    Performance of Peking Ducks (Anas plathyrinchos) Adding Kencur Flour (Kaemferia galanga) in their rations

    The research objective was to determine the performance of Peking ducks which were added with galangal flour in their rations. The research method was an experimental method using a completely randomized design with 6 treatments and 4 replications where each replication consisted of 4 ducks. The study was conducted for 56 days. The research materials were 96 Day Old Ducks, rations (milled corn, bran, tofu dregs, and kale waste), drinking water, sugar water and calx. The equipment used were a stage cage, a litter, a place for feeding and drinking, a scale, stationery and other equipment. The treatments consisted of P0 = basal ration, P1 = P0 + 0.1% galangal flour, P2 = P0 + 0.2% galangal flour, P3 = P0 + 0.3% galangal flour, P4 = P0 + 0.4% galangal flour, and P5 = P0 + 0.5% galangal flour. The variables observed were feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion, and mortality. Data were analysed using analysis of variance. The results showed that the addition of galangal flour in the ration had a significant effect (P <0.05) on ration consumption and body weight gain and had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on ration conversion and mortality. The conclusion of this research is that the performance of Peking ducks which were given the addition of galangal flour in the ration could increase the feed consumption and body weight gain, but has not been efficient in reducing the value of feed conversion and the percentage of mortality

    Growth and Stock Of Swamp Buffalo (Buballus buballis) in Kuantan District, Kuansing Regency, Riau Province

    The purpose of this study was to know the population structure, natural increase, net replacement stock, and output of buffalo, as well as the holding capacity and capacity of breeders in managing the buffalo. The research was conducted in 14 villages based on the largest number of buffalo population. The material of this research was buffalo (1,802 heads) and buffalo breeders with a total of 179 respondents. The parameters measured were population structure, natural increase, net replacement rate (NRR), output, area carrying capacity and livestock ability to raise. Data were analyzed descriptively by displaying the mean and standard deviation. The results showed that the population structure was dominated by female 68.03%, natural increase 34.74%, male NRR 145.10%; female NRR 310.61%, output 16.83%. the carrying capacity of the Kuantan Tengah area was 10,685.67 ST with the ability of 45.58% breeders. Conclusion: Buffalo cattle in Central Kuantan District have high productivity and Central Kuantan District could be used as a source area for buffalo seedlings

    Evaluation of Nutrient Composition of Moringa Leaf Meal from Different Location in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

    The objective of the present study was to evaluate the nutrient composition of Moringa oleifera leaf meal (MLM) from different location in East Nusa Tenggara Province (ENT). A total of 27 samples of MLM were obtained from Sikka, Timor Tengah Utara and Kupang Regency. The experiment was designed using a block randomized design with three treatments and three replications (three samples per replication). The results showed that location significantly (P<0.05 – 0.001) affected the dry matter (DM), crude lipid (CL)), crude fiber (CF), ash, phosphor (P), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), threonine, isoleucine,, leucine, serine, glutamic acid, glycine, alanine and proline contents of MLM. The DM, ash and CF of MLM from Kupang were lower (P<0.05) than those from two other locations. The location did not affect (P>0.05) the crude protein, gross energy, calcium and some amino acid contents of MLM.  The NDF of MLM from Sikka was lower (P<0.05) than those from Kupang and TTU. The concentration of P of MLM from Kupang and Sikka was higher (P<0.05) than that of TTU. In conclusion, the nutrients compositions of MLM were different according to the location where the plant grows. The MLM is rich in protein, Ca, good in amino acid profile and low in fiber content. Thus, the MLM is potential to be used as alternative protein source for poultry

    Factors Affecting Service Per Conception of Ongole Cross-breed Cattles in Tanjung Sari District

    One of the parameters to see the reproductive performance of cattle is service per conception (S/C). The lack of information on important factors affecting S/C in Ongole Cross-breed (PO) cattles breeding underlies this research. The analysis in this research was linear regression using the MINITAB 16 application. The results of the research for service per conception (S/C) in Ongole Cross-breed (PO) cattles in Tanjung Sari sub-district were classified as ideal with a value of 1.29 ± 0.52. Each increase in the value of the BCS score will increase the S/C value. Each added age value at first married, it will increase the S/C value. Each added value of the parent's age will reduce the S/C value. The conclusion in this study is that S/C in PO cattles in Tanjung Sari District is 1.29 ± 0.52. Factors that affect the value of conception rate in PO cattles in Tanjung Sari district was the BCS score which was positively associated with S/C with a value of 0.553, age at first mated was negatively associated with S/C with a value of -0.434, and age parent was negatively associated with S/C with value of -0,114

    The Effect of Soaking Layer Eggs into Boiled Water of Melinjo (Ggnetum gnemon l.) Leaves against Oxidation, Foaming, and Internal Quality of Eggs

