augment the risk of bone loss, fractures, vascular and soft tissue calcification, left
ventricular hypertrophy, renal and myocardial fibrosis, which markedly increase
morbidity and mortality rates.
A major challenge to improve skeletal and cardiovascular outcomes in CKD patients
requires a better understanding of the increasing complex interactions among the main
modulators of the bone-vascular axis. Serum Parathyroid hormone (PTH), phosphorus
(P), calcium (Ca), fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), calcidiol, calcitriol and Klotho
are involved in this axis interact with RANK/RANKL/OPG system and the Wnt/β-
catenin pathway.
The RANK/RANKL/OPG system controls bone remodelling by inducing osteoblast
synthesis of RANKL and downregulating OPG production and it is also is implicated in
vascular calcification. The complexity of this system has recently increased due the
discovery of LGR4, a novel RANKL receptor involved in bone formation, but possibly
also in vascular calcification.
The Wnt/β-catenin pathway plays a key role in bone formation, when this pathway is
activated bone is formed, when it is inhibited, bone formation is stopped. In the
progression of CKD, a downregulation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway has been
described which occurs mainly through the not coincident elevations of sclerostin,
Dickkopf1 (Dkk1) and the secreted Frizzled Related Proteins (sFRPs).
This review analyses the interactions of PTH, P, Ca, FGF23, calcidiol, calcitriol and
Klotho with the RANKL/RANKL/OPG system and the Wnt/β-catenin, pathway and their
implications in bone and cardiovascular disorders in CK
Molecularly imprinted polymer-based electrochemical sensors for environmental analysis
The ever-increasing presence of contaminants in environmental waters is an alarming issue, not only because of their harmful effects in the environment but also because of their risk to human health. Pharmaceuticals and pesticides, among other compounds of daily use, such as personal care products or plasticisers, are being released into water bodies. This release mainly occurs through wastewater since the treatments applied in many wastewater treatment plants are not able to completely remove these substances. Therefore, the analysis of these contaminants is essential but this is difficult due to the great variety of contaminating substances. Facing this analytical challenge, electrochemical sensing based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) has become an interesting field for environmental monitoring. Benefiting from their superior chemical and physical stability, low-cost production, high selectivity and rapid response, MIPs combined with miniaturized electrochemical transducers offer the possibility to detect target analytes in-situ. In most reports, the construction of these sensors include nanomaterials to improve their analytical characteristics, especially their sensitivity. Moreover, these sensors have been successfully applied in real water samples without the need of laborious pre-treatment steps. This review provides a general overview of electrochemical MIP-based sensors that have been reported for the detection of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, heavy metals and other contaminants in water samples in the past decade. Special attention is given to the construction of the sensors, including different functional monomers, sensing platforms and materials employed to achieve the best sensitivity. Additionally, several parameters, such as the limit of detection, the linear concentration range and the type of water samples that were analysed are compiled

This article presents a study of the teaching of the contemporary music repertoire written for flute in the professional conservatories located in the north of Spain, specifically in the autonomous communities of El Principado de Asturias, Castilla y León, Cantabria, La Rioja and la Comunidad Foral de Navarra. A review of the didactic programs on the transverse flute subject has been carried out in order to research which are the orientational pieces of music framed in the period since 1936 as contemporary music. Likewise, a survey addressed to teachers has been proposed in order to know their perspective on this topic.
The effect of pasteurization in the expression of bovine milk microRNA
The edaphoclimatic conditions in Asturias (northwest Spain) enable the presence of milk production systems oscillating between farms based on grazing and low consumption of conserved feed and forages as well as a low density of
animals per surface, and intensive farms with confined animals, with a higher density, and higher consumption of
conserved feed and forages. Identifying milk according to its origin is a useful way to highlight the positive effects
of grazing farms on the environment, milk quality, animal welfare, and social aspects. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are
21-25-nucleotide small RNAs that perform various functions within cells, including gene expression regulation. They can be profiled through microarray, quantitative real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR), or sequencing.
Their expressions vary according to the genetic context and external factors to the animal (feeding, handling, etc.).
Besides, these molecules are resistant to adverse physicochemical conditions, which make them potential biomarkers. In previous studies, a set of miRNAs from raw milk with differential expression according to some ingredients of the diet were determined. However, it is important to evaluate the effect of technological treatments, in milk factories,(pasteurization, fermentation, sterilization, etc.) on these miRNAs. Furthermore, taking into account the potential bioactivity of milk according to its miRNAs content, it is important to assess miRNAs milk content intended for human consumption. In the present study, we analysed the effect of pasteurization on the miRNAs determined as biomarkers.
For that purpose, the expression of nine miRNAs was analysed in the same volume of twenty tank milk samples before and after pasteurization. The expression analysis of the different biomarkers in pasteurized and non-pasteurized milk showed that the expression of most miRNAs was lower after pasteurization, although without significant differences
(P<0.05). Moreover, pasteurization of raw milk affects differently fat and cell fraction. These results suggest that

Update in Biomolecular and Genetic Bases of Bicuspid Aortopathy
Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) associated with aortopathy is the most common congenital heart disease in the general population. Far from being a simple harmless valve malformation, it can be a complex and heterogeneous disease and a source of chronic and acute pathology (early valvular disease, aneurysm, dissection). In the previous years, intense research has been carried out to find out and understand its mechanisms, but the pathophysiology of the disease is still not fully understood and many questions remain open. Recent studies have discovered several genetic mutations involved in the development of valvular and aortic malformations, but still cannot explain more than 5–10% of cases. Other studies have also focused on molecular alterations and cellular processes (TGF-β pathway, microRNAs, degradation of the extracellular matrix, metalloproteinases, etc.), being a field in constant search and development, looking for a therapeutic target to prevent the development of the disease. Increased knowledge about this multifaceted disorder, derived from both basic and clinical research, may influence the diagnosis, follow-up, prognosis, and therapies of affected patients in the near future. This review focuses on the latest and outstanding developments on the molecular and genetic investigations of the bicuspid aortopath
