Controversie nello stabilimento del modo potenziale: Analisi testuale e traduttologica dell’espressione del futuro e dell’ipotesi in italiano e in spagnolo medievali

The potential mood has been a matter of long-standing controversy. In Italian Studies, conditional verb forms have traditionally belonged to this category, frequently called the conditional mood, even when Alarcos Llorach includes future tenses in it, too. Following the functionalist principles of Hispanic linguistics, Alarcos defends the position that the future should be included within the conditional mood. According to this innovative claim, in line with the ideas advocated by the linguist Pavao Tekavčić, Emilio Alarcos’ proposal has proved to be perfectly applicable to Italian. This is the reason why a contrastive perspective has been adopted. In this article, a close scrutiny of the first translation into Spanish of The Decameron aims to show the similarities and differences between the Spanish edition and the original Italian text. With the focus on the detailed study of the hypothetical meaning of some verbal periphrases and modal adverbs, as well as on the values of verb forms conjugated in the potential (both future and conditional tenses), the grammatical analysis will reveal the way in which Spanish and Italian, specifically 14th-century Tuscan, have, since the Middle Ages, shared a number of morphosyntactic characteristics, many of which have survived until today. A conclusion can be drawn from all of this: Italian and Spanish behave in the same way, except for one case relating to the use of the conditional. It must be noted that the conditional perfect in Italian is used in certain contexts to refer to facts that in Spanish are expressed in the conditional simple, since they are considered non-finite and, thus, aspectually non-perfect.

Association of Candidate Gene Polymorphisms With Chronic Kidney Disease: Results of a Case-Control Analysis in the Nefrona Cohort

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major risk factor for end-stage renal disease, cardiovascular disease and premature death. Despite classical clinical risk factors for CKD and some genetic risk factors have been identified, the residual risk observed in prediction models is still high. Therefore, new risk factors need to be identified in order to better predict the risk of CKD in the population. Here, we analyzed the genetic association of 79 SNPs of proteins associated with mineral metabolism disturbances with CKD in a cohort that includes 2,445 CKD cases and 559 controls. Genotyping was performed with matrix assisted laser desorption ionization–time of flight mass spectrometry. We used logistic regression models considering different genetic inheritance models to assess the association of the SNPs with the prevalence of CKD, adjusting for known risk factors. Eight SNPs (rs1126616, rs35068180, rs2238135, rs1800247, rs385564, rs4236, rs2248359, and rs1564858) were associated with CKD even after adjusting by sex, age and race. A model containing five of these SNPs (rs1126616, rs35068180, rs1800247, rs4236, and rs2248359), diabetes and hypertension showed better performance than models considering only clinical risk factors, significantly increasing the area under the curve of the model without polymorphisms. Furthermore, one of the SNPs (the rs2248359) showed an interaction with hypertension, being the risk genotype affecting only hypertensive patients. We conclude that 5 SNPs related to proteins implicated in mineral metabolism disturbances (Osteopontin, osteocalcin, matrix gla protein, matrix metalloprotease 3 and 24 hydroxylase) are associated to an increased risk of suffering CKD

Reflectarray Pattern Optimization for Advanced Wireless Communications

A framework for the design and optimization of large dual-linear polarized, shaped-beam reflectarrays for advanced wireless communications is presented. The methodology is based on the generalized intersection approach (IA) algorithm for both phase-only synthesis (POS) and direct optimization of the reflectarray layout, as well as on the use of a method of moments in the spectral domain assuming local periodicity. A thorough description of the design and optimization procedures is provided. To demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed framework, two examples are considered. The first example is a shaped-beam reflectarray for future 5G base stations working in the millimeter waveband, radiating a sectored-beam pattern in azimuth and squared-cosecant pattern in elevation to provide constant power in the coverage area. The second example is a very large contoured-beam reflectarray for direct-to-home (DTH) broadcasting based on real mission requirements with Southern Asia coverage. This work was supported in part by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades under the project TEC2017-86619-R (ARTEINE); by the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad under the project TEC2016-75103-C2-1-R (MYRADA); by the Gobierno del Principado de Asturias/FEDER under the project GRUPIN-IDI/2018/000191; by the Gobierno del Principado de Asturias through the Programa “Clarín” de Ayudas Postdoctorales/Marie Curie COFUND under the project ACA17-09; and by Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte/Programa de Movilidad “Salvador de Madariaga” (Ref. Background: Dialysis is the first procedure to partially replace renal function in end-stage renal diseases, despite several adverse side effects, such as infections. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of immune CMV-specific CD8+ T cells in a representative cohort of pre-transplant patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD). The secondary aim was to monitor the CMV-specific CD8+ T cells in kidney transplant recipients undergoing different types of dialysis during the first year following their transplant. Methods: Sixty-nine patients were enrolled and examined with respect to the type of dialysis they received. HLA class I dextramers for CMV were used to determine the quantity of CMV-specific CD8+ T cells. The CMV DNA viral load was also determined. Forty-two of the patients enrolled in the study underwent solid organ transplantation and were analyzed during their first year post-transplantation. Results: Patients receiving HD had fewer CMV-specific CD8+ T cells than those in PD (p < 0.05). We also observed that patients in PD had more CMV-specific CD8+ T cells during the follow-up period than those in HD (p < 0.05), independently of the CMV DNA. Finally, PD patients had a higher frequency of CD8+ Effector-Memory RA T cells (TEMRA) and a lower frequency of central memory T cells (TCM) than did HD patients. Conclusions: These results indicate the better status of CMV-specific T cell immunity in PD patients. The use of CMV T cell dextramers would be advantageous formonitoring the CD8+ T-specific response, enabling the use of prophylactic treatment to be optimized

