    Get PDF

Carbon nitride assisted chemoselective C–H bond photo-oxidation of alkylphenolethoxylates in water medium

    Get PDF
The unprecedented ability of g-C3N4 to chemoselectively photo-oxidise the methyl group of 2-(4-methylphenoxy)ethanol instead of the easily oxidised oxyethanol fragment has been demonstrated. When g-C3N4 is treated with H2O2, its selectivity enhances due to the blocking of surface sites responsible for the adsorption and the subsequent oxidation of the oxyethanol substituent

    Sectoral H-plane SBFSS-SIW Horn Antenna

    Get PDF
A sectoral H-plane SIW horn antenna based on Stop-Band Frequency Selective Surface Substrate Integrated Waveguide technology is presented. The FSS operating in Stop- Band that replace the original metal conductor plates of the horn, increase the versatility of these structures, by making the direct integration of biased active and passive devices on its surface possible. The return losses, the radiation patterns and the E-field distribution on the surface of the proposed antenna have been compared with those of its counterpart SIW horn, to demonstrated that the new antenna can be used in the same role as the SIW horn with the advantage of having electrically isolated pads from ground on its surface. This work was supported by the Gobierno del Principado de Asturias under the Plan de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovación (PCTI) by Grants BP13042 and BP12032, by the Gobierno del Principado de Asturias and FEDER (Uni´on Europea) under Project GRUPIN14-114, and by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad under Project TEC2014-54005-P

Implementing low power consumption in standby mode in the case of power supplies with power factor correction

    Get PDF
This work analyzes different options to implement low power consumption in Switching Mode Power Supplies (SMPSs) with Power Factor Correction (PFC) when they are in standby mode. The standard SMPSs for power levels higher than 100 W are made up of two stages: a classical PFC stage based on a Boost Converter operating in the Continuous Conduction Mode and a second stage based on any type of isolated DC-DC converter. The value of the resistive sensors needed by the PFC control stage determines a standby consumption higher than 0.5 W if the power supply has to be designed to operate in the Universal Range of line voltages. This fact makes it very difficult to comply with European Ecodesign Regulations. To overcome this problem, several solutions are proposed and analyzed in this paper, the most promising being implemented in a real SMPS prototype. This work has been supported by the Spanish Government under Project MINECO-13-DPI2013-47176-C2-2-R and the Principality of Asturias under the grant “Severo Ochoa” BP14-85 and by the Project FC-15-GRUPIN14-143 and by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grants.2017 Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC

The approach to Italian-Spanish tradition through the translation: use of the journal. The subjunctive is the most complex mood in both the Spanish and the Italian languages. Currently, there are many Italians who use the indicative mood at a colloquial level instead of the subjunctive one (something that does not happen in Spanish, thus it has more vivacity and it is still frequently used). In fact, a future subjunctive form, which was commonly used during the Medieval Period but nowadays has little functional efficiency, has been preserved. This article is aimed at showing the similarities and the differences between these two languages during the Early Middle Ages through the analysis of several chapters of Boccaccio’s Decameron in its first translation to Spanish. To an extent, these resemblances and differentiations could be extrapolated to the present day

Hipometilación del gen de la PTH por elevado fósforo de la dieta: un posible agravante epigenético de la severidad del hiperparatiroidismo secundario en la enfermedad renal crónica / Hypomethylation of the PTH gene due to high dietary phosphorus: A possible aggravating of severe secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic renal failure

    No full text
Introduction: Hyperphosphataemia aggravates both parathyroid hyperplasia and PTH secretion in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Hyperplasia is associated with decreases in calcium receptor expression (CaSR), vitamin D (VDR) and α-Klotho, inducing resistance of the parathyroid gland to respond both to treatment and to increases in FGF23. This study examined the possible epigenetic contributions of raised phosphorus to aggravate secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in patients with (CRD). Material and methods: The degree of methylation was compared by pyrosequencing of bisulfite in CpG-rich sequences of the promoters in the CaSR, VDR, PTH and α-Klotho genes in parathyroid gland DNA from uremic rats fed a normal and high phosphorus diet. Results: The diet rich in phosphorus increased PTH expression and caused a marked reduction in the degree of methylation in the promoter of the PTH gene. In contrast, the promoter regions of the CaSR, VDR and α-Klotho genes did not show significant differences in the percentage of methylation between the two groups of rats. Thus, it was not the determining mechanism for the decrease of the expression of these genes observed in the SHPT. Conclusions: The epigenetic alterations induced by the phosphorus rich diet in SHPT, particularly the PTH gene hypomethylation, could contribute to the increases that occur in the synthesis and secretion of this hormone. The identification of the mechanisms involved would allow better treatments for SHPT to be designed in the early stages of CKD.This work was supported by a FEIOMM 2014 grant for the promotion of trasla-tional research.
