    Preparation of spray dried coamorphous solids to improve the solubility and dissolution rate of atorvastatin calcium

    Atorvastatin calcium (AC) is a statin drug used to lower cholesterol. Its crystalline form is usually found in the market with low solubility properties. The amorphization of crystalline AC is a technique used to increase its solubility howeverthe amorphous form has less thermodynamic stability. Therefore, to increase the solubility properties of its crystalline form, an AC coamorphous solid was prepared. This coamorphous solid was prepared using spray drying techniques, and coformers such as isonicotinamide (INA) and maleic acid (MA). Furthermore, characterization was carried out using powder X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, while the solubility properties test was conducted using the shake-flask and paddle method. The results showed that the spray-dried solids were coamorphous with single-phase homogeneous systems. Furthermore, the coamorphous solids, AC-INA and AC-MA were found to have a higher Tg than the melting points of other components, and formed intermolecular interactions between them. The higher Tg and presence of intermolecular interactions indicate that coamorphous solids are more stable than the amorphous form. Therefore, the results of the solubility and dissolution test showed that the coamorphous solid of AC-INA and AC-MA have better solubility properties compared to the AC crystalline form

    Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) is an activity of the building evaluation process with a focus on quality, operational performance and satisfaction of the occupants. The POE is important to evaluate completed and occupied buildings to identify weaknesses and potential for future improvement. To date, there have been various variations of POE instruments and tools to evaluate occupied buildings. However, the POE instrument for assessing high-rise housing constructed using the industrialized building system (IBS) method has not been developed specifically. In this regard, this study aims to discuss the construction of an effective POE instrument to measure the quality and performance of high-rise housing built using the IBS method. For this purpose, the 3 round Delphi method was adapted by involving 15 experts selected based on their background and experience related to IBS. The results of a three-round Delphi study found that 33 out of all sub-constructs were dropped because of low mean scores (<4.2 in two rounds) while 75 sub-constructs were identified as final items. The results of the Delphi study also found that all 10 constructs were 1) Spatial2) Design and aesthetics3) Physical4) Building materials5) Quality of work6) Comfort and well-being7) Environment and health8) Maintenance9) Value and 10) Cost is the most significant construct for developing PPP instruments. Accordingly, an effective Post-Occupancy Assessment Instrument for measuring the quality, performance and value of a home built using the IBS method should include all of these constructs

    Taguchi orthogonal design for optimizing a unified ternary process to valorize oil palm leaves for nanocellulose isolation

    Oil palm leaves (OPL), as the major component of oil palm biomass, was capitalized for the isolation of nanocellulose (NC) by unified ternary acoustic, chemical- and enzyme-assisted techniques. This study aimed to statistically optimize the extraction parameters via the Taguchi Design for sonication time, duration of enzymatic hydrolysis, the concentration of acid, and the duration of acid hydrolysis, for the highest crystallinity of the isolated NC. The optimum condition required a sonication duration of 20 min, 1 h of acid hydrolysis in 6 M of H2SO4 and 1 h of enzymatic hydrolysis that resulted in the production of NC with a maximum 68.2% crystallinity index, based on X-ray diffraction (XRD) data. Duration of sonication time and acid hydrolysis was crucial for improving the crystallinity of isolated NC. The reduced C=O and C=C peaks at 1734 cm-1 and 1536 cm-1, respectively, in the Fourier-transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra of isolated NC, confirmed the removal of appreciable amounts of hemicellulose and lignin components in the OPL fibers. FESEM micrographs revealed the needle-like structures of NC with diameters between 21?24.8 nm. The NC isolation approach presented here offers a promising avenue to ease the use of harsh acids for biomass pretreatment

    Pada masa kini, tidak diketahui sejauh mana Mahkamah Syariah di Malaysia mengendalikan kes-kes jenayah Syariah yang membabitkan Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU). Akta dan Enakmen Tatacara Jenayah Syariah Negeri-negeri tidak memperincikan tatacara perbicaraan yang tertentu bagi kes-kes jenayah Syariah membabitkan OKU. Ketiadaan satu tatacara perbicaraan khusus menimbulkan kebimbangan tentang penjagaan hak-hak OKU semasa perbicaraan kes-kes jenayah Syariah. Sehubungan dengan itu, kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk menganalisis literatur mengenai tatacara perbicaraan kes jenayah Syariah bagi OKU di Mahkamah Syariah. Kajian kualitatif ini menggunakan kaedah analisis dokumen dan temu bual pakar iaitu Hakim Mahkamah Syariah dan Pegawai Penyelidik Mahkamah Syariah. Analisis literatur sangat penting untuk mendapatkan gambaran menyeluruh mengenai perkembangan Undang-undang Tatacara Jenayah Syariah dan isu-isu dasar yang berlaku antara golongan OKU dan mahkamah Syariah. Kajian ini juga penting kerana ianya selari dengan hasrat kerajaan melalui Pelan Tindakan OKU 2016-2022 dalam menggalakkan penyelidikan dan pembangunan OKU untuk usaha penambahbaikan dalam segenap aspek termasuk sistem perundangan Syariah. Dapatan kajian mendapati golongan OKU menghadapi halangan berbentuk fizikal, sosial dan budaya ketika proses perbicaraan. Sehubungan dengan itu, wujud keperluan untuk mengkaji perundangan Syariah semasa di Malaysia bagi menjunjung keadilan dan pemeliharaan hak-hak mereka.     This paper discusses the development of an aided augmentative alternative communication (AAC) web-based system to assist speech delayed children between the age of four to nine years old that incorporates the gamifications techniques. The aim is to provide a set of strategies and techniques that can be used to support communications for children with communication needs. The research methodology used to develop the AAC web-based system with gamifications start with the preliminary investigation, proposing the framework of the prototype system that consists of two main modules, which are the speech recognition and spell session modules, design and development of the system and usability evaluation. The results of the usability testing that has been conducted to thirty speech delayed children showed that the ACC web-based system with gamifications have been proven satisfactory to support and assist speech delayed children in improving their speech and language learning
