Mental health literacy as a determinant of help-seeking behavior among university students

    No full text
Understanding help-seeking behavior among Indonesian university students is essential, as it reflects how they navigate academic and psychological challenges within a cultural context that often discourages open discussion of personal difficulties. Strengthening mental health literacy plays a crucial role in this process, as greater awareness and knowledge about mental health can reduce stigma and empower students to seek appropriate support when needed. This study examines the relationship between mental health literacy and help-seeking behavior among university students. A total of 268 participants were recruited using purposive sampling. Employing a quantitative approach, the research utilized standardized psychological instruments, namely the Inventory of Attitudes toward Seeking Mental Health Services and the Multicomponent Mental Health Literacy Measure. Findings from the Pearson product-moment correlation analysis revealed a correlation coefficient of r = 0.381 with a p-value of < 0.001, indicating a statistically significant positive association between mental health literacy and students’ propensity to seek psychological help. Additionally, mental health literacy contributes 14.5% to the explanation of help-seeking behavior. These findings suggest that enhancing students’ mental health literacy could meaningfully encourage their willingness to seek help. Universities may therefore consider integrating mental health education into student development programs to promote more proactive help-seeking behaviors

Organizational identification is crucial for understanding how employees internalize their company’s values, goals, and identity. Understanding the dynamics of organizational identification can help companies foster a more harmonious and productive work environment and develop effective management strategies to retain and enhance employee engagement. This research aims to elucidate the role of a positive emotional culture in the relationship between symmetrical internal communication and organizational identification, moderated by procedural justice climate. 158 participants from various industries in Indonesia were involved in this study, selected through convenience sampling. Data collection was conducted via an online survey using Google Forms. Data analysis employed Model 4 and Model 14 of Hayes’ PROCESS, utilizing SPSS version 29.0.1.0. The results indicate that a positive emotional culture significantly mediates the relationship between symmetrical internal communication and organizational identification. However, there is no moderating effect of the procedural justice climate in this relationship. This research is valuable for organizational management, as it highlights the importance of fostering symmetrical internal communication to cultivate a positive emotional culture, which, in turn, can enhance employee organizational identification

Achieving emotional independence is one of the developmental tasks of adolescents. Previous studies have found differences in levels of emotional intelligence among adolescents. Initial studies show that the emotional intelligence of junior high school students is not optimal, especially in regulating emotions. The existence of gaps between various literature studies, gaps between literature studies and field studies, and the unavailability of research on the level of emotional intelligence, especially among students at one of the junior high schools in Denpasar, raises questions from researchers regarding the actual level of emotional intelligence of students at one of the junior high schools in Denpasar. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of emotional intelligence in students at a junior high school in Denpasar. Emotional intelligence is measured using the Emotional Intelligence Scale. The research method is descriptive quantitative. The sample was students at one of the junior high schools in Denpasar. A total of 387 respondents were determined through simple random sampling technique. The results showed that 3.87% of respondents were in the very low category, 26.87% in the low category, 40.83% in the medium category, 20.16% in the high category, and 8.27% in the very high category. The conclusion of this study is that the emotional intelligence of junior high school students has not developed optimally. The results of the study can be a reference for further researchers regarding psychological interventions to improve respondents' emotional intelligence

Nomophobia, the fear of being without a smartphone, is increasingly prevalent among university students and may be influenced by psychological factors such as spiritual intelligence and self-control. Several studies have demonstrated that these psychological factors play a significant role in nomophobic tendencies among college students. This quantitative study employs multiple regression analysis to examine the influence of spiritual intelligence and self-control on nomophobia in a sample of 99 Islamic Education students at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using validated instruments the NoMoPhobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q), the Spiritual Intelligence Self-Report Inventory, and a self-control self-report scale. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, and multiple linear regression using SPSS version 26. Descriptive analysis revealed that 67.68% of students exhibited high spiritual intelligence, 67.67% demonstrated moderate self-control, and 92.92% experienced high levels of nomophobia. Multiple regression analysis revealed that spiritual intelligence had a significant positive effect on nomophobia (β=0.277, p=0.004), whereas self-control had a significant negative effect (β=-1.015, p<0.001). The model explained 67% of the variance in nomophobia (R²=0.670, Adjusted R²=0.663), indicating a strong influence. However, the R² value of 0.276 mentioned elsewhere suggests moderate explanatory power, which may require clarification. Both spiritual intelligence and self-control significantly affected nomophobia among university students. These findings underscore the importance of developing spiritual intelligence and self-control to reduce nomophobia levels in this population

Individuals have two assessments in viewing career success, one of which is assessing success subjectively. Career success is success that comes from internal criteria of individuals. Among the many evaluations of career success, it is obtained through work experience. This work experience makes individuals evaluate their abilities, which is called perceived employability. In the context of teachers, these abilities are used to face the work environment in the future. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between perceived work ability and teachers' subjective career success. The study population consists of male or female teachers who hold appointment letters as permanent or non-permanent teachers at a foundation or as civil servants (ASN), and have at least five years of work experience, selected using quota sampling from 20 schools. The method used in this study is correlation analysis. The instruments used in this study were the perceived employability scale and the Subjective Career Success Inventory (SCSI). This study used the Pearson Product Moment correlation test analysis technique, and the results were analysed by dimension. The results of this study indicate that the internal perceived employability dimension is related to the subjective career success dimension, including the dimensions of recognition, quality of work, influence, authenticity, personal life, growth and development, and satisfaction. Furthermore, the external perceived employability dimension is related to the subjective career success dimension, including the dimensions of recognition, quality of work, influence, authenticity, and satisfaction. In conclusion, the internal perceived employability dimension is related to all dimensions of subjective career success. Meanwhile, the external perceived employability dimension is not related to all dimensions of subjective career succes
