AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING IN REVIEWING ARTICLES: CASE STUDIES AND THEIR PERSPECTIVE

A literature review is the process of collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing information from various sources that are relevant to a particular research topic. These sources can be scientific journals, books, articles, research reports, or other credible sources. In higher education, literature review assignments are very common. Students are often asked to conduct literature reviews as part of their coursework. This study aims to determine how students understand and carry out literature review assignments. To that end, the researcher directly observed 4th-semester students of Chemistry Education UNM who were working on literature review assignments. The researcher collected data from their assignments and also the results of the surveys they filled out. By analyzing this data, the researcher wanted to find out to what extent students understood this assignment, what difficulties they faced, and what they thought about the literature review assignment. The results of the study showed that students were generally quite good at understanding the topics they were researching and at finding relevant sources. They could also analyze information from various sources quite well. However, there were still shortcomings in terms of compiling references. Based on the survey results, most students felt that the literature review assignment was very helpful for them in analyzing information and finding relevant sources. However, many students still have difficulty in grouping information and making deeper conclusions from various sources. In addition, difficulties in analyzing information, the large number of articles to be read, and difficulties in understanding unfamiliar language make students overwhelmed and make it difficult to focus on completing literature reviews. This shows that lecturers need to improve the way they give literature review assignments so that students are more trained in thinking systematically

DEVELOPMENT OF NEARPOD LEARNING MEDIA FOR THE CONCEPT OF REACTION RATES COMPREHENSION

THE PERFORMANCE OF VIRTUAL LABORATORY OF MEMBRANE SYNTHESIS VIA PHASE INVERSION AS PRE-PRACTICAL GUIDELINE IN A SEPARATION CHEMISTRY COURSE

Learning in the twenty-first century has brought about changes in educational approaches, one of which is practical learning, which can be undertaken both physically and virtually. The development of virtual laboratory(VL) has been widely used in secondary school teaching, notably science education. However, the development of VLspecifically for university-level education remains quite limited. However, in some practical disciplines, such as membrane-based separation chemistry, both instructors and students face restrictions in equipment and resources. As a result, the goal of this study is to create a VL for membrane synthesis practicum utilizing the phase inversion approach that can also be utilized in separation chemical practicum. In addition, the researchers assessed the amount of legitimacy and user response to VL media, specifically among students. The first stage of the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) begins with a needs analysis (via interviews) with separation chemistry lecturers to identify areas for development in the VL and to ensure that the VL development plan aligns with the practical course objectives. The researcher used feedback from the course lecturer during the design stage, namely while gathering the material and presentation of VL to create the storyboard. Then, three specialists confirmed the draft I created during the development stage, declaring it highly validwith a proportion more than 85%. Following the revision step of draft I based on the validation results, draft II was created for restricted testing with users (students), and the results revealed a very good response, with more than 90% of students providing feedback ranging from agree to highly agree. Some suggestions for enhancement, particularly the usage of foreign languages in VL, will be considered in the final stage. Thus, the VL can be recommended for use in membrane synthesis experiments in the separation chemistry course

PERCEPTION SURVEY OF SELECTED BRANDS OF SACHET WATER SOLD IN BO CITY, SOUTHERN SIERRA LEONE

This study was conducted to delve into the nuanced perceptions surrounding specific sachet water brands Tex, Daramy Pure Water, Blue Diamond Water, Arjorkoh Pure Water, and Nice Pure Water within the dynamic landscape of Bo City in Southern Sierra Leone. Bo City, a vibrant hub, witnesses local suppliers' consumption and sale of numerous sachet water brands. A meticulously crafted checklist of questionnaires was administered to comprehensively capture the multifaceted perspectives of residents. The survey encompassed a spectrum of aspects, including participant profiles related to sachet drinking water, knowledge about various brands, preferred consumption times, motivations behind choosing sachet water, consumption rates across different brands, taste preferences, confidence levels in producers, and the underlying rationale for brand selection. This multifaceted approach aims to provide a holistic understanding of the diverse factors influencing sachet water preferences and consumption patterns among the local populace. Analyses of the results revealed that most respondents chose Tex 82(41%), followed by Blue Diamond 42 (21%), Arjorkoh Pure Water 40 (20%), Daramy Pure Water 23 (12%), and Nice Pure Water 13 (7%) being the least. The study also revealed that most people's choices were based on the following parameters: Safety 82(41%), availability 47(23.5%), and good taste 34 (17%), among other parameters. A recent Canadian study of more than 1,000 citizens found that satisfaction with water quality is linked to taste, odor, and color. The research also revealed that few sachet water brands have no outlets in strategic locations within the city, and the taste of the water was a key factor, the consumption was high during the dry season of the year, and this is reflected in the annual sales record by the suppliers. From the data available at the time of writing, we concluded that Tex is the first preference of the customers, followed by Blue Diamond, Arjorkoh, and Nice Pure Water, being the least due to their taste, color, and availability
