Determinants of credit risk: Evidence from Commercial Banks in Malaysia

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between microeconomic factors with credit risk among selected commercial banks in Malaysia. For this purpose, a sample of seven out of 27 commercial banks in Malaysia was selected and the microeconomic factors affecting credit risk with six measurements of return on asset (ROA), bank size, leverage, the ratio of capital, interest income and return on equity (ROE) were examined by applying Panel Regression Fixed Effect (FE) Model for a period 20 years from 1998 to 2017. The scope of the study covers seven selected commercial banks in Malaysia namely: Affin Bank Berhad, Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad, CIMB Bank Berhad, Hong Leong Bank Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, Public Bank Berhad and RHB Bank Berhad. This study is using credit risk proxy by non-performing loan for dependent variable while independent variables that have been selected were returned on asset (ROA), bank size, leverage, the ratio of capital, interest income and return on equity (ROE). The findings of the study managed to reject the null hypothesis for return on asset, bank size, leverage, interest income and return on equity which indicates the five microeconomic variables give a significant relationship with credit risk. There are positive relationships between leverage, interest income and return on equity with credit risk while return on asset, bank size and ratio of capital are negatively related to credit risk. However, the study fails to find any significant relationship between the ratio of capital and credit risk for commercial banks in Malaysia

Kesan integrasi kelakuan kumpulan pengurusan atasan ke atas ketangkasan organisasi di Malaysia: Kapasiti penyerapan sebagai pemboleh ubah pengantara

    No full text

Dynamic probability selection for flower pollination algorithm based on metropolis-hastings criteria

    No full text
Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) is a relatively new meta-heuristic algorithm that adopts its metaphor from the proliferation role of flowers in plants. Having only one parameter control (i.e. the switch probability, pa) to choose from the global search (i.e. exploration) and local search (i.e. exploitation) is the main strength of FPA as compared to other meta-heuristic algorithms. However, FPA still suffers from variability of its performance as there is no one size that fits all values for pa, depending on the characteristics of the optimisation function. This paper proposed flower pollination algorithm metropolis-hastings (FPA-MH) based on the adoption of Metropolis-Hastings criteria adopted from the Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm to enable dynamic selection of the pa probability. Adopting the problem of t-way test suite generation as the case study and with the comparative evaluation with the original FPA, FPA-MH gave promising results owing to its dynamic and adaptive selection of search operators based on the need of the current search

Numerical simulations and experimental studies on the formability of drawing quality steel in single point incremental forming

    No full text
Based on numerical simulation and experimental studies the process parameter optimization on the formability using a 1 mm thickness Drawing Quality Steel(CR2) in Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF)was studied. The sample shape chosen was the hayperbolic cone and fabricated using different parameter leveles. A model of numeric simulation was developed in ABAQUS explicit and then experimentally verified using a CNC milling machine. The influence of three significant control factors, namely tool radius, feeding rate, and step depth on the formability was studied. Optimization of process parameters was conducted using the L9 Taguchi orthogonal array. For optimal formability, to assess the optimum combination of process parameters, a signal noise (S/N) ratio was used. The percentage contribution of the method parameters to formability was determined by the Study of Variance (ANOVA). The findings of the study indicated that the depth of the step followed by feed rate and tool radius, was the dominant factor influencing formability. Furthermore, a good agreement (<8% error) between the numerical simulation and experimental study was seen. The study based on the Taguchi configuration of the study shows that at a feed rate (A2) 1000 mm/min, with tool radius (B1) 8 mm, and with step depth (C2) 0.8 mm, the optimal conditions for maximum formability were achieved

Production of lipid and carbohydrate in tetradesmus obliquus UPSI-JRM02 under nitrogen stress condition

    No full text
Nitrogen stress condition is believed to increase the production of lipid in microalgae, but the synthesis of both lipid and carbohydrate is less known. Therefore, the effect of nitrogen stress condition on the synthesis of lipid and carbohydrate of Tetradesmus obliquus UPSIJRM02 was studied in a 2 L bioreactor system. The highest lipid and carbohydrate yields achieved under nitrogen stress condition were 37% and 23%, respectively. Nitrogen stress condition induced the accumulation of carbohydrate at early stage but started to reduce on day 4 when the carbon shifted towards lipid production. The fatty acid profile produced under nitrogen stress condition was composed of 54% polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), 43% saturated fatty acid (SFA) and 3% monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA). The biofuel properties of T. obliquus obtained under the nitrogen stress condition was within the range of biodiesel standard and is most suitable for the usage in cold country

Architectural characteristics of Malay traditional houses through decorative elements : a comparison between Perak limas\u27 house (PLH) and Johor limas\u27 house (JLH)

    No full text
Malay Traditional houses were classified based on roof design, spatial organization, construction method, geographical setting and decorative elements particularly at every state in Malaysia. This article analyzes decorative elements on the traditional Malay houses in two statesPerak Limas\u27 House (PLH) in Perak and Johor Limas\u27 House (JLH) in Johor. The research aim is to establish the architectural characteristics of both PLH and JLH. This can be achieved by identifying the existence of decorative elements and carrying out a comparative study on both PLH and JLH on the decorative elements as the main architectural characteristic. Twenty-five of PLH and JLH were selected for the study. The study found similarities and dissimilarities that contribute to the extension of aesthetical theory of the Malay traditional house in Malaysia. The findings established the architectural attributes of traditional houses in Perak and Johor through decorative elements
