La transumanza in Abruzzo fra tarda antichità e medioevo

    Get PDF
ENGLISH: The paper investigates the phenomenon of transhumance in Abruzzo (central Italy), first of all the vertical one between the mountainous areas and the nearby plain, a phenomenon of pre-protohistoric origin. It also deals with the horizontal transhumance between Abruzzo and Apulia, developed in the late Republican age and up to the 6 th century, interrupted until the 8 th century, when it resumed in the context of the connections of large abbeys. From the 12 th century transhumance developed again, until the first introduction of a tax control on transhumant herds, in the Angevin period. The paper ends with the great reform of Alfonso II, who regulated in 1447 transhumance in the forms preserved until the 19th century

Artículo CientíficoThe archaeological Project of la Cobertoria has developed two main lines of research since 2015. One of these lines focuses on updating the Sites and Monuments Record (SMR) of Salas’ council with excavations and LiDAR analysis, in order to gather more information about unknown barrows or to find new data about the sites already included in the SMR. The second line focuses on how the excavations of remarkable barrows are a key point to understand the degree of implementation of the first prehistoric farming societies in central-western Asturias. With this purpose in mind, barrow number five of the San Juan cemetery, called la Cobertoria, has been excavated since 2016. This paper gathers the first results of this research, based on the analysis of the stratigraphies and the radiocarbon and TL datings. Several hiatus, as well as different architectural projects, had been found in la Cobertoria. They were carried out in a short prehistoric time frame: five centuries. The importance of the site goes beyond the prehistoric horizon and plunderers have been sacked the tomb since post Medieval times attracted by the legends and unique names concentrated in the area.

Objectives. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of physical activity on women during pregnancy and in the fetus. Methodology. A literature review has been conducted on the Cochrane Library, Medline, CINAHL, LILACS, Embase and Scopus databases that were published between January 2000 and May 2017. Which included the effects of a physical activity program on pregnant women and obstetric outcomes. The systematic review was based on the criteria of the review protocol Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA). Results. A total of 25 articles were reviewed in full text. Physical activity has positive effects on the pregnant woman showing a reduction in the risk of gestational diabetes (relative risk = 0.69, 95% confidence interval 0.52-0.91, p = 0.009), premature births and diseases chronic as diabetes, obesity and hypertension. Furthermore, Apgar scores at the minute and at 5 minutes improvement (95% interval confidence interval, 0.00 to 0.16, p = 0.063). Conclusions. Moderate intensity strength and resistance training programs favors the prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and hypertension, and in the fetus there is a decrease in premature births and an improvement in the adaptation of the fetus inside the uterus, with better Apgar scores.

On the quest for In Vitro Platelet Production by Re-Tailoring the Concepts of Megakaryocyte Differentiation

    No full text
The demand of platelet transfusions is steadily growing worldwide, inter-donor variation, donor dependency, or storability/viability being the main contributing factors to the current global, donor-dependent platelet concentrate shortage concern. In vitro platelet production has been proposed as a plausible alternative to cover, at least partially, the increasing demand. However, in practice, such a logical production strategy does not lack complexity, and hence, efforts are focused internationally on developing large scale industrial methods and technologies to provide efficient, viable, and functional platelet production. This would allow obtaining not only sufficient numbers of platelets but also functional ones fit for all clinical purposes and civil scenarios. In this review, we cover the evolution around the in vitro culture and differentiation of megakaryocytes into platelets, the progress made thus far to bring the culture concept from basic research towards good manufacturing practices certified production, and subsequent clinical trial studies. However, little is known about how these in vitro products should be stored or whether any safety measure should be implemented (e.g., pathogen reduction technology), as well as their quality assessment (how to isolate platelets from the rest of the culture cells, debris, microvesicles, or what their molecular and functional profile is). Importantly, we highlight how the scientific community has overcome the old dogmas and how the new perspectives influence the future of platelet-based therapy for transfusion purposesThis work is partially supported by a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship (RYC-2013-12587, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad–Spain) to L.G., an I+D Excellence Research Project (SAF2017-85489-P, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad–Spain–and Fondos FEDER) to L.G. and P.M.-B., a Severo Ochoa Grant (PA-20-PF-BP19-014) to P.M.-B. and a postdoctoral ISPA 2018 intramural fellowship to A.A.-H
