Representaciones de la figura autorial en el cine: el escritor como personaje
Get PDF349 páginasThe filmic body of work in Representations of the Authorial Figure in Cinema: the Writer as a Character –whose chronology covers mostly from the last decade of the twentieth century to the year 2017– addresses how cinema has portrayed the literary author. Structured in five chapters, the first one («From Modernity to Postmodernism») presents postmodernism as the theoretical framework that –once modernity is defined– encompasses the analysis of the selected stories. Based on the works by Habermas, Benjamin, Ritzer, Taylor or Eco, we explain the anthropological, sociological and artistic dimension of modernity as a project built on the empirical knowledge, the rise of feelings as part of the subject’s configuration and the search for creative independence. As far as postmodernism is concerned, Lyotard defines it as the moment where «the narrative function is losing its functors, its great hero, its great dangers, its great voyages, its great goal». However, despite the vagueness of its true nature –marked by the social networks representing the rhizomatic reality of Deleuze and Guattari–, it is possible to question the strength of its rupture with modernity. According to Lipovetsky, the subsequent hypermodernity would be distinguished by an increase in individual anxiety –revealed in the writer’s block suffered by screenwriters, novelists, poets and playwrights–.
This theoretical framework consolidates the second chapter of the thesis («The Postmodern Subject»). Based on Jameson, Ritzer or Charles, we reflect upon the alleged dissolution of originality into fashion, and we turn to Sibilia and Rodríguez Ibáñez in order to deal with the privacy’s trivializing in the digital era. For their part, we also describe the foucauldian notions of self-care which, since Graeco-Roman antiquity, have endured to the present day and, along with Augé, explain the link between the subject and the postmodern spaces.
Four out of the six films selected for the third chapter («Screenwriters: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood») are set on the classical period of the Mecca of cinema, whose labour context is elaborated in Banks’ book. The fight between the material need and the preservation of artistic integrity is common to the fourth chapter –focused on the novelists–, where the works of Balló, Bergala and Pérez about audiovisual seriality are essential to analyse the films. Also, Bourdieu’s and Zafra’s ideas on precariousness and the symbolic recognition received by feminised jobs complement those of Zecchi regarding visual representation of women’s bodies, as well as Gilbert’s and Gubar’s related to masculinity and authorship; to that we add bibliography which covers specifically some of the films. Finally, the last chapter collects examples of poets and playwrights; in the first case, we underline the simultaneity of everyday elements (Paterson and Poetry) with those linked to the supernatural (mother!), whereas playwrights are noted for their resolution in carrying on with their projects against any adversity –writer’s block in Synecdoche, New York, and the meddling of the Mob in Bullets over Broadway–.Fundación Oriol-Urquijo /
Programa Severo Ochoa de ayudas predoctorales para la investigación y docencia del Principado de AsturiasEl corpus fílmico de Representaciones de la figura autorial en el cine: el escritor como personaje (cuya cronología comprende mayoritariamente desde la última década del siglo XX hasta el año 2017) aborda cómo el séptimo arte ha retratado al autor literario. Estructurada en cinco capítulos, el primero de ellos («De la modernidad a la hipermodernidad») presenta la posmodernidad como el marco teórico que engloba el análisis de las narraciones seleccionadas –previa definición de la modernidad–. A partir de los trabajos de Habermas, Benjamin, Ritzer, Taylor o Eco, se expone la dimensión antropológica, sociológica y artística de lo moderno como proyecto construido sobre el saber empírico, el auge de los sentimientos en la configuración del sujeto y la búsqueda de la autonomía creativa. Respecto de la posmodernidad, Lyotard la define como el momento en que «la función narrativa pierde sus functores, el gran héroe, los grandes peligros, los grandes periplos y el gran propósito». No obstante, pese a la indeterminación de su auténtica naturaleza (marcada por las redes sociales que encarnan la realidad rizomática de Deleuze y Guattari), es posible cuestionar la contundencia de su ruptura con la modernidad. La hipermodernidad subsiguiente se caracterizaría, según Lipovetsky, por un incremento en la angustia individual –manifestada en el bloqueo creativo que experimentan tanto guionistas como novelistas, poetas y dramaturgos–.