    This study aimed to evaluate the effect of soaking layer eggs into boiled water of melinjo leaves on oxidation, foaming, and internal quality of eggs. The experimental design was a Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments namely without any soaked (P0), soaked for 24 h into boiled water of melinjo leaves 15% (P1), 30% (P2), and 45% (P4) with 4 replications. The measurements were on the 14th and 21st days. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and DMRT multiple comparisons by significance of 0.05. The observed variables included peroxide value, moisture content, foam, albumen and yolk (weight, volume, and index), air sac, and haugh unit. The results showed that the immersion into the boiled water of melinjo leaves had an effect on water content, oxidation rate, foam stability and internal quality of eggs with the best concentration was 30% (P2) and 45% (P3), but had no effect on foam formation. It was concluded that the immersion of chicken eggs at concentrations of 30% (P2) and 45% (P3) was able to prevent the acceleration of the changes in moisture content, suppress oxidation, improve the foam stability, and maintain the internal quality of eggs until the 21st day

    The Effect of Males on Birth Weight and Body Weight at 11 Months of Female Friesian Holstein Dairy Cattle At PT. Ultra Ranch South Bandung

    This research aims are to identify the birth weight and weight of heifers aged 11 months from each bull that had mate the mother at PT. Ultra Peternakan Bandung Selatan (UPBS). This research used descriptive analysis and one way analysis variance, using SPSS. The data were collected deliberately and in accordance with the completeness of the data, such as pedigree records, livestock identity, names of bulls used, birth weight of heifers, weight of 571 heifers aged 11 months and 22 bulls. The result showed that the average birth weight of heifers (FH) from each bull ranged from 37.78 ± 1.49 kilogram. The average weight of FH aged 11 months from each bull ranged from 302.49 ± 31.73 kilogram. The bull that showed best performance with the highest weight is Coyne PlanetE

    Infestation Level of Gastrointestinal Helminth in Swamp Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis Linn.) in Jati Agung District Lampung Selatan Regency

    The research was conducted at Jati Agung District Lampung Selatan Regency on December 2019, aimed to know infestation levels of gastrointestinal helminths on Mud Bufallo. The research used cencus method. Data collection has been done by taking all faecal samples from 80 Mud Bufallo at 6 village in Jati Agung District. Faecal samples examination checked with Mc. Master and Sendimentation test at Lampung Veterinary Hall. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that of the 80 buffalo faeces samples examined, 23 samples (28.75%) were positively infested with gastrointestinal helminths in both single and multi-species infestations. The highest infestation found in Sinar Rejeki village about 100% and the lowest infestation found in Jatimulyo village about 18,51%. Helmiths species that found in Mud Bufallo are from Trematode class (Paramphistomum sp.) Nematode class (Toxocara sp., Bunostomum sp., Strongyloides sp., Haemonchus sp., Oesophagustomum sp., Trichostrongylus sp., and Mecistocirrus sp.), and Cestode class (Moniezia sp.)

    Relationship between Body Weight and Dry Matter Intake of Dry-off Cows with Birth Weight and Body Measurements of Calves

    The aim of this research was to find out and examine the relationship between dry matter intake (DMI) and body weight of dry-off cows on calf performance. This research was conducted at CV. Capita Farm and Rias farmers group in Getasan, Semarang Regency, Central Java. The research material was 26 cows and 26 calves that were born. This research was conducted observationally with the observed parameters were changes in the cow's body weight and consumption of DMI for 2 weeks before parturition with data collection every week, and also calf body weight and calf body measuremnets including body length, height and chest circumference at birth. The model of the relationship between parameters was tested with a simple regression test and t-test to determine differences in birth weight between male and female calves. The results showed that the weight of the parent body and the amount of dry-off DMI cow consumption at the end of dry periode did not correlate with calf body weight and calf body size. Calf body weight was influenced by gender with males having heavier weights than birth weight of female calves. Weight of male and female calf was 40.93 and 35.91 kg, respectively. In conclusion, the body weight of the dry-off cows and DMI of the dry-off cows could not be used to estimate the birth weight and body measureents of calves

    Reproductive Status and Net Replacement Rate Brahman Cross in Livestock Production Cooperative Maju Sejahtera Tanjung Sari District South Lampung Regency

    The purpose of this study was to determine the reproductive status, Natural Increase (NI), Net Replacement Rate (NRR), and Output, of Brahman Cross cattle in Maju Sejahtera Cooperative, Tanjung Sari District, South Lampung Regency. This research was conducted in one month, started from December 2019 to January 2020. Data was collected from all Brahman Cross cattle breeders in the Maju Sejahtera Cooperative by interviewing respondents. Female cattle are used natural mating methods. The age of first mating of heifers is two years. Calving interval (CI) of Brahman Cross cattle at Maju Sejahtera Cooperative is 12.4months. Natural Increase (NI) of Brahman Cross cattle in Maju Sejahtera Cooperative is 29.48%. The Net Replacement Rate (NRR) value of male Brahman Cross cattle at the Maju Sejahtera Cooperative is more than 100% (670.4%). The output of Brahman Cross cattle at the Maju Sejahtera Cooperative is 52.43%
