Get PDFWeeding merupakan salah satu aktivitas di Perpustakaan yang sulit dilakukan. Pustakawan harus menilai dengan sangat hati-hati bila akan melaksanakan weeding pada sebuah bahan perpustakaan. Ia akan merasa bersalah bila bahan perpustakaan yang di-weeding kemudian dibutuhkan pemustaka. Namun jajaran bahan perpustakaan di rak yang dipenuhi dengan bahan perpustakaan yang tidak terpakai akan menyulitkan pemustaka mendapatkan informasi yang dibutuhkan. Untuk menghindari terjadinya protes dari stakeholders perpustakaan harus membuat dokumen kebijakan weeding yang dipersiapkan dengan baik, sehingga stakeholders mengerti manfaat dilakukannya weeding dan masalah yang ditimbulkan bila perpustakaan tidak melaksanakan weeding. Bahkan untuk koleksi e-book juga perlu dilakukan weeding, walaupun belum banyak yang melakukan hal itu. Perpustakaan IPB memisahkan koleksi buku dengan tahun terbit 1990 ke bawah sebelum melakukan weeding pada koleksi tersebut.Keyword : Library collections, Library acces

Get PDFGrey literature is one of library material types which can be accessed restrictedly by the patrons.The paradox is that grey literature contains very important information to support research andstudy. Therefore by building a digital library it is assumed both security and accessibility of users tothe grey literature content will be accomodated. Designing a digital library as an institutionalrepository for UPH by using the Zachman Framework will take a very important role in definingthe technical and normative features of an ideal digital library. In addition to, the exploration andmodification of DSpace by using Software Evolution method will also define the technical andnormative features of DSpace performance. The result of these will be compared to one another byusing a simple relevancy test procedure. The result are 90,625 % of relevancy degree on technicalfeatures and 95,7 % of relevancy degree on normative features. According to the result, it can beclaimed that a high relevancy degree is found between the pre-made architectural system of digitallibrary and the post-modification of DSpace program.Keywords: digital library, DSpace, grey literature, institutional repository, Zachman Framework

Get PDFThe paper explores how competence and commitment affect librarians in achieving their better performance. Both competence and commitment can be gained through internal and external struggles. Internal struggle means that the librarian have to develop their characters into the targetsthat have been set for their performance indicator. Internal struggle starts when the librarians try to know their identities, by analysing their physical’s strengths and weaknesses, knowing their attitudes, personalities, and talents until they find their self-concept. This self- concept can be continued into the stage of finding personality or themselves, in the sense that they can recognize their self confidence as well as values. This condition becomes a basic for their self-development inwhich they are able to achive their personal identity and become a self-confident persons or independent persons. They become “good” librarians who are easily to be motivated, creative, and innovative to meet their users’ needs. External struggle comes from library environment where theywork, including giving services to users. How “smart” they are in developing databases, preparing book access, giving retrieval guidance to users are practices that are able to improve their smartness.Sets of managerial tools related to librarians’ performance can also develop librarians’ competence and commitments. Starting from Balanced Scorecards that can be adopted into several versions in relation to the actual library operation, competences and commitment assessment in the form of performance indicator are available for every librarian including libray staff. Intrapreneurship is attitudes that can be developed by librarians who possess competence and commitment, especially to face their changing environment from tradional into digital operations. Hopefully, by having competence, commitment, and intrapreneurship, librarians become independent persons so that they are capable to maintain digital library operation and management

Desain Konseptual Personalisasi Pencarian Pada Perpustakaan Online: Kasus Perpustakaan Pusat IPB
Get PDFCurrent IPB Center Library search engine has been developed to serve all users, independent of the special needs of any individual user. Personalized search is to carry out retrieval for each user incorporating his/her interest. This research propose a novel technique to learn user profile from user lending history to represent long-term interest and user search history to represent short-term interest. The user profiles are then used to improve retrieval effectiveness in online search. A general profile are learned from a category hierarchy. These two profiles are combined to map a user query into a set of categories which represent the user’s search intention and serve as context to disambiguate the words in the user’s query. Online search is conducted based on both the user query and the set of categories. Several profile learning and category mapping algorithms and a merging algorithm are evaluated. Experimental results indicate that this technique to personalize search is effective

Knowledge covered in the ITB Digital Library was categorized according to the kinds of information. The categories chosen are: the Student Last Project (Skripsi), that is the student’s last project for undergraduate level; Thesis, that is the last project of the graduate students;Dissertation, that is the student’s last project of the Ph.D. level; E-clipping, that is the electronic newspaper article; Proceeding, that is the papers from seminar, workshop, scientific meeting held in ITB, and the products of the civitas academica;Research Report from any research groups in ITB; Grey Literature, that is the unpublished documents of the ITB civitas academica, such as inaugural speech, scientific papers, and articles; Jurnals published by departments or units in ITB;Expert Directory, compiled according to the subjects of the experts; Patent, categorized according to the subjects, such as medicine, food, and software; Books, at the beginning books were not covered in this digital library, but it is the fact that many ITB faculty members publish their books related to the course materials
