    Inventarisasi Mamalia di Hutan Harapan Sumatera Selatan

    An inventory of mamalian species in restoration forest at The Harapan Rainforest, South Sumatra was conducted from March to June 2012. The animals were photograped using camera traps, personal encounters as well as indirect observations through foot prints, scratches, excavations, feces, and calls. This study has documented 23 species of mammals which belong to 15 families and 7 orders. From a total of 412 identified photograps, it was known that wild boars (Sus scrofa) were the most frequently photographed (89 images) while leopard (Prinailurus bengalensis) and Marbled cat (Pardofelis marmorata) were only photograped once for each species. We described each species by comparing to some references and discussed their implications for conservation.Keywords: mamalian species, camera traps, forest restoratio

    Pertumbuhan Daun Angsana (Pterocarpus indicus Willd) dan Akumulasi Logam Timbal (Pb)

    An examination of lead accumulation on leaves growth Angsana (Pterocarpus indicus Willd) was conducted from August to November 2012 in Plant Physiology Laboratory, Andalas University, Padang. The aim of the study was to find correlation between accumulation of lead and leaves size and stomatal density. Statistical analysis used kruskal wallis-test and linear regression. The result showed that Angsana’s leaves stopped growing after 25 days old with achieved 25.99 cm width, 345 per mm2 stomatal density and 0.73 mg per gr of chlorophyll content. Concentration of lead increased gradually from 0.00 mg per kg at early and 0.021 mg per kg in 25 days. There was no significant correlation between age of leaves and lead concentration. However, there was a positive correlation between width of leaves and lead concetration (R= 0.862).Keywords: Pterocarpus indicus, accumulation of Pb, age and size of leave

    Struktur Histologis Insang dan Kadar Hemoglobin Ikan Asang (Osteochilus hasseltii C.V) di Danau Singkarak dan Maninjau, Sumatera Barat

    A study on histological structure of gill and hemoglobin concentration of Silver Sharkminnow (Osteochilus hassletii C.V) in Singkarak and Maninjau Lakes, West Sumatera has been conducted from December 2012 to March 2013. This study aimed to determine the damage of histological structure of gill and haemoglobin concentration of O. hasseltii. We prepared slide preparation of gills to observe their damage structure, while hemoglobin concentration was counted/measured using Sahli method. The results showed various types of damage such as edema, loss of the epithelium on the secondary lamella, hyperplasia, fusion of secondary lamella, the loss of the secondary lamella structure, clubbing and thickening of elastic cartilage. Hemoglobin concentration of O. hasseltii ware 3.28% and 3.05 % for Singkarak and Maninjau respectively.     A study on butterflies (Rhopalocera) at Tanjung Balai Karimun was conducted from December 2011 to April 2012. The purposes of this study is to know the butterfly species at Tanjung Balai Karimun, Karimun Regency, Riau Archipelago. Butterflies were collected by insect net, cylindrical gauze and baited trap. A total of 42 species of butterflies that belonging 55 subspecies, 32 genera ang eigth families was collected. They were belong to Acraeidae, Amathusiidae, Danaidae, Lycaenidae, Nymphalidae, Papilionidae, Pieridae, and Satyridae. The highest number of species was found in family of Nymphalidae (15 species, 21 subspecies, 12 genera), and the lowest number of species was found in Acraeidae (Acraea violae Fabricius) and Amathusiidae (two genus, two spesies dan three subspesies). Five species of butterflies in this study have not been found in previous studies from Sumatra. They were Zeuxidia amethystus Butler (Amathusiidae), Euploea crameri C & R. Felder (Danaidae), Arhopala avatha de Niceville (Lycaenidae) and Euthalia mahadeva Fabricius, Lebadea martha Fruhstorfer (Nymphalidae).Keywords: rhopalocera, species, Tanjung Balai Karimun, Riau Archipelag

    Studi Morfometrik Daun Macaranga Thou. di Hutan Pendidikan dan Penelitian Biologi (HPPB)

