Objective: to determine the Nursing’s social image of the Asturian population. Methods: Multicentric descriptive study with quota sampling by self-administered questionnaire, conducted in the Principality of Asturias (Spain) between 11/01/2017 – 03/31/2018. It realizes an univariate analysis of the 8 social spheres and bivariant analysis with sociodemographic variables and relationship with Nursing. Results: We obtained a final sample of 335 questionnaires. Nursing is the second health profession best valued, behind Medicine. 80,9% associate us with a university career. Around 75% believe that Nursing is well trained and that their skills have improved in the last decade, as well as Specialist Nurses should only work in their specific area. 71,3% would not trust the Nurse’s prescription without consulting it with their doctor later. The Nurse’s main attributes are: vocation, responsibility and being skillful; as well as the functions of healing wounds, techniques and helping the doctor. The answers about stereotypes and salary are neutral. Conclusions: Although some results are better than previous studies, certain stereotypes and beliefs persist in the professional image. Therefore, we can’t stop working so population knows and recognizes us.Objetivo: determinar la imagen social que tiene la población asturiana de la Enfermería.

The receptor activator of nuclear factor jB ligand receptor leucine-rich repeat-containing G-protein-coupled receptor 4 contributes to parathyroid hormone-induced vascular calcification

Background. In chronic kidney disease, serum phosphorus (P) elevations stimulate parathyroid hormone (PTH) production, causing severe alterations in the bone–vasculature axis. PTH is the main regulator of the receptor activator of nuclear factor jB (RANK)/RANK ligand (RANKL)/osteoprotegerin (OPG) system, which is essential for bone maintenance and also plays an important role in vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) calcification. The discovery of a new RANKL receptor, leucine-rich repeat-containing G-proteincoupled receptor 4 (LGR4), which is important for osteoblast differentiation but with an unknown role in vascular calcification (VC), led us to examine the contribution of LGR4 in high P/high PTH–driven VC. Methods. In vivo studies were conducted in subtotally nephrectomized rats fed a normal or high P diet, with and without parathyroidectomy (PTX). PTX rats were supplemented with PTH(1–34) to achieve physiological serum PTH levels. In vitro studies were performed in rat aortic VSMCs cultured in control medium, calcifying medium (CM) or CM plus 10_7 versus 10_9MPTH. Results. Rats fed a high P diet had a significantly increased aortic calcium (Ca) content. Similarly, Ca deposition was higher in VSMCs exposed to CM. Both conditions were associated with increased RANKL and LGR4 and decreased OPG aorta expression and were exacerbated by high PTH. Silencing of LGR4 or parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTH1R) attenuated the high PTH–driven increases in Ca deposition. Furthermore, PTH1R silencing and pharmacological inhibition of protein kinase A (PKA), but not protein kinase C, prevented the increases in RANKL and LGR4 and decreased OPG. Treatment with PKA agonist corroborated that LGR4 regulation is a PTH/PKA-driven process. Conclusions. High PTH increases LGR4 and RANKL and decreases OPG expression in the aorta, thereby favouring VC. The hormone’s direct pro-calcifying actions involve PTH1R binding and PKA activation. This study was supported by Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII)—Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria (FIS 17/00715, FIS16/00637 and FIS 10/00896), Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER), Plan de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación 2013–2017 y 2018-2022 del Principado de Asturias (GRUPIN14-028, IDI-2018-000152), Fundación Renal Íñigo Álvarez de Toledo and ISCIII Retic REDinREN (RD06/0016/1013, RD12/0021/0023 and RD16/0009/0017 and RD16/0009/0007). One-pot two-step chemoenzymatic deracemization of allylic alcohols using laccases and alcohol dehydrogenases

    No full text
A series of enantioenriched (hetero)aromatic secondary allylic alcohols has been synthesized through deracemization of the corresponding racemic mixtures combining a non-selective chemoenzymatic oxidation (laccase from Trametes versicolor and oxy-radical TEMPO) and a stereoselective biocatalyzed reduction (lyophilized cells of E. coli overexpressing an alcohol dehydrogenase, ADH). Both steps were performed in aqueous medium under very mild reaction conditions. After optimization, a sequential one-pot two-step protocol was set up, obtaining the corresponding chiral alcohols in moderate to high conversions (48-95%) and enantiomeric excess (65->99% ee). Depending on the ADH stereopreference, both antipodes from these valuable chiral synthons could be prepared, even at preparative scale (119-178 mg), in a straightforward manner

La genesi storiografica di un nuovo Kunstlandschaft: l'arte medievale dell'Italia meridionale

    Get PDF
ENGLISH: The article deals with the beginning of historiography on medieval art in Southern Italy during the nineteenth century. This vast territory, which was politically independent from the rest of the Peninsula, remained on the sidelines of specialist studies at least until the thirties of the nineteenth century. The figure of Heinrich Wilhelm Schulz (1808-1855) is discussed in particular. His intellectual and historical background is attempted to reconstruct and his art-historical investigations, to be considered historical in a broad sense, are compared to the interest for the South that arose in Italy and Europe between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries

ENGLISH: The essay is based on an extensive analysis (for the years 1890-1925) of the correspondance network of Vittorio Fiorini, historian and cultural organizer. It describes the discussion of method and the progress of the new edition of “Rerum italicarum scriptores”, the great edition of Italian medieval chronicles published in the XVIIIth century by Ludovico Antonio Muratori
