    No full text
Abstract Practice in Mind (PIM) training help to resolve physical and psychological problem in sport skills performance. Therefore, the present study was done to investigate the effectiveness of PIM training on netball standing shot and jump shot performances. Twenty state level netball shooters with 3 to 5 years playing experiences participated in this experimental study. Participants were randomly assigned into PIM training group and control group with 10 participants for each group. Both groups completed 18 training sessions in 3 times a week for 6 weeks intervention program. Pre, post, and retention test were conducted prior to the 10 standing and jump shooting task. The results revealed that there was significant different of PIM training group versus control group for both standing shot (p < .05) and jump shot (p<.05) after 6 weeks. However, no significant different was observed after retention (week 12) for both groups. Based on the finding, it is suggested this present study will be beneficial to the athletes in terms of educating them about the importance of systematic imagery training to increase shooting performance in netball and for further improvement on their shooting techniques. Future studies are warranted to explore potential benefits of PIM training by focusing on a larger exposure and other netball specific motor-abilitie

Knee tuberculosis: a challenge in diagnosis and treatment

    No full text
Tuberculosis (TB) is an ancient disease dated back from ancient Greece time. Once rare in developed countries, now it has re-emerged due to immigration and secondary immunodeficiency. A 27-year-old lady had left knee pain for the past 4 years, went for knee diagnostic arthroscopy procedure, and diagnosed as pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) of the left knee. Despite regular analgesics and physiotherapy, patient symptoms worsen. Two years after the initial treatment, the patient went for a further workout and diagnosed as knee tuberculosis, commenced on anti-TB treatment, the patient still left complicated with a stiff knee and fixed flexion deformity. Identification of knee tuberculosis during the initial phase is crucial as late diagnosis and treatment will leave the patient with debilitating complications

Changes in the urinary metabolites in losartan-treated spontaneously hypertensive rats

    No full text
Introduction: This study examined the association of losartan induced changes in urinary metabolomic profile with the changes in blood pressure (BP) and renin-angiotensinaldosterone system (RAAS) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Methods: Male SHR were administered with either 0.5 mL of distilled water (control group, n=6) or 10 mg.kg-1 of losartan (group 2, n=6) daily by oral gavage for 4 weeks. Body weight, BP, food and water intake were measured weekly. At week 4, urine was collected for urinary electrolyte analysis and metabolite profiling, after which the animals were euthanised by decapitation and blood was collected for analysis of components of RAAS and electrolyte concentrations. Urine metabolite profile of SHR was determined using proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1H-NMR) spectrometry combined with multivariate data analysis. Results: At week 4, losartan-treated SHR had significantly lower BP than non-treated SHR. There were no differences in water and food intake, body weight, serum and urinary electrolyte concentrations or in their urinary excretions between the two groups. No differences were evident in the components of RAAS except that the angiotensinogen level was significantly higher in losartan-treated SHR compared to non-treated SHR. Orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLSDA) showed clear separation of urinary metabolites between control and losartan-treated SHR. Losartan-treated SHR group was separated from the control group by changes in the intermediates involved in glycine, serine and threonine metabolism. Conclusion: Antihypertensive effect of losartan in SHR seems to be associated with changes in urinary metabolite profile, particularly involving the metabolism of glycine, serine and threonine

A rare presentation of solitary ocular sarcoidosis

    No full text
Ocular sarcoidosis leads to inflammation of the eye, manifesting as uveitis, scleritis and conjunctivitis with granuloma formation. It can involve any part of the eye and its adnexal tissues, and may result in complications like glaucoma and cataract. Ophthalmic manifestations of sarcoidosis can be isolated, or it may be associated with other organs of the body. The clinical presentation in ocular sarcoidosis is quite varied. Multi-disciplinary modality of treatment is required for both ocular and systemic manifestations of the disease. We report a rare presentation of solitary ocular sarcoidosis in a 42-year-old woman, who presented with complaints of painless left inner canthus swelling and blurry vision for 1 month

Pemerkasaan pelaksanaan sulh dalam kes tuntutan hartanah orang Islam di mahkamah syariah di Malaysia

    No full text

Fair and fit resource allocation algorithm for network-controlled device-to-device (D2D) communication

    No full text
Device-to-device (D2D) communication is a promising new feature for next generation cellular networks. However, enabling D2D communications in a cellular network presents a challenge in resource allocation due to the spectrum sharing with the cellular users which cause interference. The previous works in D2D resource allocation focused on improving the throughput of the overall network while completely ignoring the fairness aspect. Therefore, such issues can be managed if radio resource is assigned intelligently with the coordination from the eNodeB (eNB). In this paper, a Fair and Fit Resource Allocation (FFRA) algorithm is proposed which exploits the path loss experienced by the potential D2D user equipments (UEs) when choosing the communication path. Then, D2D UEs were scheduled using proportional fair (PF) packet scheduler. PF scheduler was developed to improved on the throughput and guarantees fairness among the flows. The FFRA scheme was applied in two communication scenarios, namely in a single D2D UE and multiple D2D UEs. OMNET++ discrete event simulator together with INET and SimuLTE framework are the platforms used to conduct the simulation. Simulation results show that, the FFRA algorithm outperform Max C/I and RR with 32.73% and 38.67% increased in total throughput while achieving excellent performance of fairness as the number of D2D UEs increases in the networks. In addition, the FFRA algorithm contributes to the lowest delay and packet loss amongst the algorithms
