An experiment on respiration rate of German cockroach (Blattella germanica, Dictyoptera; Blattellidae) that had been resistant to pyrethroid insecticide was done from December 2012 to Mei 2013. This experiment used completely randomized design with two treatments (with insecticide and without insecticide exposured) and three replications. The respiration rate were measured using the Scholander Respirometer. The control subject were VCRU-WHO as a susceptible strain standarized by WHO, while the resistance strains were GFA-JKT, KRSA-BDG, PLZ-SMRD and PLZ-PDG consisted of female, male and nymph Individuals. The results shown that respiration rates were not significant difference between susceptible and resistance strains on females (F: 0.373, df: 4, P: 0.823), males (F: 0.562, df: 4, P: 0.696) and nymphs (F: 0.402, df: 4, P: 0.803). The respiration rate were also not significant difference between with insecticide and without insecticide exposured, except within GFA-JKT females (F: 9.161, df: 4, P: 0.039), VCRU-WHO males (F: 11.779, df: 4, P: 0.026) and GFA-JKT nymphs (F: 8.733, df: 4, P: 0.042). Those results support that resistant cockroach do not increase respiration rate in responding insecticide exposured. Keywords: German cockroach, respiration rate, strains, insecticide exposure

This study was conducted using survey methods, interview, and direct plant sample collections in the field. The samples were identified at Herbarium Universitas Andalas (ANDA). The cultural significance used of plant for Balimau tradition was determined using Index of Cultural Significance (ICS). The result showed that 13 species belonging to 10 families were identified as plant species that used in Balimau tradition, namely: Cananga odorata (Annonaceae), Michelia alba (Magnoliaceae), Michelia champaca (Magnoliaceae), Jasminum sambac (Oleaceae), Pandanus amaryllifolius (Pandanaceae), Vetiveria zizanioides (Poaceae), Rosa hybrida (Rosaceae), Ixora javanica (Rubiaceae), Citrus aurantifolia (Rutaceae), Citrus hystrix (Rutaceae), Murraya paniculata (Rutaceae), Mimusops elengi (Sapotaceae), and Alpinia sp. (Zingiberaceae). Citrus aurantifolia has the highest ICS value indicated that the species was commonly used in the ritual of Balimau. An experiment aimed to increase alkaloid content of Phaleria macrocarpa callus using tryptophan as a precursor in Murashige & Skoog media was done from September 2013 to January 2014 at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology, Faculty of Sciences, Andalas University. This experiment used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were 6 consentrations of tryptophan i.e.0 mg/L (control), 100 mg/L, 125 mg/L, 150 mg/L, 175 mg/L, 200 mg/L. The results showed that tryptophan 200 mg/L gave the best concentration in producing the highest alkaloid content of Phaleria macrocarpa callus
