No full textThe current state of preservation of the pyrotechnological structures in the Secano of the Alhambra is not always as clear as could be wished, owing to the aggressive and indiscriminate reconstructions to which they were subjected in the 1960s and 1970s. A better understanding of the structural features of these industrial facilities is essential for the overall understanding of the Nasrid and post-medieval industrial complexes and their integration in the madīna’s urban structure. In order to compile first-hand data about the existing remains, a two-stage programme was implemented (both in trenches 1 and 2 and in the remaining pyrotechnological structures scattered throughout the site). First, the extant structures were examined in detail, paying close attention to such characteristics as construction materials (brick, mortar) and construction techniques to ascertain the actual extent of medieval and post-medieval remains, and record them accordingly. These structures were examined stratigraphically in order to determine phases, reconstructions, and repairs, which can also be indicative of the industrial activities developed within them. Second, the furnaces and kilns were recorded photographically, prior to the production of photogrammetric 3D models, to allow for the remote examination of these structural eatures in great detail. Moreover, the 3D modelling was not limited to they rotechnological structures alone, but extended to the whole trenches, as an extra piece of information with which to examine the complex stratigraphy of both trenches

Changes in Bacterial Community Structure Across the Different Life Stages of Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens)
No full textThe digestive capacity of organic compounds by the black soldier fly (BSF, Hermetia illucens, Diptera: Stratiomyidae, Linnaeus, 1758) is known to rely on complex larva-microbiota interactions. Although insect development is known to be a driver of changes of bacterial communities, the fluctuations along BSF life cycle in terms of composition and diversity of bacterial communities are still unknown. In this work, we used a metabarcoding approach to explore the differences in bacterial diversity along all four BSF developmental stages: eggs, larvae, pupae, and adult. We detected not only significant differences in bacterial community composition and species richness along the development of BSF, but also nine prevalent amplicon single variants (ASVs) forming the core microbiota. Out of the 2010 ASVs identified, 160 were significantly more abundant in one of the life stages. Moreover, using PICRUSt2, we inferred 27 potential metabolic pathways differentially used among the BSF life cycle. This distribution of metabolic pathways was congruent with the bacterial taxonomic distribution among life stages, demonstrating that the functional requirements of each phase of development are drivers of bacterial composition and diversity. This study provides a better understanding of the different metabolic processes occurring during BSF development and their links to changes in bacterial taxa. The role of the archbishops is reconstructed. They were the main, but not exclusive, heirs of the complex of assets and rights pertaining to the ancient Exarchate, and the main actors in the redistribution of these resources, flanked by the most eminent lay and ecclesiastical subjects on the Ravenna scene. Ample space is given to the political and economic weight of the fiscal assets, widely present in the area, which preserved a persistent public label and remained constantly at the center of political competition, frequently changing hands
