Vulnerability and Vulnerance: Marginalization of Women in 1 Timothy 2:12-15
Did 1 Timothy 2:12-15 serve to marginalize women? From a feminist and vulnerability standpoint, we suggest reinterpreting the text with using Leo G. Perdue Biblical Theology concept. In terms of vulnerance, Paul restricts the role of women for the sake of the salvation of the Christian community in Ephesus under the shepherding of Timothy. From a perspective of vulnerability, women\u27s restriction can be attributed to the issue of inequality, the hierarchical structure of control and subjugation by the wealthy during that era, and the susceptibility of women to be misled by heretical beliefs at the time. The passage 1 Timothy 2:12-15 provides insight into the cultural marginalization of women during that era. Therefore, the present-day Christian community must actively advocate for gender equality by addressing the underlying factors that contribute to the marginalization of women
Sus Oef as the Theology of Indonesian Ethnic Marriage Dowry
This research aims to show that the ethnic theology of wedding dowry builds the relationship between two prominent families as the foundation of society. The main issue from the previous research is economic instability for a household in marriage life. The original value of the wedding dowry in the Bone village, NTT, is to exhibit the reflection of the teaching from the forefathers to bond up the relative. The acknowledgment of the wedding dowry is the acceptance of the stranger into the big family as the expression of the building relative\u27s value. Therefore, Sus Oef – called – is the way of expressing the idea of reflecting on the ritual of the people in the Bone village among the society. Through the sociological religion method, this research is conducted to reveal the perspective emic of the issue. The sociological analysis helps this research to see how the anatomy of Sus Oef works in the light of the Biblical narrative. The result of this study is that religion leads to extensive family bonding in the wedding ceremony. Finally, the conclusion presents how religion legitimates the family\u27s bonding as the ethnic theological wedding dowry. The result of this study applies to church human resources education to understand the ethnic theology of wedding dowry as a part of cultural existence to recognize the extensive family bonding through the wedding dowry
The Ethical Values and Leadership Practices in Deuteronomy
A search for a philosophy of leadership has to begin with ontological and epistemological questions. The former deals with what leadership is and the latter is concerned with how one can know. Hence, this work engages in exploring the meaning, scope, and nature of leadership through the methods of analysing common words and metaphors of leadership in the Old Testament, particularly the Book of Deuteronomy. In addition, the research perspectives on the nature of leadership in the area of leadership studies are discussed to arrive at a more comprehensive understanding of the characteristics and functions of leadership. This article deals with the ethical values that lay the foundation for the leadership practices in Deuteronomy. In doing so, sources of moral courage will be discussed first, as people’s personal and corporate moral courage has to originate from certain concepts, which serve as a philosophical underpinning, driving leaders in the ethical directions of leadership practices. Next, leadership with a concern for people and ethics is discussed. The crux of the philosophy of Deuteronomy is that people should choose life by obeying the law of the Lord and avoid destruction that results from disobeying the law. Hence, leadership practices are there to create life or well-being for the people. Finally, there will be a study on how ethical practices shape society, with reference to Israelite society in the context of the narratives in the Book of Deuteronomy
Spiritual Education for Children as A Shared Responsibility Between Parents and The Church
Parents must nurture their children from their earliest days to know God personally. However, some parents sometimes do not realize this and neglect their responsibility. Thus, this study explores how parents and the church should develop a mutual partnership in children’s spiritual education. The author used a qualitative method with a literature approach to investigate the problem and propose suggestions. The conclusion was that the parent is the primary responsible party in educating children. But, they can not do this task independently without the church\u27s help. Since relying on Sunday School as part of the church’s responsibility for teaching children alone is not enough, the church could help them by providing training that educates parents to do their parental responsibilities. And to ensure that the education at home will overlap with church teaching, Sunday School teachers and parents as partners should develop mutual respect and communication. If everyone involved in children\u27s ministry, directly or indirectly, could cultivate this joint responsibility, it would help children grow in fear of God and be better people. As the future generation, improving the quality of our ministry for children will eventually create a better church, now and later
Christian Ethics toward Artificial Intelligence and Its Impacts on Humanity
Innovation in Artificial Intelligence raise a plethora of moral concerns, the majority of which are being thoughtfully explored by organizations ranging from small societal groups to large organizations and governments. Nevertheless, they raise ethical concerns that are not being adequately addressed. This research offers a comprehensive overview of the main ethical issues linked to the impact of Artificial Intelligence on human society from the perspective of Christian ethics. Christian ethics stresses human individuals’ intrinsic dignity as being made in the image of God (Imago Dei). It emphasizes the relevance of human dignity, well-being, and autonomy in the development and implementation of Artificial Intelligence. Having established a number of potential qualities of human identity, we then turn to the Scriptures in order to discover some biblical notions that may be helpful in addressing Artificial Intelligence and the meaning of being human, organized around the themes of creation, fall, and redemption. The report concludes with a call for accountability and humility
Theological Perspectives on Responses to Prayer Requests in WhatsApp Groups
