Thesis is one of the evaluations of learning for students. In Universitas Budi Luhur (UBL), especially in the Informatics Department, the thesis is one of the requirements for graduating students to obtain a Bachelor of Computer degree. In each semester, the number of Informatics Department students who take thesis is around 200-300 students. The problem that is still faced is that student graduation in the thesis is not optimal. Student failures in the thesis are allegedly related to several technical and nontechnical factors. In this study, an analysis using data mining algorithms was carried out to determine the factors that influence student graduation in the thesis. The dataset obtained from the Informatics Department students who took a thesis in the 2016/2017, and 2017/2018. In order to obtain the right classification method, this research was tested with three classification methods, namely Decision Tree, Naïve Bayes, and k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN). The results of the comparison of the values of accuracy, precision, and recall indicate that the kNN algorithm has advantages, so this method is chosen to predict graduation. In this study also developed an application for predicting graduation of students' thesis by applying the kNN classification method. The test results showed an accuracy of 78.20%, precision of 80.32%, and recall of 96.49%. This research is expected to be useful for improving the service quality of student thesi

    Get PDF
By definition, a mobile robot is a type of robotthat has capability to move in a certain kind of environmentand generally used to accomplish certain tasks with somedegrees of freedom (DoF). Applications of mobile robots coverboth industrial and domestic area. It may help to reduce risk tohuman being and to the environment. Mobile robot is expectedto operate safely where it must stay away from hazards such asobstacles. Therefore, a controller needs to be designed to makethe system robust and adaptive. In this study, PID controller ischosen to control a mobile robot. PID is considered as simpleyet powerful controller for many kind of applications. Indesigning PID, user needs to set appropriate controller gain toachieve a desired performance of the control system, in termsof time response and its steady state error. Here, anoptimization algorithm called Bat Algorithm with Mutation(BAM) is proposed to optimize the value of PID controller gainfor mobile robot. This algorithm is compared with a wellknownoptimization algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO). The result shows that BAM has better performancecompared to PSO in term of overshoot percentage and steadystate error. BAM gives 2.29% of overshoot and 2.94% ofsteady state error. Meanwhile, PSO gives 3.07% of overshootand 3.72% of steady state error

Interconnected system between computationand physical process (Cyber-Physical Systems) has been widelyused in industrial processes. In CPS-based industrial process, sensors, controllers, and actuators are connected into acommunication network. The communication network mayintroduce delay time uncertainties due to shared resources andload traffic in the network. Furthermore, the nonlinear timevaryingcharacteristic of batch distillation column may causesanother uncertainties to take into account in control systemdesign. Parameter model and delay process uncertainty isintroduced due to linearized system approximation thatunmodeled high-frequency dynamics. The dynamicuncertainty on both I/O channel are also introduced to thesystem uncertainty. In this paper, robust PI and PID controllerusing AMIGO method with appropriate weighting function isdesigned to guarantee robust stability spesification of batchdistillation column. The impact of system uncertainties toclosed-loop system performances such as peak overshoot andintegral error is investigated. MATLAB/Simulink simulationis used to validate the methods before its implementation inCPS-based batch distillation column. Based on simulation, theproposed robust PI/PID controller can guarantee robuststability of system compared to conventional PID controller.Furthermore, the robust PI/PID controller can improve closedloopsystem performances compared to conventional PID

    Get PDF
The increasing demand of wireless communication bandwidth due to advancement of IoT and smartphone technology, requires the new wireless communication technology that can provide high speed wireless communication. The Visible Light Communication (VLC) has been proven can provide multi gigabit wireless communication throughput using unlicensed visible light spectrum. Therefore, VLC is a promising technology to solve bandwidth limitation problem. In order to achieve high speed throughput, VLC signal processing has to be implemented using Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) technology. In this research, we develop a baseband processor architecture for VLC application. We use System on Chip (SoC) design approach to reduce design time and easy system integration to various applications. In order to increase spectrum efficiency, we utilize OFDM modulation scheme. Several OFDM processing blocks, such as synchronizer, FFT/IFFT, modulator, demodulator, are designed in the system. The real-time system performance is verified in FPGA based system prototyping. The design includes optical wireless front end module, baseband processing and network layer. The developed prototype shows a real-time performance for high speed internet access

    Get PDF
The detection of a hand movement beforehand can be a beneficent tool to control a prosthetic hand for upper extremity rehabilitation. To be able to achieve smooth control, the intention detection is acquired from the human body, especially from brain signal or electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. However, many constraints hamper the development of this brain-computer interface (BCI, especially for finger movement detection). Most of the researchers have focused on the detection of the left and right-hand movement. This article presents the comparison of various pattern recognition method for recognizing five individual finger movements, i.e., the thumb, index, middle, ring, and pinky finger movements. The EEG pattern recognition utilized common spatial pattern (CSP) for feature extraction. As for the classifier, four classifiers, i.e., random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), k-nearest neighborhood (kNN), and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) were tested and compared to each other. The experimental results indicated that the EEG pattern recognition with RF achieved the best accuracy of about 54%. Other published publication reported that the classification of the individual finger movement is still challenging and need more efforts to make the best performance

Implementation of MEMS Accelerometer for Velocity-based Seismic Sensor

    Get PDF
Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) accelerometer is commonly used as acceleration-based vibration sensor. The MEMS accelerometer is small device, simple in the implementation design, and relatively inexpensive. But in some fields of application, due to low frequency operation and also small magnitude of the measured signal, for example in seismology, velocity-based vibration sensor is usually more desirable than acceleration-based sensor. In this research, a velocity-based vibration sensor has been developed using MEMS Accelerometer device e.g. MMA7361L. The acceleration-based vibration signal from the MMA7361L is converted into a velocity-based vibration signal by using an integrator circuit module. This module is assembled by using a band-pass filter and an integral-amplifier. The laboratory test shows that the developed sensor system could detect both low and high-frequency vibration signals in velocity-based with good result. The sensor system has a frequency range of 0.02Hz to 148Hz. It is wider frequency than the geophone (seismic sensor), thus the velocity-based MEMS sensor system has capability for geophone replacement
