Controversie nello stabilimento del modo potenziale: Analisi testuale e traduttologica dell’espressione del futuro e dell’ipotesi in italiano e in spagnolo medievali
The potential mood has been a matter of long-standing controversy. In Italian
Studies, conditional verb forms have traditionally belonged to this category, frequently called the conditional mood, even when Alarcos Llorach includes future tenses in it, too.
Following the functionalist principles of Hispanic linguistics, Alarcos defends the position that the future should be included within the conditional mood. According to this innovative claim, in line with the ideas advocated by the linguist Pavao Tekavčić, Emilio Alarcos’ proposal has proved to be perfectly applicable to Italian. This is the reason why a contrastive perspective has been adopted. In this article, a close scrutiny of the first translation into Spanish of The Decameron aims to show the similarities and differences between the Spanish edition and the original Italian text. With the focus on the detailed study of the hypothetical
meaning of some verbal periphrases and modal adverbs, as well as on the values
of verb forms conjugated in the potential (both future and conditional tenses), the grammatical analysis will reveal the way in which Spanish and Italian, specifically 14th-century Tuscan, have, since the Middle Ages, shared a number of morphosyntactic characteristics, many of which have survived until today. A conclusion can be drawn from all of this: Italian and Spanish behave in the same way, except for one case relating to the use of the conditional. It must be noted that the conditional perfect in Italian is used in certain contexts to refer to facts that in Spanish are expressed in the conditional simple, since they are considered non-finite and, thus, aspectually non-perfect.
spagnola rispetto all‘opera originale italiana.
Crosspolar Optimization in Reflectarray Antennas for DBS missions
Current satellite applications for communications specify very tight cross-polarization values, usually with parameters such as the crosspolar discrimination (XPD) larger than 33 dB. To obtain these values, optimization of the cross-polarization performance has to be performed. The most common approach is to minimize the crosspolar component of the radiation pattern with regard to the copolar pattern in a subset of the visible region, corresponding to the coverage area. Nevertheless, this type of optimization provides suboptimal results since the figure of merit for cross-polarization performance (e.g. the XPD) is only optimized indirectly. Thus, in this work we propose to directly optimize the figure of merit to considerably improve the polarization purity of reflectarrays for satellite missions. For that purpose, the generalized intersection approach algorithm is employed in a very large reflectarray for a shaped beam application with European footprint. We show that directly optimizing the cross-polarization figure of merit provides better results than the usual approach of minimizing the crosspolar far field. This work was supported in part by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades under project TEC2017-86619-R (ARTEINE); by the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad under project TEC2016-75103-C2-1-R (MYRADA); by the Gobierno del Principado de Asturias/FEDER under Project GRUPIN-IDI/2018/000191; by the Gobierno del Principado de Asturias through Programa "Clarín" de Ayudas Postdoctorales / Marie Curie-Cofund under project ACA17-09; by Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte / Programa de Movilidad "Salvador de Madariaga" (Ref. La signoria rurale nell'Italia del tardo medioevo.
Decameron, II 2 narrates an amusing novella «di cose catoliche e di sciagure e d’amore» in which Boccaccio talks about significant religious matters, that could be summarized as follows. First of all, the manner in which God intervenes in the world seems to concede consideration to the theological knowledge of chump religious devotees: the main character of the novella, Rinaldo d’Esti, is an uncouth believer, but, in spite of this, his prayers are always granted. Secondary, the brigata ironically comments on saint Julian’s erotic power (which can be found also in previous comical works of the late middle age); the narrators also seem to be sceptic towards the thaumaturgical power of secular saints (a theme that recurs in the previous stories, I 1 e II 1). These two circumstances recommend prudence in judging the divine intervention in earthly events. In closing, when God looks like he’s operating in erotic matters (which is an unusual field, for Him), his action is characterized by uprightness
The sicilian author, Tommaso Chaula, wrote his Gestorum per Alfonsum Aragonum et Sicilie regem libri quinque at the beginning of the fifteenth century during that humanistic season that outlined a new way of understanding history: in the humanists’ works in fact began to appear the constant presence of a desire to celebrate the facts, which, thanks to a continuous application of rhetorical artifices, would have offered an ethical vision of history without neglecting the real reconstruction of the facts. The Gestorum libri are also part of the historiographical production dedicated to Alfonso V of Aragon, king of Naples from 1442 to 1458, who was remembered for his great magnanimity. With the textual analysis of some narrative passages of the work, it will be intended to show above all the power of historiographical discourse and therefore the power of the historiographer who through an artificial arrangement of words constantly pursues the attempt to prove the virtuous nature of Alfonso
