The struggle for (self-)integration. Manuscripts, liturgy and networks in Verona at the time of Bishop Ratold (c. 802-840/3)
Between the 780s and the 840s the episcopal see of Verona was held by bishops coming from beyond the Alps, appointed by the Carolingian rulers and charged with control over a prestigious and strategically key bishopric. They were called upon to boost the communications between the local elites and the political and social machinery of the Carolingian world. In order to achieve that, they first had to negotiate their own integration in their new field of action, and to be acknowledged as effective political mediators between Verona and the rulers. The tools
they used to do that were, on the one hand, their own skills and previous experience, on the other, the centre for textual production, preservation and dissemination they found in Verona, that is, the cathedral scriptorium and library. The books that can be attributed to them allow
us to keep trace of the networks of relationships and cultural exchanges they developed, linking the two sides of the Alps. This paper focuses more specifically on the activities and endeavours of Bishop Ratold (c. 802-840/3). The liturgical and hagiographical manuscripts produced in
Verona in that period are examined as key markers of Ratold’s intellectual networks, and of the ways in which he used them for his own need for self-integration. They also provide elements casting light on the introduction and reception of the Carolingian cultural reforms in the kingdom

Canons, books of canons, and ecclesiastical judgments in Carolingian Italy: the Council of Mantua, 827
The long-running jurisdictional dispute between the patriarchs of Aquileia and Grado entered a period of particular activity in the 820s, culminating in a judicial decision in Aquileia’s favor at the Council of Mantua in 827. This council and its consequences offer fertile ground for exploring the ways that texts figured in ecclesiastical conflicts in ninth-century Italy. Recent work has shed light on the role hagiographical texts played in this dispute. This chapter examines another “textual” dimension: the role of canons and canon-law norms in arguments and decisions, in the “courtroom” and beyond. The chapter concludes with a brief discussion of a different case, from Lucca, that shows with particular clarity the close connection that could exist between canon law in the manuscripts and in legal practice

The documentation available to the medieval art historian working on the settlements of Dominican friars and nuns in the Iberian Peninsula includes numerous sources dating from the early modern period. Two questions need to be asked first in order to use this documentation properly: 1) To what extent does the state described in the early modern period reflect that of previous centuries? 2) How was this documentation produced, in what context and for what purpose? The article outlines a typology of both manuscript and printed early modern sources produced within the order that should be useful to the medieval art historian. It also attempts to analyse the way in which Dominican scholars looked at their ancient heritage. Although these sources rarely give us a formal approach to buildings or artworks, they very often document tombs as well as the topography of liturgical and devotional practices, as illustrated by several examples described here.

There are multiple relations of power and knowledge that are manifested and operate in the school, and these relations are closely linked to the construction of the subjects and the configuration of their subjectivities. Some of these relations are visible and very perceptible, while others go unnoticed. Consequently, it is necessary to investigate in detail in order to achieve the objective of bringing to light the procedures, devices and methods that are camouflaged, ignored or hidden in the gears of educational processes. Aspects such as discourse, language, the regime of truth, practices, culture, examination, discipline, pedagogy, management models, politics, ideology, curriculum, the influence of the media and the role of teachers are key to unravelling the actions, instruments and techniques that power and knowledge implement in order to shape the relationships between individuals and between subjects and themselves, as well as their impact on the shaping of different personalities and subjectivities.
Comparison of subsampling strategies for UAV-mounted subsurface radar imaging systems
This paper compares two subsampling strategies for UAV-mounted subsurface radar imaging systems, which feature non-uniform acquisitions that have an impact on the quality of the resulting radar image. The first method is based on selecting those samples that meet four conditions related to the UAV flight speed and stability. In contrast, the second relies on dividing the observation domain in a grid of cells, and selecting only a maximum of a given number of samples within each cell. The impact of both techniques on the image quality is assessed by means of measurements.Principado de Asturias / FICYT under grant “Ayudas para grupos de investigación de organismos del Principado de Asturias durante el período 2021-2023”, reference AYUD/2021/51706, and by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain under projects MILLIHAND (RTI2018-095825-B-I00) and META-IMAGER (PID2021-122697OB-I00), and by the Ministry of Universities of Spain and European Union (NextGenerationEU) under projects MU-21-UP2021-030-53519863 and MU-21-UP2021-030-71667225.2022 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meetin
