Green hydrogen for future energy demand in Germany
Germany aims to achieve carbon-neutral electricity generation by 2045. As a part of this plan, solar and wind electricity generation is expected to increase significantly. Since renewable energy sources are highly volatile and intermittent, this leads to periods of energy surplus and deficit, resulting in need of energy storage solutions for efficient utilisation of renewable energy sources and grid stabilisation. The current paper proposes the utilisation of hydrogen as an energy storage system to balance the supply and demand dynamics in Germany for 2045 with an electrolyser sizing of 155 GW and a fuel cell sizing of 123 GW as a sustainable and profitable hydrogen system sizing for Germany in 2045. The paper illustrates that, fuel cell and electrolyser sizing can fully compensate for the future power deficit exacerbated by heating electricity and battery electric vehicles charging demand of Germany

Development of a prototype for semi-automatic surgical reporting
Introduction: After every surgical procedure, the surgeon is responsible for preparing an individual surgical report. This is often done with a time delay and relies on the correct memory of the surgeon, which can lead to inaccurat documentation. Semiautomatic recording, systematic storage and text processing of all intraoperative data would be time saving for the surgeon and form the foundation for quality management and subsequent data analysis.
Method: In collaboration with the school of informatics at Reutlingen University, the prototype of a semi-automatic checklist tool was developed using the example of cochlear implantation. The basis for this is a BPMN model (Business Process Model and Notation) of the procedure, which was created using a workflow analysis of the surgical process of cochlear implantation. Based on this, automatically generated, dynamic checklists are displayed via a user interface on an Android tablet. The intraoperative interaction, handeling of different input devices and the verification of medical correctness were tested on a phantom model.
Results: The user interface allows a simple intuitive handling by the surgeon or assistant, which can be well implemented in the intraoperative setting. The checklist allows individual recording and storage of both clinical data and surgical steps. In addition, an automated surgical report can be generated, customized and saved. The dynamic generation of the checklist via a BPMN model allows the easy transfer of the tool to other use cases.
Summary: The utilization of a dynamic checklist tool simplifies the collection, storage, and analysis of surgical data. Its potential for broader applications in clinical practice awaits further exploration via clinical studies are planne
Hybrid transformational leadership : insights and best practices from leaders at Microsoft (Part 1)
The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on organizations, economies, and the workplace. The pandemic forced employees to work remotely, and by 2020, around 17.4% of the global workforce was working from home (ILO, 2022). As we move forward, 57% of remote workers are considering a hybrid work model. This is indicating a trend towards hybrid arrangements, as it provides employees with the flexibility to carry out their job responsibilities in diverse settings and offers more flexibility and improved quality of life (Iqbal et al., 2021). As technology continues to evolve and workforces continuously become more hybrid, a new approach has emerged: hybrid transformational leadership

Increasing energy resilience, saving costs, and curbing emissions with systemic efficiency approaches
Systemic efficiency necessitates clarity about the aspired goal, available and feasible input factors for the desired outcomes and knowledge of the current state. This principle applies regardless of the sector or the level of flight. The common thread is that collaboration between the various stakeholders is of the essence. Beyond technological solutions, business model, education, training, and behavioural aspects must also be considered.
Increasing energy resilience, saving costs, and reducing emissions are thus inextricably linked to how effectively we integrate and optimise the interaction of the individual factors of any system technical, economic, organisational, and human, as well as the resources and specifics that exist or are available on site.
Electrification of industrial processes is an important step towards reducing dependence on fossil fuels, but challenges such as process changes and financial feasibility need to be addressed. Process heating and cooling, which account for a significant proportion of industrial energy consumption and are often fuelled by fossil fuels, are a key focus. However, the exploitation of unused waste heat potential is hampered by a lack of knowledge, so that large potentials remain unrecognised or neglected.
Overcoming this fateful barrier constitutes the biggest lever to reduce energy-related emissions from the industrial sector, eases the energy crisis and is the issue that is most important for achieving systemic efficiency: electrification or easier fuel switching both have an impact on one-off and ongoing costs, raise questions about ongoing security of supply, but also have a strong impact on systemic efficiency. This is due to the conversion efficiency in conjunction with the energy efficiency of the process. Due to the associated costs and availability, the identification of unnecessary consumption and utilisation of waste heat to reduce energy demand represents a huge – often untapped or underestimated – opportunity for many.
Drawing from meetings, reports and documents around the Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, as well as exchange with practitioners, researchers and conferences, the heuristic approach applied in this paper aims at shedding light on the concept of systemic efficiency, providing examples across numerous application areas and levels of flight to underline the broad relevance and applicability and thus enabling stakeholders to replicate the approach to various contexts
Composite polymer/wax coatings as a corrosion barrier of bioresorbable magnesium coronary stents
Magnesium and its alloys are suitable materials for biodegradable biomedical implants such as cardiovascular stents. Here we introduce an innovative composite polyelectrolyte multilayer/wax coating applied to commercial coronary Mg-based stents serving as a barrier layer effectively retarding corrosion. This hydrophobic coating, build by layer-by-layer technology, appeared very thin, smooth, homogeneous, strongly adherent and completely covering the surface of the Mg-stent. In-vitro degradation tests showed greater resistance to degradation of coated Mg-stents compared to uncoated and passivated ones. Cytocompatibility studies proved that Mg-stent coated with the composite coating was non-cytotoxic and improved fibroblast cell viability compared to the uncoated Mg-stent