    The morphometric study of Macaranga Thou. (Euphorbiaceae) leaf was carried out from February to June 2012 at The Biological Education and Research Forest (HPPB), Herbarium ANDA and Plant Taxonomy Laboratory of Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Andalas University, Padang. The survey method was used in this research, the observation and direct collection were performed in the field. The samples were identified based on vegetative characters. The data of the leaf measurements were analyzed by PAST ver. 2.10 programs. It was found six species of Macaranga (M. depressa, M. gigantea, M. hypoleuca, M. javanica, M. tanarius, and M. triloba) and there were identified differentian of characters for each species of Macaranga. The lobes, margo, ratio and types of leaf nervatio used to differentiation. Identification keys based on leaf character could be used to identify Macaranga species.     Jenis-Jenis Burung yang Memanfaatkan Eurya acuminata DC Di Kampus Universitas Andalas Limau Manis, Padang

    An inventory of birds visiting Jirak (Eurya acuminata) at Limau Manis Padang was done from July to December 2011. The study used point sampling method to collect birds data and determine birds frequency that visited Jirak (Eurya acuminata). This study found 12 birds species, which belong to two orders, seven families and eight genera. Pycnonotus goiavier was the most frequent visitor. Eurya acuminata was more widely visited for foraging (71.47%), followed by perching (17.40%) and singing (11.13%). The birds mainly visited Eurya acuminata more often in the morning (54.16%) rather than afternoon (45.83%). The top of the canopy area was preferred (45.93%) rather than margin canopy (37.19%) and the center of the canopy (16.86%).Keywords : inventory of birds, Eurya acuminata, canop

    Komunitas Mamalia Kecil Terestrial di Gunung Singgalang, Sumatera Barat

    The communities of small terrestrial mammals are known to be affected by the forest disturbances. The investigation of small terrestrial mammals’ community in had been conducted Mount Singgalang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Small terrestrial mammals were trapped in three different habitats; heavily disturbed, slightly disturbed and undisturbed forest. At each site, four transects were established using a total of 360 trap-night effort (120 trap-nights effort per site). We caught 37 individuals, consisted of 8 species which were included into 3 families and 3 orders. Composition and structure of the community was different among habitats.The highest diversity and abundance was found at slightly disturbed forest. In term of species composition, heavily disturbed forest was more similar to slightly disturbed forest than undisturbed forest. Crocidura neglecta and Maxomys surifer were the most tolerant species to the effect of forest disturbance. It is concluded that such differences among habitats in Mount Singgalangtend to have certain influences, although the significant difference was not found.Keywords: community, small terrestrial mammals, Mount Singgalan

    Keanekaragaman Jenis Orchidaceae (Anggrek-anggrekan)Di Kawasan Hutan Lindung Gunung Talang Sumatera Barat

    Taxonomical study of Orchidaceae at Talang Mountain had been done from September 2012 to March 2013. Plant samples were collected along climbing path of Talang Mountain using survey method. Those samples were processed and identified at Herbarium of Andalas University (Herbarium ANDA) Padang. This study found 23 species of orchids which belong to 16 genera (i.e. Arundina, Bulbophyllum, Ceratostylis, Coelogyne, Chelonistele, Dendrobium, Dendrochilum, Eria, Hylophila, Liparis, Oberonia, Peristylus, Phaius, Pholidota, Sphatoglotis, and Trichoglottis). Fifteen species were ephyphytic and eights pecies were teresterial plant.     Research about eggs hatching of olive ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea Eschscholtz,1829) in the turtle conservation area of Pariaman City was conducted from October to January 2013. This research aims to determine a suitable location in eggs hatching of olive ridley turtles in the Turtle Conservation Area of Pariaman city. The research used experiment method with treatment A (beachsand near the shore) and B (beachsand near the sea), three repetitions in each location and 20 eggs per repeat. Results showed that the best location for hatching is beachsand near the shore with 80 % rate of hatching. The rate of hatching in beachsand near the sea is 37%.     The study on dragonfly (Odonata) had been conducted in Kandi Wildlife Park Area, Sawahlunto City, West Sumatra. This study used descriptive method and survey in which dragonflies were collected directly by using insect net.
