: Due to the increased shifts in recent technologies, the education sector has also started to reshape itself to face the future. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are among the few recent trends that drive this shift forward. This study was set to study the impact of pairing a video lecture course with an AR presentation. A class of multimedia students (N=33) from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Indiaunderwent an experiment of watching a video lecture module and attending a quiz. The same class again went through a similar test where they had to watch video lectures, get to experience what they learned in Augmented Reality for 10minutes, and then appeared for the quiz. The paired t-test conducted on the two sets of scores obtained by the class indicates a statistically significant increase in the average final scores when AR experience is paired with the video lectures. The feedback from the students was also positive on the AR experience

    No full text
Speech acts are a way to conceptualize speech as an action. Speech act of flaming is an utterance that expresses insultsswearingand hatefulintense language in hostile online interaction. Flaming is an expressive speech act and often leads to the trading of insults between members within a certain conversation. Social media is one of the platforms that has been used to express, comment and voice out emotions. In this study, the speech act of flaming in a Twitter status will be analysed based on the Malaysian context. The data of this study is a compilation of Twitter statuses consisting of 2.5 million words and is labelled as Malaysian Twitter Status Context corpus (MTSC). The tweets were analysed based on 14 subcategories of flaming (Bansal, Nittin, Siddhartha, Kapil, Anuj, Sheenu, Kanika, Kunal, Kunal, Manav, 2012 and Revathy & Norizah, 2017). This study adopted the qualitative approach through contextual analysis. Findings of this study showed that flaming in Malaysian context can be direct or intentionaland indirect based on the intentions (illocutionary force) to offend other tweeters. Findings of this study show that language usage among youngsters specifically the tweeters are not in line with the values and ethics that have been practiced in our culture and society

Automation of Quranic readings gathering process

    No full text
Quran has been the focus of many computer science and computational linguistics researchers. However, little contribution was directed towards Quranic readings. This field focuses on the different ways in which Quranic words can be recited. Quranic Readings Gathering is a recitation process that is well-known by the specialists in this field. In this process, all the possible ways of reading a verse are covered in a compact well-structured manner. To the best of the author\u27s knowledge, no computational automation was cited for this process in literature. In this paper, this process is algorithmically formulated and a developed software system is presented to automate this process. This system takes the Quranic verse text as input and generates a text file containing the detailed gathering of the readings of this verse as done by a specialized reciter. The system was applied to the verses of Surat-Al-Baqara and the output text was carefully validated against authentic books in this field. This system can be the basis for software systems for teaching and vocal construction of quranic readings gathering. This would be useful for students that are interested in Quranic Readings

Computationally efficient path planning algorithm for autonomous vehicle

    No full text
This paper analyses an experimental path planning performance between the Iterative Equilateral Space Oriented Visibility Graph (IESOVG) and conventional Visibility Graph (VG) algorithms in terms of computation time and path length for an autonomous vehicle. IESOVG is a path planning algorithm that was proposed to overcome the limitations of VG which is slow in obstacle-rich environment. The performance assessment was done in several identical scenarios through simulation. The results showed that the proposed IESOVG algorithm was much faster in comparison to VG. In terms of path length, IESOVG was found to have almost similar performance with VG. It was also found that IESOVG was complete as it could find a collision-free path in all scenarios
