    Proyecto financiado dentro de la Convocatoria del Programa Asturias de ayudas a Centros Tecnológicos en el Principado de Asturias durante el periodo 2018-2020 de la Consejería de Empleo, Industria y Turismo, nº de Expediente IDI/2018/000027Los procesos de soldadura constituyen una parte fundamental dentro de los procesos productivos en diversos sectores industriales (metal-mecánico, bienes de equipo, recipientes a presión, vehículos de transporte, grandes estructuras, grúas, puentes, equipos domésticos, etc.), y resultan críticos para garantizar la calidad de los productos y el comportamiento en servicio de los mismos. Estos procesos de soldadura representan una parte muy significativa del coste de producción y las técnicas que se emplean son muy variadas (arco, gas, plasma, resistencia, láser, etc.). El objetivo global de este proyecto es la realización práctica y puesta en marcha de 5 procedimientos de calibración, que abarquen las distintas magnitudes críticas susceptibles de calibración (magnitudes eléctricas, velocidad de hilo, presión, caudal de gas y control dimensional), en función del tipo de proceso de soldadura y máquina utilizada

    Homoclinic organization in the Hindmarsh-Rose model: a three parameter study

    Bursting phenomena are found in a wide variety of fast–slow systems. In this article, we consider the Hindmarsh–Rose neuron model, where, as it is known in the literature, there are homoclinic bifurcations involved in the bursting dynamics. However, the global homoclinic structure is far from being fully understood. Working in a three-parameter space, the results of our numerical analysis show a complex atlas of bifurcations, which extends from the singular limit to regions where a fast–slow perspective no longer applies. Based on this information, we propose a global theoretical description. Surfaces of codimension-one homoclinic bifurcations are exponentially close to each other in the fast–slow regime. Remarkably, explained by the specific properties of these surfaces, we show how the Hindmarsh–Rose model exhibits isolas of homoclinic bifurcations when appropriate two-dimensional slices are considered in the three-parameter space. On the other hand, these homoclinic bifurcation surfaces contain curves corresponding to parameter values where additional degeneracies are exhibited. These codimension-two bifurcation curves organize the bifurcations associated with the spike-adding process and they behave like the “spines-of-a-book,” gathering “pages” of bifurcations of periodic orbits. Depending on how the parameter space is explored, homoclinic phenomena may be absent or far away, but their organizing role in the bursting dynamics is beyond doubt, since the involved bifurcations are generated in them. This is shown in the global analysis and in the proposed theoretical scheme.R.     On the quest for In Vitro Platelet Production by Re-Tailoring the Concepts of Megakaryocyte Differentiation

    The demand of platelet transfusions is steadily growing worldwide, inter-donor variation, donor dependency, or storability/viability being the main contributing factors to the current global, donor-dependent platelet concentrate shortage concern. In vitro platelet production has been proposed as a plausible alternative to cover, at least partially, the increasing demand. However, in practice, such a logical production strategy does not lack complexity, and hence, efforts are focused internationally on developing large scale industrial methods and technologies to provide efficient, viable, and functional platelet production. This would allow obtaining not only sufficient numbers of platelets but also functional ones fit for all clinical purposes and civil scenarios. In this review, we cover the evolution around the in vitro culture and differentiation of megakaryocytes into platelets, the progress made thus far to bring the culture concept from basic research towards good manufacturing practices certified production, and subsequent clinical trial studies. However, little is known about how these in vitro products should be stored or whether any safety measure should be implemented (e.g., pathogen reduction technology), as well as their quality assessment (how to isolate platelets from the rest of the culture cells, debris, microvesicles, or what their molecular and functional profile is).     Textural signatures of sediment supply in gravel-bed rivers: Revisiting the armour ratio

