OPTIMIZATION OF WIND TURBINE AIRFOILS USING GEOMETRIES BASED ON HUMPBACK WHALE FLIPPERS
In this work, CFD simulations have been carried out with two different symmetrical and asymmetrical airfoils, NACA 63-021 and FX-63-137, to study the influence of adding tubercles to the airfoil on lift, drag and stall angle. The main objective of this investigation is the possible application of these modified airfoils to wind turbines. International Congress Energy and Environment Engineering and Managemen
Pd-Catalyzed autotandem C-C/C-C bond forming reactions with tosylhydrazones: Synthesis of spirocycles with extended π-conjugation
Abstract: The Pd-catalyzed reaction between 2,2’-dibromobiphenyls
and related systems with tosylhydrazones gives rise to new p-extended conjugated polycarbo- and heterocycles
through an autotandem process involving a cross coupling
reaction followed by an intramolecular Heck cyclization. The reaction shows wide scope regarding both coupling
partners. Cyclic and acyclic tosylhydrazones can participate
in the process. Additionally,a variety of aromatic and heteroaromatic dibromoderivatives have been employed,
leading to an array of diverse scaffolds featuring a fluorene
or acridine central nucleus, and containing binaphthyl, thiophene, benzothiophene
and indole moieties. The application
to appropriate tetrabrominated systems led to greater structural
complexity through two consecutive autotandem cascades.
The photophysical properties of selected compounds
were studied through their absorption and emission spectra.
Fluorescence molecules featuring very high quantum yields
were identified, showing the potential of this methodology
in the development of molecules with interesting optoelectronic
properties

Surface treatment of polyimide substrates for the transfer and multitransfer of graphene films
This work explores the use of polyimide substrates for the development of flexible graphene-based devices. Single layer graphene was synthesized by chemical vapour deposition and transferred to untreated and treated polyimide substrates. Of the four different surface treatments, the tetrafluoromethane/oxygen plasma and, especially, hydrochloric acid bath treatments showed the best performance, as they reduced the resistivity of the graphene samples by as much as 46%. At the same time, resistivity was also reduced by as much as 96% due to the increase in the graphene coverage area as a result of repeating the transfer process up to four times. The combination of HCl treatment and transfer iteration led to the samples acquiring a sheet resistance of 800 Ω/sq. To the best of our knowledge, this is the lowest value ever reported in the literature for graphene samples on conventional flexible polymeric substrates and, in particular, in polyimide, the most widely used material for flexible applications. This result represents a major contribution to the development of graphene-based flexible devices.European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement no. 600849 (INSIDDE Project). Simulations of hybrid system varying solar radiation and microturbine response time
Hybrid power systems, such as combinations of renewable power sources with intermittent
power production and non-renewable power sources, theoretically increase the reliability and thus integration of renewable sources in the electrical system.
However, a recent increase in the number of hybrid installations has sparked interest
in the effects of their connection to the grid, especially in remote areas. This paper
analyses a photovoltaic-gas microturbine hybrid system dimensioned to be installed
in La Paz (Mexico). The research presented in this paper studies and quantifies the
effects on the total electric power produced, varying both the solar radiation and the gas microturbine response time. The gas microturbine and the photovoltaic panels
are modelled using Matlab/Simulink software, obtaining a platform where different tests to simulate real conditions have been executed. They consist of diverse ramps
of irradiance that replicate solar radiation variations, and different microturbine
response times reproduced by the time constants of a first order transfer function
that models the microturbine dynamic response. The results obtained show that when
radiation varies quickly it does not produce significant differences in the power
guarantee or the microturbine gas consumption, to any microturbine response time.
However, these two parameters are highly variable with smooth radiance variations.
The maximum total power variation decreases greatly as the radiation variation gets
lower. In addition, by decreasing the microturbine response time, it is possible to
appreciably increase the power guarantee although the maximum power variation and gas consumption increase. Only in cases of low radiation variation is there no appreciable difference in the maximum power variation obtained by the different turbine response times.Principality of Asturia
De Talavera al mundo. La influencia de la cerámica de Talavera de la Reina en el continente americano
Potteries from Talavera de la Reina (Toledo, Spain) have had a great influence in many productions, not only within the Iberian Peninsula, but through the World. In the sixteenth century, Talavera will become a major production center of majolica ware. It was on the aesthetic vanguard of peninsular productions with its new decorations. As a result of the influence of potteries from Talavera de la Reina, in Mexico arose a new ceramic known as talaveras. These pieces are a consequence of the stylistic streams that converge on the American continent, ranging from China to Europe. One of the production centers of these majolica ware will be the state of Puebla in Mexico. Composite Material for Thermochemical Energy Storage Using CaO/ Ca(OH)2
This work describes a material that has improved mechanical and reactivity properties for use in thermochemical
energy storage systems based on CaO/Ca(OH)2 reversible reactions. The composite material uses sodium silicate as a binder of active CaO particles. The observed mechanical stability of the material is due to the formation of hard Ca silicates resulting from the reaction of the binder with the exterior of the CaO particles. A screening of the main synthesis variables affecting the
composite was carried out, including Ca precursors of different particle size, a range of molar Ca/Si ratios, as well as the curing and calcination conditions. The most suitable material (containing CaCO3 with a particle size of 36−63 μm as calcium precursor and a molar Ca/Si ratio of 4.8−6.2, calcined in air at 850 °C) was tested over many hydration/dehydration cycles (up to 500) in a thermogravimetric apparatus. The material sustained high molar hydration conversions (between 0.6 and 0.7) and crushing strength values of >2 N after 200 cycles, when dehydrated in pure steam.European Commission bajo el 7th Framework Program (StoRRe Project No. GA 282677).