Versión disponible online: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8768404 DOI: 10.1109/TIM.2019.2930159This contribution introduces three methodologies to improve Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)-based techniques used in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems. They consist of i) equalization of the frequency response of the transmitting (Tx) and receiving (Rx) antennas, ii) processing of SAR images using partially overlapped frequency sub-bands, and iii) imaging domain clustering. The goal is to combine ground penetration capabilities of lower frequency bands with the resolution achieved when increasing the overall frequency band, resulting in enhanced detection and imaging capabilities. Validation of these techniques has been done at three levels: first using simulations, next by means of measurements in a controlled scenario and, finally, using a portable setup deployed in a realistic scenario.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the utility of hospital nursing discharge reports for / by PC nursing coming from the different computer systems of the Health System of the Principality of Asturias (SESPA). METHODOLOGY: A descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional study, combining 2 types of analysis (quantitative, descriptive and qualitative), was carried out on PC nursing in areas V and VIII, between June and October 2017, involving 189 nurses. Nursing personnel with more than 1 year of experience in PC was included. The data were collected by structured, self-administered, personal and anonymous questionnaire, whose 25 items measured variables (quantitative discrete, qualitative nominal dichotomous and qualitative ordinal) among them: age, years of experience in PC, gender, knowledge of the report, degree of use, previous knowledge of the patient, of the care continuity and understanding of the terminology. Collection technique prior to the presentation of the study, explaining its objectives and subsequent delivery of the questionnaire Regarding the analysis, descriptive statistics were calculated for quantitative variables, the average, standard deviation, maximum and minimum. For qualitative variables, we used percentages and 95% confidence intervals. The bivariate analysis was performed by Chi-square test and Spearman’s F.The statistical program used was R. RESULTS: Our results show thast 64% and 18% of the staff perceive the current CCR as of little use or useless. 91% would improve the content of the report, in addition to 86% who recognizes it as the priority aspect. In addition, 49% and 35% perceive as necessary improvements in their extension and terminology used. CONCLUSIONS: The PC nurse demands better quality information in the CCR, and adapted to the needs perceived by the patient in order to be continued and satisfied by PC. Applicable in achieving a more individualized approach to the patient’s situation through the CCR.

Objectives: To describe the risk factors of anosognosia in patients with Alzheimer's disease, as well as to determine its influence on the appearance of depression, anxiety and psychic overload in their caregiver. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study describing the factors associated with the anosognosia of 35 patients and the influence that Alzheimer's disease has on their caregivers. The following validated scales were used: global deterioration scale (GDS), mini mental state examination (MMSE), DEX questionnaire, Zarit scale for assessing caregiver burden, self-rating depresion scale of Zung and Conde, the abbreviated from the scale of geriatric depression of Yesavage in population under 65 years and neuropsychiatric inventory in its abbreviated version (NPI-Q). Results: 62.9% of patients are women. 45.7% are over 80 years old. The score in the MMT is negatively related (-.386) with the level of anosognosia and it is the immediate memory that best predicts it. Referring to caregivers, 62.9% are women, specifically daughters (37.1%). 34.3% are overburdened and 68.5% suffer from depression using the Yesavage scale. Conclusions: Anosognosia is a very common clinical symptom in Alzheimer's disease. Smoking patients with a depressed mood are more likely to develop anosognosia. The changes that anosognosia causes in the patient, condition the appearance of depression, anxiety and overload in their caregiver.