    The surface of the streambed in gravel-bed rivers is commonly coarser than the underlying bed material. This surface coarsening, or ‘armouring’, is usually described by means of the ratio between surface and subsurface grain-size metrics (the ‘armour ratio’). Such surface coarsening is typical of river reaches that are degrading due to a deficit in sediment supply (e.g. gravel-bed reaches below dams or lakes), but non-degrading gravel-bed streams may also exhibit some degree of armouring in relation to specific hydrological patterns. For instance, selective transport during the recession limbs of long lasting floods may coarsen the bed more significantly than flash floods. Consequently, regional differences in bed coarsening should exist, reflecting in turn the variability in sediment and water regimes. In this paper, we explore the trends linking armour ratios to sediment supply, taking into account the differences in hydrological context. We based our analysis on a large data set of bedload and grain size measurements from 49 natural gravel-bed streams and four flume experiments compiled from the scientific literature. Our main outcome documents how the balances between sediment yields and transport capacities have a quantifiable reflection on the armour ratios measured in the field: we report statistically significant correlations between bedload fluxes and surface grain-size, and an asymptotic rise in armour ratios with the decline of sediment supply. Hydrological controls are also observed. Additionally, the trends observed in the field data are comparable to those previously documented in flume experiments with varying sediment feed. In this regard, different kinds of bedforms and particle arrangements have been commonly described with progressive reductions in sediment inputs and the subsequent coarsening of the streambed. Hence, armour ratios serve as a proxy for the general organization of the streambed of gravel-bed streams, and our results quantify this streambed adjustment to the dominant sediment regime.Programa Clarín (FICYT)-Marie Curie COFUND (ACB17-44) del Principado de Asturias.     Truncated aptamers as selective receptors in a gluten sensor supporting direct measurement in a deep eutectic solvent

    Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays are currently the most popular methods to quantify gluten in foods. Unfortunately, the antibodies used as specific receptors in such methods are not compatible with the usual solvents for the extraction of gluten proteins. In consequence, commercial tests require a high dilution of the sample after the extraction, increasing the limit of quantification and decreasing convenience. In this work, we have rationally truncated an aptamer capable of recognizing gliadin in a deep eutectic solvent (DES). The truncated aptamer is a 19-nucleotides-long DNA that minimizes self-hybridization, allowing the development of an electrochemical sandwich-based sensor for the quantification of gluten in the DES ethaline. The sensor incorporates two identical biotin-labeled truncated aptamers, one of which is immobilized on a carbon screen-printed electrode and the other reports the binding of gliadin after incubation in streptavidin-peroxidase. This sensor can detect gliadin in DES, with a dynamic range between 1-100 μg/L and an intra-assay coefficient of variation of 11%. This analytical performance allows the quantification of 20 μg of gluten/kg of food when 1 g of food is extracted with 10 mL of ethaline. We demonstrate the ability of this method to achieve the measurement of gluten in food samples, after the extraction with pure ethaline.     Acerca de la heterogeneidad léxica del siciliano contemporáneo: Influjos griego, árabe y otras influencias menores

    Even if the use of Sicilian has been linked to traditional lore on too many occasions, Sicilian has been a decisive language in the development of the Sicilian people, a community that still uses it nowadays as a sign of identity. As a matter of fact, the use of Sicilian is more and more frequent in contemporary insular literature, which represents a reappraisal of an Italic linguistic variant that reflects in a true, reliable way the defining linguistic features of Sicily. Aware of this situation, the introduction of this article highlights the linguistic and cultural relevance of Sicilian, conspicuous in it being used by the main intellectuals of the island. This is the literary technique that is present in L’Assaggiatrice (2007), the debut work of Giuseppina Torregrossa, an author who uses this book to portray her homeland from a linguistic viewpoint, including Sicilian words both from a Romance origin as well as others coming from Greek, Arabic and other lesser sources. The methodology followed is based on the detection and compilation of the Sicilian dialect expressions used by Torregrossa in L’Assaggiatrice, words analyzed from a semantic and etymological perspective that have revealed the extent to which Greek, Arabic, Turkish and Gothic influences –without neglecting items of unknown origin or formed from onomatopoeia– have been key to the current lexical configuration of the island.El siciliano ha sido una lengua clave en el devenir del pueblo sículo, una comunidad que aún hoy la utiliza como signo de identidad pese a que, en múltiples ocasiones, su uso haya quedado reducido a un ámbito puramente folclórico. En cualquier caso, el empleo del siciliano es cada vez más frecuente en la literatura insular contemporánea, un modo de revalorizar una variante lingüística itálica que refleja de forma real y fidedigna las características idiomáticas definitorias de Sicilia. Atentos a esta coyuntura, la introducción de este artículo pone de manifiesto la relevancia lingüística y cultural del siciliano, patente en su utilización por parte de los principales intelectuales de la isla. Esta técnica literaria está presente en L’Assaggiatrice (2007), primera obra de Giuseppina Torregrossa, una autora que se sirve de este libro para retratar lingüísticamente su tierra natal, usando tanto voces sicilianas procedentes del ámbito romance como otras procedentes del griego, del árabe y de otras influencias menores. La metodología empleada se basa en la localización y en la recopilación de los dialectalismos utilizados por Torregrossa en L’Assaggiatrice, voces analizadas desde una perspectiva semántica y etimológica que han revelado hasta qué punto las influencias griega, arábiga, turca y gótica –sin descuidar las palabras de origen desconocido o formadas a partir de onomatopeyas– han sido sustanciales en la actual configuración léxica de la isla