Este marco teórico cimenta el segundo capítulo de la tesis («El sujeto posmoderno»). A partir de Jameson, Ritzer o Charles, se reflexiona sobre la supuesta disolución de la originalidad en la moda, y se recurre a Sibilia y Rodríguez Ibáñez para tratar la trivialización de la intimidad en la era digital. Por su parte, se explican las nociones foucaultianas de cuidado individual que, desde la Antigüedad grecolatina, han perdurado en el tiempo y, junto con Augé, presentan el vínculo entre el individuo y los espacios de la posmodernidad.
En el tercer capítulo («Guionistas: érase una vez en Hollywood»), cuatro de los seis filmes seleccionados están ambientados en el periodo clásico de la meca del cine, cuyo contexto laboral se explica mediante la obra de Banks. La lucha entre la necesidad material y la preservación de la integridad artística es común al cuarto capítulo –centrado en los novelistas–, donde los trabajos de Balló, Bergala y Pérez sobre serialidad audiovisual son esenciales para analizar las obras citadas. Por su parte, las ideas de Bourdieu y Zafra acerca de la precariedad y el reconocimiento simbólico al trabajo feminizado complementan las de Zecchi sobre la representación visual del cuerpo femenino, así como las de Gilbert y Gubar en cuanto a masculinidad y autoría; a ellos se añade bibliografía que trata específicamente algunas de las obras utilizadas. Finalmente, el quinto capítulo recoge ejemplos cinematográficos de poetas y dramaturgos; en el caso de los poetas, se subraya la compaginación de elementos cotidianos (Paterson y Poesía) con aquellos ligados a lo sobrenatural (madre!), mientras que los dramaturgos destacan por su empeño en mantener sus proyectos frente a cualquier adversidad –el bloqueo creativo en Synecdoche, New York, y la intromisión de la mafia en Balas sobre Broadway–

Role of the RANK/RANKL/OPG and Wnt/β‑Catenin Systems in CKD Bone and Cardiovascular Disorders
Get PDFIn the course of chronic kidney disease (CKD), alterations in the bone-vascular axis augment the risk of bone loss, fractures, vascular and soft tissue calcification, left ventricular hypertrophy, renal and myocardial fibrosis, which markedly increase morbidity and mortality rates. A major challenge to improve skeletal and cardiovascular outcomes in CKD patients requires a better understanding of the increasing complex interactions among the main modulators of the bone-vascular axis. Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH), phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), calcidiol, calcitriol and Klotho are involved in this axis interact with RANK/RANKL/OPG system and the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. The RANK/RANKL/OPG system controls bone remodeling by inducing osteoblast synthesis of RANKL and downregulating OPG production and it is also implicated in vascular calcification. The complexity of this system has recently increased due the discovery of LGR4, a novel RANKL receptor involved in bone formation, but possibly also in vascular calcification. The Wnt/β-catenin pathway plays a key role in bone formation: when this pathway is activated, bone is formed, but when it is inhibited, bone formation is stopped. In the progression of CKD, a downregulation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway has been described which occurs mainly through the not coincident elevations of sclerostin, Dickkopf1 (Dkk1) and the secreted Frizzled Related Proteins (sFRPs). The non-invasive diagnosis of bone disorders in CKD
Get PDFAbnormal bone metabolism is an integral part of the chronic kidney disease-mineral bone disorder (CKD-MBD). For several reasons, the difficult bone compartment was neglected for some time, but there has been renewed interest as a result of the conception of bone as a new endocrine organ, the increasing recognition of the cross-talk between bone and vessels, and, especially, the very high risk of osteoporotic fractures (and associated mortality) demonstrated in patients with CKD. Therefore, it has been acknowledged in different guidelines that action is needed in respect of fracture risk assessment and the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis in the context of CKD and CKD-MBD, even beyond renal osteodystrophy. These updated guidelines clearly underline the need to improve a non-invasive approach to these bone disorders in order to guide treatment decisions aimed at not only controlling CKD-MBD but also decreasing the risk of fracture. In this report, we review the current role of the most often clinically used or promising biochemical circulating biomarkers such as parathyroid hormone, alkaline phosphatases, and other biochemical markers of bone activity as alternatives to some aspects of bone histomorphometry. We also mention the potential role of classic and new imaging techniques for CKD patients. Information on many aspects is still scarce and heterogeneous, but many of us consider that it is indeed time for action, recognizing our definitely limited ability to base certain treatment decisions only on our current non-comprehensive knowledge
