Pencegahan dadah dalam kalangan belia berisiko melalui elemen penghayatan akidah

    No full text

The determinants of house prices in Malaysia

    No full text
This paper studied how house prices were affected by macroeconomic factors from Q1 2009 to Q4 2018. The short and long-run effects of real income, nominal interest rates, inflation rate and stock prices on house prices in Malaysia were examined with the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) of a restricted error correction model (ECM). It was discovered that the selected macroeconomic factors were co-integrated with house prices. Income, represented by real Gross Domestic Product (GDP), significantly affected house prices in the short and long-run. Inflation and interest rate, proxied by Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Overnight Policy Rate (OPR), respectively, affected house prices significantly in the long-run. The stock market, tracked by Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI), had no significant impact on house prices signifying no wealth effect. Through the findings of an inelasticity of demand and an undesirable result of monetary policies, this paper concluded that more effective solutions needed to be carried out to ensure affordability of house ownership in Malaysia

In addition to heart disease, other Malaysian extensive illnesses are mental health disorders. 29.2 per cent of Malaysians have recently suffered from mental illness, which has increased threefold compared to the previous year. The lowest income group accounts for the bulk of Malaysians suffering from mental illness. Currently, Singapore list among the countries has operative providing mental health insurance together with Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Malaysia is still far behind on offering mental health coverage with such a scheme only provided by AIA Malaysia. Therefore, through the takaful product, the purpose of this study is to address the risk of mental health disorders by hybrid takaful. The paper concluded that in order to maintain the promoting coverage and minimizing damage to mental health patients to human well-being, takaful mental health is needed in Malaysia market. In addition, this research would provide insight into the takaful industry for the development of a new and competitive product that could assist patients with a mental health disorder

Factors for financial restatements: Case of public listed companies in Malaysia

    No full text
This study examines the factors that influence the occurrences of financial restatements among public listed companies (PLCs) in Malaysia. This study focuses on PLCs that were listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia for the financial year of 2005 until 2014 as its sample. On average, restatement companies were found to have paid slightly lower client fees, lower non-audit services (NAS) provision, and have a smaller size of the audit committee compared to non-restatement companies. In addition, it was also found that nonrestatement companies choose to hire the Big 4 audit firms. The logistic regression analysis however have revealed that client fees, NAS provision, and the size of audit committee will not influence occurrences of financial restatements. In contrast, the types of auditors have a significant association with incidences of financial restatement. This study reports a negative relationship between the types of auditors and the occurrences of financial restatements. The results of this study could act as a guidance and provide assistance to regulators and policymakers (Bursa Malaysia and Securities Commission) in an attempt at improving existing regulations and guidelines related to financial restatements

Study of wall static pressure distribution on flat surface by impinging submerged jet from non-circular orifice

    No full text
The distribution of wall static and stagnation (CP and CPO) pressure coefficient on a flat rectangular element by impinging air jet from the hexagonal orifice is obtained from experimentation. The past research studies helped to identify key parameters such as orifice geometry, jet exit-to-plate-distance (Z/dj), test section inclination (?), jet Reynold number (Re), lateral distance-to-jet diameter (X/dj), test surface type and geometry, for better and acceptable results. The experimental outcome helps to know the effect of identified key parameters on wall static and stagnation pressure on a rectangular test plate in a confined flow path. The independent nature of wall static pressure is observed for all jet Reynold number (10000 ? Re ? 50000). Higher pressure coefficient values were observed at lower Z/dj = 1, X/dj = 0 and ? = 0. A significant drop in CP values are seen with the increase in Z/dj, X/dj and ?. The experimental CP and CPO contribution of confined flow are compared against the unconfined flow, around 48% to 58% enhancement is observed when confinement is used. Experimental pressure drop measurements across orifice were made and pressure loss coefficient (PC) for hexagonal orifice of confined and unconfined condition are reported

Understanding the Dynamics of English in the Linguistic Landscapes of Guangzhou

    No full text
Linguistic landscape is a study field covering all linguistic objects in public spaces. It provides an important perspective for investigating the dynamics of social life and language change in given territories. Guangzhou, a significant commercial center in southern China, is renowned for its globalized development. With the growth of globalization, the increasing intrusion of English and the emerging English varieties have occurred in the urban linguistic landscapes of Guangzhou City. Therefore, this descriptive qualitative study collected English usage in the public sphere by taking pictures of private signs in two commercial centers. Monolingual and bilingual public signage displayed in public spaces shows that English has been an important foreign language widely used in Guangzhou\u27s cityscape. Meanwhile, the use of English in Guangzhou is somewhat affected by local languages, a phenomenon called glocalization. The misuse of English, code-mixing between Chinese and English, and emerging English varieties are the product of glocalization. This study can shed light on the present linguistic situation of English in Guangzhou. Additionally, it provides evidence for the development process of glocalized English and translanguaging practice in southern Chinese communities

Swallowing involves 55 muscles, five cranial nerves and two cervical nerve roots. When the coordination of this reflex is disturbed, dysphagia occurs. Dysphagia refers either to the difficulty someone may have with the initial phases of a swallow or to the sensation that the foods or the liquids are being obstructed in their passage from the mouth to the stomach. The objective of the study was to identify the diagnosis of patients attending Speech Therapy clinic, in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and to identify the demography of dysphagic patients. From the 406 patients that came during the study period, 139 patients (34.2%) were diagnosed with dysphagia, followed by developmental language disorders (33.3%). Of the 139 patients diagnosed with dysphagia, most of them are within the 41 to 60 (43.2%) and above 60 (42.2%) age groups. The majority were males (66.2%). A total of 81 (58.3%) patients with dysphagia had a history of cerebrovascular accident. Dysphagia is a common disorder among patients attending Speech Therapy Clinics at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu. Training of Speech Therapists and early dysphagia intervention leads to a better outcome