    Informe final del programa asturias dentro de la línea 1 lanzamiento y consolidación de las líneas de actividad del centro del "Programa Asturias" de ayudas económicas a Centros Tecnológicos y Centros de Apoyo a la Innovación Tecnológica en el Principado de Asturias durante el periodo 2018-2020A search and selection of healthy and nutritionally and technologically appropriate ingredients has been carried out to reconstitute food matrices of animal origin with others suitable for the vegan and vegetarian community. First, characterizing those products of animal origin that the vegan and vegetarian market demands as substitutes, paying special attention to the exhaustive search for ingredients with technological and functional capacity with which prototypes can be developed. After that, different technological process strategies were carried out to give rise to structures similar to those produced by foods of animal origin and with a palatability and flavor that resemble them. Subsequently, a preliminary characterization of the tests was carried out both at the organoleptic level and at the physical-chemical level, to assess their acceptance and study the needs of incorporation of certain nutrients based on the composition of products of animal origin that they intend to simulate. In the latter case, a study was carried out on the forms of incorporation of these nutrients in the matrices, either through the use of carbohydrate-based bulking agents (hydrocolloids) that can be used as a gelling agent and allows the retention of the ingredients they contain. the nutrients to be added, or the use of techniques that protect said compounds from oxidative phenomena and promote bioavailability (use of microencapsulates), all depending on the matrix and the technological processes to obtain them. Primero caracterizando esos productos de origen animal que el mercado vegano y vegetariano demanda como sustitutivos, prestando especial atención en la búsqueda exhaustiva de ingredientes con capacidad tecnológica y funcional con los que se pueda desarrollar los prototipos. tras ello se realizaron las diferentes estrategias de proceso tecnológico para dar lugar a estructuras similares a las producidas por alimentos de origen animal y con una palatabilidad y flavor que se asemejen a ellos. seguidamente se realizó una caracterización preliminar de las pruebas tanto a nivel organoléptico como a nivel físico-químico, para valorar su aceptación y estudiar las necesidades de incorporación de determinados nutrientes en función de la composición de productos de origen animal a los que pretenden simular. En este último caso se realizó un estudio sobre las formas de incorporación de esos nutrientes en las matrices, bien a través del empleo de agentes de carga de base carbohidratos (hidrocoloides) que se pueda usar como gelificante y permita la retención de los ingredientes que contienen los nutrientes a añadir, o bien el uso de técnicas que protejan dichos compuestos de fenómenos oxidativos y favorezca la biodisponibilidad (uso de microencapsulados), todo ello en función de la matriz y los procesos tecnológicos para la obtención de las mismas. Por último se realizó para esas matrices desarrolladas y enriquecidas un estudio de biodisponibilidad y bioaccesibilidad con el objetivo de valorar la eficacia de los compuestos añadidos y obtener productos saludables y nutricionalmente completos