The problem of this article speaks the importance of the essence of prayer in the Christian life. Praying is a valuable opportunity for believers. Humans can ask God for help with their life problems. Praying can be seen as a special place for believers to build close relationships with God. They can also utilise any technology service to connect and pray for each other such as through calling, sending letters or newsletters, and WhatsApp Group contemporary communication facilities. Through praying for each other, people are interconnected and dependent on God. The method used in this study is a descriptive method. Researchers investigate the text of Bible verses related to the importance of praying for others. This approach is taken to lay the Christian theological basis of prayer. The results show that praying for others is a Christian character. Because Christians are commanded by Christ to pray for each other. Praying for others reflects a Christian character that is firmly inherent in believers. Believers who submit prayer support show the plea is urgent and urgent. That need must be answered by responding and praying for it. In today\u27s context, WhatsApp Group facilities can be used as an effective and communicative means to convey prayer requests to and from others. The request encourages believers with sincere hearts to be enterprising and pray for each other
Role of Forgiveness in The Grief Process for Children in Crisis
Children are a group of people who often experience trauma, which then leads to a cycle of cycle. Various psychological help has been sought but has not addressed spiritual recovery. This study discusses forgiveness in the process of children who are in crisis so that spiritual development occurs in children. The author uses various library sources and analyzes the biblical text in discussing the topic. This study uses hermeneutical approaches to promoting biblical texts as applicable to everyday life. Forgiveness plays an essential role in the recovery process. Children need help identifying what they are grateful for regarding the forgiveness process. Gratitude produces liberation and leads to hope, thus leading to change thatresults in spiritual healing. To help children forgive, children need reconciliation with the creator. To meet this need, spiritual directors play an important role in assisting children to meet their spiritual needs. Spiritual directors can help traumatized children replace their distorted view of themselves, others, and God with a proper view of the truth. This study aims to involve the contribution of existing practical theology to propose the idea of the role of forgiveness in the grieving process for children experiencing a crisis
Digital Sin: A Theological Review of Human Sins through Audio-Visual in Digital Realm
The development of increasingly advanced Science and Technology has altered various aspects of human life. Whether consciously or not, this development has also impacted the spiritual component of humans. This article discusses how sin can enter human existence through the senses of hearing and sight, beginning with Eve in Genesis 3:15 and continuing to the present day with the widespread use of digital media. The method utilized is a literature review composed of books and journal articles. The findings of this study indicate that digital media can serve as a channel for sin. Humans can sin because of flawed hearing and words. Through the consumption of indecent materials such as pornography, and the unethical use of visual media, digital media sets up the potential for humans to feed their already sinful tendencies. This action demeans human dignity and undermines cherished Christian values. Sinful individuals require pastoral care. Understanding, support, guidance, prayer, prevention, and long-term recovery must be the focus of the ministry for those who have sinned through digital media use. Therefore, a pastor and pastoral counselors must understand the digital world and the challenges people confront in order to approach problems with wisdom and compassion
Christlikeness: An Attempt to Build Christian Spirituality for Indonesian Millennial Generation
Christlikeness is the essence of the Christian life. Efforts to build spirituality in the era of technological progress have been widely analyzed, including for the millennial generation but are more at the level of phenomena. This article aims to demonstrate that attempts to build spirituality for the millennial generation in accordance with their characteristic must be based on and simultaneously aimed at being in the Christlikeness. This article will employ the literature method from books and journal articles. Specifically, most of the journal articles will cover the research within the last 10 years. There are three stages of analysis carried out, namely:Â first, conducting a study on the characteristics of the millennial generation specifically in Indonesia, second, demonstrating the essence of spirituality which is Christlikeness by examining Luke 9:23, and thirdly efforts to build a spirituality that is relevant to the Christian millennial generation in Indonesia. Conclusions are the final part of this article. The implication of this research both theoretically and practically is addressed to the church, the parents, and Christian educators who deal with the millennials. There is an urgency for to understand the characteristics of the millennials that they can build their spirituality. Furthermore, all who deal with the millennials must provide a relevant context for the millennials such as technology, their spirit of freedom, the attachment to the family. The essence of spirituality which is Christlikeness must be delivered through all these characteristics
Integration of Christ\u27s Love in Family Discipleship to Overcome Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) in Generation Z
Generation Z (Gen Z) dominates Indonesia’s population, numbering 27.94%. Marked by their love for new technologies and fear of becoming “outdated”, these traits surely have a good impact on their development. However, these traits rise new negative impact: the fear of missing out (FOMO) which can lead to lower level of life satisfaction, psychological distress, and anxiety. Based on these problems, the study focuses on integrating the love of Christ in family discipleship to overcome FOMO in Gen Z. The authors used qualitative research approach by using literature review. Based on the review of various literature sources and idea framework building, the authors proposed three steps of discipleship in the family according to the love of Christ in overcoming FOMO. Firstly, discipleship is conducted by exposition to agape love concept, which has a role in shaping concept of self in the family environment. Gen Z is discipled by guiding them to receive God\u27s love that provides forgiveness and restoration for sinners. Secondly, discipleship is conducted in family by exposition to storge love concept. Parents provide guidance and education lovingly without having to arouse Gen Z’s anger. Third, discipleship is conducted by exposition to philia love concept, which occurs in an environment of friendship. The family becomes a common place to exhibit Christlikeness in an atmosphere of friendship. Parents become friends to Gen Z and help them experience character and spiritual growth like a friend.Al-Saggaf, Y., & O’Donnell, S. B. (2019).
