 cm, leaf area 43,40 cm2, root length  9,40 cm, stomata porous length  23,00 µm, wet weigh 15,59 g, and dry weight of the plant 11,25 g. Exposure to hard rock music gives optimal results on the amount of leaf chlorophyll is worth 34,52 spad unit

    Nepenthes reinwardtiana Miq. is one of the species of Nepenthes found in west Borneo where its population in nature is declining. Ex-situ conservation efforts by cultivating vegetatively through stem cuttings need to be done to overcome the extinction of N.reinwardtiana. One of the factors that determines the growth of cuttings is the content of the external growth regulator namely auxin. One of the sources of organic auxin that can be used is goat urine. This research was conducted to find out the effects of goat urine on the growth of stem cuttings of N.reinwardtiana and to find out the concentration of goat urine that provides the best growth on N.reinwardtiana stem cuttings. The method used is completely randomized design with 4 treatments which is goat urine concentration of 0,15,30 and 40% , each treatment is repeated 3 times so that 12 units of experiment were obtained. The results show that immersion of goat urine has significant effect on the time of shoot, the number of roots and height of the plant but does not provide the number of shoots. Goat urine concentration of 15% produces that fastest shoot growth namely 11.23 days while the concentration of 30% gives the best result on the number of roots as many 2 pieces and the height of the plant namely 4.17 cm

    Watermelon plant (Citrullus vulgaris Schard.) is one of horticulture plants in Rasau Jaya 1 village, Kubu Raya regency, West Borneo. The symptomof the dignose sick watermelon is first found on its leaf. The objective of this research is to find types of fungi that are isolated from the diagnose sick leaf of watermelon (C.vulgaris Schard.) found in Rasau Jaya 1 village. This research took place from August until November 2017 in microbiology laboratorium, faculty of Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak. The isolated method used in this research is direct platting and dilution platting, and also indetification of fungi based on macromorphological and micromorphological characters. This research concludes that there are three types of symptoms of the diagnose sick leaf of watermelon, brownish black spotting, withering yellow and yellow spots. It is also found that there are eight types of fungi which are isolated from the diagnose sick leaf of watermelon fungi from the family of Aspergillus sp.(Dl1) species, Colletotrichum sp.(DI2), Fusarium sp.(Dl3), Fusarium oxsyporum (Dl4), Humicola sp.(Dl5), Macrophomoina sp.(Dl6), Penicillium sp.(Dl7), and Pythium sp.(Dl8)

    Mangrove forests grow on tropical coasts or embouchures with soft soils and are flooded by the tide. The purpose of this study was to investigate composition and destruction level of Mangrove forests vegetation in Sukadana Sub-District of Kayong Utara Regency. The sample was taken on June 2017 by employing single plot method. The findings indicate that at the time of sampling and adult, 7 types of mangrove vegetation are identified, specifically Acanthus ilicifolius, Acrostichum speciosum, Avicennia alba, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rhizophora apiculata, Ceriops decandra and Xylocarpus granatum are discovered at mangrove forests in Sukadana Sub-District of Kayong Utara Regency. The highest density of 780 trees/ha. Is found at Sutera Village at the stake phase and the lowest density of 128 trees/ha is located in the tree phase in Sejahtera Village. Diversity index (H’) of mangrove forest vegetation in Sukadana Sub-district is categorized as low to average (H’ = 0.57-1.28). Based on the total density of less than 1000 and the relative closure of less than 50% of the trees, therefore the extent of damage to mangrove forest vegetation in Kecamatan Sukadana Kayong Utara District is categorized as initial damage

    Pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr) is a vital horticulture product for its economic value and high nutritional value. One of the alternatives to reproduce pineapple is by a means of in vitro. It aims to produce a similar seed as its parent. Then, it can cater seed’s necessity for a large scale in a short time. This research aims at identifying the response of the addition of BAP and NAA towards the growth of the shoot crown of the pineapple and to figure out the best concentration of BAP and NAA for the shoot crown’s growth. The research was conducted for 5 months since February to July 2017 at tissue culture laboratory of Aloe Vera Centre Pontianak. The research applied a Completely Randomised Design (RAL) with a factorial pattern as the following factors. The first factor was BAP (B) with the concentrations of 0 M (B0), 10-7 M (B1), 10-6 M ( B2), 5×10-6 M (B3) and the second factor was NAA (N) 0 M (N0), 10-7 M (N1), 5×10-6 M (B2). Results show that the best concentration was 10-7 M BAP + 0 M NAA with the average rates of crown and leaves were 2 and 8.66 respevtively

    The availability  of nutrients in chicken carcasses can cause chicken meat to be an excellent medium for the growth of pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the bacterial genus in broiler chicken carcasses from supermarkets in Pontianak City. Based on the results of the study found 23 bacterial isolates in broiler chicken carcass samples from supermarkets in Pontianak City, which included members of the Aeromonas, Acetobacter, Alcaligenes, Amphibacillus, Bacillus, Brevibacterium, Camphylobacter, Carnobacterium, Erwinia,  Erysipelothrik, Eubacterium, Hafnia, Kluyvera, Klebsiella, Kurthia, Lactobacillus, Listeria, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Shigella, Sporolactobacillus, Serratia, and  Yersinia

    The use of plants as cosmetic ingredients has been utilized by the Dayak Kanayatn Tribe Society in Sebatih Village of Sengah Temila Sub-district of Landak Regency. The purpose of this study was to investigate species of plants, parts of plant, locations of plant, and value of informant agreement ratio of society understanding on the use of plants for natural cosmetic. This study was conducted for three months, from May to July 2017 in Sebatih Village of Sengah Temila Sub-district of Landak Regency. To determine the sample of study, purposive sampling was applied and semi-structured interview was employed to collect the data. Quantitative analysis of this study was operated by calculating frequency of citation, ratio of informant agreement, percentage of plants of plant, and the percentage of plant habitats. The findings indicate that Dayak Kanayatn Tribe Society in Sebatih Village utilize 16 plant species that embrace in 14 plant families for natural cosmetic. The utilization of plants for natural cosmetic is divided into 5 categories, particularly 2 plant species of bodycure, 7 plant species for facial, 1 plant species of healthy nails, 3 plant species for mounth clean and 5 plant species for hair treatments. Leaf is the main part of plants that is mainly used for cosmetic or approximately 43.75%. The highest value of citation frequency value in this study 100%, specifically areca nut (Areca catechu), henna (Impatiens balsamina), guava (Psidium guajava) and coconut (Cocos nucifera). Society’s level of understanding on the utilization plant for cosmetic, specifically for healthy nails achieve the highest value on informant agreement ratio (RKI), namely 1 and the lowest value of informant agreement rasio (RKI) is 0.96
