Malaysia is not only known as a multi-cultural country, but it is also known for
its specialized heritage where tourists can find varied food from different
cultures in Malaysia. Given that Malaysia is home to several ethnic groups
stemming from roots in the colonial period in which hundreds and thousands of
immigrants who migrated to what was Malaya before, in search of an honest
living in a prosperous country. Food heritage is a term that encompasses the
origin of plants and animals, and their dispersal at sites where people first
cultivated domesticated plants and animals, and the first places where people
first treated, prepared, sold and ate that food. This study was conducted to
investigate the acceptance of international tourists towards Malaysian heritage
food choices from the different ethnicities of Malay, Chinese and Indian, who
represent the largest ethnic groups in Malaysia. Comparing these results is
useful because it can provide an initial picture of tourist acceptance. The results
of the study may be used to promote the choices of heritage food as an addition
to other tourism products as a catalyst to generate business and stimulate the
local economy
DNA methylation of human choline kinase alpha gene
Increased level of choline kinase (CK) is a common feature in cancers and inhibition of this enzyme has been applied as anticancer strategy. DNA methylation of gene promoter especially at CpG island is associated with suppression of gene expression. Despite the importance of CK especially the alpha isoform in cancer pathogenesis, epigenetic regulation of ck? expression has not been investigated. Hence, this study aimed to determine the effect of DNA methylation on ck? promoter activity and gene expression by using hypomethylating (5-aza) and methylating (budesonide) agents. The level of DNA methylation in the second CpG island of ck? promoter was determined by PCR-based method. 5-aza and budesonide increased the methylation of the selected CpG island compared to untreated control. Treatment with the drugs produced opposite effect, with 5-aza induced ck? promoter activity and gene expression while budesonide suppressed the promoter activity and mRNA level of this gene. Deletion of a region containing the second CpG island on ck? promoter resulted in significantly lower promoter activity. In conclusion, this study showed that DNA methylation could be one of the mechanisms that regulate the expression of ck? gene
Thermal marangoni flow past a permeable stretching/shrinking sheet in a hybrid Cu-Al2 O3 /water nanofluid
The present study accentuates the Marangoni convection flow and heat transfer characteristics of a hybrid Cu-Al2 O3 / water nanofluid past a stretching/shrinking sheet. The presence of surface tension due to an imposed temperature gradient at the wall surface induces the thermal Marangoni convection. A suitable transformation is employed to convert the boundary layer flow and energy equations into a nonlinear set of ordinary (similarity) differential equations. The bvp4c solver in MATLAB software is utilized to solve the transformed system. The change in velocity and temperature, as well as the Nusselt number with the accretion of the dimensionless Marangoni, nanoparticles volume fraction and suction parameters, are discussed and manifested in the graph forms. The presence of two solutions for both stretching and shrinking flow cases are noticeable with the imposition of wall mass suction parameter. The adoption of stability analysis proves that the first solution is the real solution. Meanwhile, the heat transfer rate significantly augments with an upsurge of the Cu volume fraction (shrinking flow case) and Marangoni parameter (stretching flow case). Both Marangoni and Cu volume fraction parameters also can decelerate the boundary layer separation process
Integrating green affective values and material selection in automotive design: A preliminary study.
Effect of including periodic boundary condition on the fatigue behaviour of cancellous bone.
Trabecular bone consists of complex webbing of plates and struts, in which the properties vary across anatomical sites. The substantial constraint is the reduction on discretization error will reduce time in computation. So it is significant to consider carefully the boundary condition effects when utilizing such a complex multiaxial loading mode. Additionally, multiaxial loading gives distinct effects towards boundary condition compare to uniaxial whereas percentage prediction of fatigue failure is lower and applying of periodic boundary reflect a more precise real loading condition. 3D models of trabecular samples were constructed for FE simulations. The response of the models towards simulated mechanical loading was investigated. Preparation of the models begins with 3D reconstruction of micro-CT stacked images, follows by segmentation, meshing and refurbishing process. The resistance of trabecular bone deformation to loading in both uniaxial and multiaxial modes improved the fatigue life and failure with application of periodic boundary conditions
Sand injectites in the West Crocker Formation, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Sand injectites are common in the turbidite sequences of the West Crocker Formation (Eocene-Oligocene) but their occurrences have never been reported. This paper describes sand injectites and related deformational structures from outcrops of West Crocker around Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The injectites range in scale from millimetres to metres, occurring in the interbedded sandstone-mudstone facies. They are usually found in thickly-bedded massive sandstone facies that comprise mainly Bouma Ta/Tb divisions. This facies type is characterized by dewatering features such as dish and pipe structures and represents parts of the sedimentary system that are prone to overpressure buildup. The injectites are thought to have been formed by the sudden release of overpressure in the water-charged turbiditic sediment at shallow burial depths, possibly triggered by seismic shock or gravitationally induced failure/slumping up-dip of the depositional site. The injectites occur in various forms, including dykes, sills and pipesthe latter representing major conduits for vertical fluid movement and sediment remobilization through the turbidite sequences. The common occurrence of injectites in the West Crocker Formation suggests that they may also be present in the Neogene deepwater sequences offshore West Sabah. Outcrop studies on these features may help predict their presence and distribution in the subsurface and assess their possible impact on reservoir distribution, heterogeneity and connectivity
Point absorber method as wave energy convertor device for power generation: Effect of buoy arrangements.
A point absorber is a floating structure with components that move relative to each other due to wave action. They utilize the up and down movement of the wave height at a single point for energy conversion. The relative up and down which is bobbing motion caused by passing waves used to drive electro mechanical energy converters to generate power output. This experiment investigates behaviour of the point absorber device used the pneumaticsensortotakethefrequencyofthedisplacementofbuoywhiletestinginthewavemakergenerator. Then, study the efficiency power output of point absorber WEC device and studies the behaviour of the point absorber in a regular wave. Fabricate the linear generator which as power absorption to estimate the effectiveness power output on different configuration by using the multimeter device. The point absorbe rat the front position of the configuration has good behaviour because of the high frequency produced. By estimated the behaviour of the device on configuration achieved.Configuration shape design of the point absorber used in this testing is square, diamond and parallelogram shape for anestimate the best power output. The configuration of the parallelogram has the best power output compared to another configuration. The best arrangement of the device for efficiency by measure the output voltage as power output is 68.14 mV and increase 8% in every minute
