Hydrogen production by sorption enhanced steam reforming (SESR) of the bio-oil obtained from the fast pyrolysis of biomass was thermodynamic and experimentally studied through the mixture of three main model compounds in a fixed bed reactor. The oxygenated model compounds of the components present in the bio-oils produced by the fast pyrolysis of biomass selected in the present work were: acetic acid (AcH) as an model compound of organic acids, acetone (AcCO) as a model compound of carbonyl-containing constituents (mainly aldehydes and ketones) and phenol (PhOH) as a model compound of phenolic constituents.Gobierno del Principado de Asturias (Programa predoctoral Severo Ochoa)11th Natural Gas Conversion Symposiu

Non-Isolated High-Gain Three-Port Converter for Hybrid Storage Systems

    Get PDF
This work proposes a non-isolated power electronic topology to interface two distinct electrical energy storage units to a DC link, resulting in a Hybrid Storage System. The proposed solution, called Series-Parallel Connection, allows for interfacing these three ports in a simple, compact and reliable approach, based on the standard configuration of the H-bridge converter. The main advantage is that one of the storage units can be of much smaller voltage ratings than the other two, avoiding the use of multilevel or galvanic-isolated power stages. The resulting structure is compared against the most significant transformerless alternatives based on the H bridge converter, stating their advantages and drawbacks. An analysis of the switching and conduction losses in the power switches of the proposed solution is carried out in order to state the design constraints at which this solution presents improved efficiency versus the alternatives. A final set of experiments in a 10 kW built prototype demonstrates the feasibility and states the benefits as well as the main limitations of the proposed scheme. Foreign Language Education and Technology. A technological Content and Language Integrated Project Learning-based innovative didactic unit proposal

    Get PDF
In recent years, the teaching and learning of English as a Second Language in Secondary classrooms is a priority. The cosmopolitan society and the desire for growth is inherent to those population priorities. However, the knowledge that students show at the end of this stage of education is not what it should be. Teachers and students’ low motivation, along with the traditional methodologies used in Secondary Schools, favor the Spanish students’ poor level of English. In this Master’s thesis a research proposal that will build upon advantageous methodologies such as Content and Language Integrated Learning, a constructivist view and the benefits of Project-Based Learning will be provided. Added to this, is the idea of implementing and promoting the proper use of technological resources and social networks in the classroom as a means of exploration and demonstration. The Didactic Unit will discuss the different roles female characters in Disney films. This proposal consists of different activities that have been designed to encourage motivation, equal opportunities, and a critical reflection of the teaching of English as a Second Language

Permanent Magnet Temperature Distribution Estimation in PMSMs Using BEMF Harmonics

    No full text
PM temperature measurement/estimation in permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) is convenient both for torque control and monitoring purposes. Most of existing methods provide and averaged/punctual temperature. However, PM temperature distribution is not uniform, which can have unexpected adverse effects like reduced accuracy estimating the torque produced by the machine or local demagnetization e.g. due to hot spots. PM temperature distribution can be measured or estimated. Inner and outer PM surfaces are not visible once the machine is assembled. Therefore measurement of the PM temperature distribution cannot be realized by visual means. An array of temperature sensors attached to the PM can be used in this case. While this is technically feasible, it is unaffordable in commercial products due to cost and robustness issues. Alternatively, the PM temperature distribution can be estimated. The paper analyzes the use of back electromotive force (BEMF) harmonics to estimate the differential temperature in the PM of a PMSM, i.e. the temperature difference between the hottest and coldest parts of the magnets. Combined with average PM temperature estimation methods, this information can be used to estimate the PM temperature spatial distribution. The proposed method has been developed on an empirical basis

Georreferenciación directa en RPAS: ¿mito o realidad?

    Get PDF
Nowadays we are witnessing real boiling in the development of RPAs (Remotely Piloted Aircrafts) aiming to many different purposes in the civil sphere. One of these fields of application is the generation of large scale mapping products derived from images taken from these platforms. As it is well known this task require a high level of accuracy that is currently based in surveying reference points by means of well established techniques. But as has happened with the capture of imagery that has become autonomous, there is a demand for solutions that can offer independence of all topographic field works required for GCP's (Ground Control Points) measurement. The level of accuracy required by methodologies of direct or semi-direct images orientation only seems achievable for high precission airborne inertial units commonly seen as the only way to obtain accurate position and attitude of the image sensor systems. These high end systems costs can reach thousands of euros, so that accuracy seems exclusive just for certain sectors or professionals. Thanks to the kindness of the companies Geobit Consulting and Droning Sistemas Aéreos, it has been possible to have an ow developed RPA system with built in GNSS L1 / L2 to perform various tests. This has made possible to verify the accuracy that can be achieved aiming to direct georeferencing or a priori external orientation given by onboard sensors for the production of orthophotos and other products. Tests were carried out in different scenarios: mining, corridor or areas with poor texture in order to determine the repeatability in the offered precision. Many factors have been found to influence the final accuracy, such as satellite coverage, flight scenario, data redundancy, overlapping percentages, or stability in calibration sensor. All these parameters have been considered in different projects conducted for the analysis of the datasets. The results are strongly influenced by the type of sensor used as well. This paper exposes the results obtained in the different scenarios, leaving open the possibility of further testing in order to compare the results obtained.
