Easiness of Image Interpretation of Spot XS and Landsat TM for Urban Land Cover Object Identification
The study that has been out for URGE project “Remote sensing for urban study and landuse planning” is a especially the possibility and the easiness of interpretability. The easiness of interpretation of satellite image is influenced by sensor, and the physical condition of urban area. SPOT image recorded in 1996 and TM Landsat image recorded in 1994 by the process of digital image are used as the comparison of easiness of interpretation. The contras sharpening method using a filter, the arrangement of composite image, and multispectral classification is applied by respective image. The introduction of covered object of urban area is based on the introduction of spatial and spectral pattern. Visual and digital interpretation that based on multispectral classification has been done to get the accurateness of classification result. The result of this study shows that SPOT image has better detail information than TM Lansat image. But the spectral information of TM Lansat image has more varieties than that of SPOT image so that certain objects, especially straight appearance (street, river, etc) can be know more by TM Lansat
Potential Landuse and Food Production in Watershed Progo
This paper is an outcome of research concerning spatial differences in forms and coverage of land use in the Progo River Basin. At present the watershed is facing the problem of land use changes from agricultural to non-agriultural ones, leading to the situation of decreasing staple foods. This research is aimed at studying regional variation in the potentials of the research area of the production of staple foods according toland use forms and coverage. Informastion on land use forms and coverage are obtained from the statistical record issued by the Statistical Office of Central Java province and Yogyakarta Speial Provine. As the productivity data on every land use forms are not readily available, the assement on the regional potential is executed on the basis of land use intensity and its apability to produce staple foods. The research reveals that the greatest portion (59 %) of lands in 54 subdistrict in the watershed are highly potential for staple foods production and the rest (41 %) are not potential to moderately potential for staple foods production purpose. The potential for staple foods production in the upper part of the Progo river basin are higher than that in lower part ones. The presence on irrigated land is not always highly potential for staple food production. Although the availability of irrigation water is strongly decisive factor for food prodution (r = 0.661 significant at 99.99 percent), but the presence of built up areas are strongly dictated the potential for food production (r = -0,787 significant at 99.99 percent). The research further shows that the higher the potential for food production, the higher population size (r = 0.791) significant at 99.99 percent). In general it can be concluded that 1) the potentials for food production are determined by the available of irrigation water and the size of the built areas, and 2) the number of population is dictated by the presence of water and potentials for food production
Sustainable Landuse Model at Upper Cikapundung River – North Bandung
Land use in upper catchment of Cikapundung progressively do not in control, so that many land use disagree with required condition. The objectives of the research were to: 1) evaluating of existing land use suitability with to its land suitability; and 2) compiling simulation land use model which have been formulated to study the expense of conservation, beneficial crop type and conservation action alternative. In this research made three submodel (erosion submodel use USLE and Arsyad, runoff submodel use Bransby and Williams, and social economic submodel use B/C ratio and NPV); and than integrated to become one land use model in upper catchment by using computer program package “Poersim Version 2.5c”. The model is simulation by considering aspect land suitability, is then obtained by form land use sustainable. Land use in Cikapundung upper catchment equal to 70,52% disagree with land condition. The rate of occured erosion in dry land, pine forest and plantation of quinine have is abysmal of permissible erosion, while in natural forest, rice field, and grass land still is normal. Run off coefficient from all region per year go up equal to 0,3878%. And B/C dry land equal to 3,33. To maintain thickness of land and reducing runoff coefficient but admiting of to support life farmer, minimum 10% from rest of obtained production in using to defray activity of conservation. Crop vegetable type which still profit is potato, chickpea, and pepper so long as minimizing 5% from rest of obtained production to be used for the activity of conservation, appropriate action conservation type is credit terrace because can be done step by step every process farm so that farm can be exploited on an sustainable
The Effectiveness of Canopy Trees to Reduce Rainfall Acidity in the Industrial Area at Medan
The term of acid rain is referred to the mean rainfall with a pH less than 5,65. The element of Sox and Nox are the major sources of aid rain. These two elements are oxidized into SO4 and NO3 respectively in the air. Sulfate and Nitrate are water soluble and the primary sources of hydrogen ions in acid precipitation. Rain passing through a tree canopy may lose or gain mineral elements trough some combination of natural process of absorption and leaching. By this process, the canopy may reduce rainfall acidity and negatif effects of the acid rain which will enter into the soil. Due to characteristic differences among tree canopies, a study to evaluate effectiveness of the trees in reducing rainfall acidity was done. In this study, rainfall and troughfall were collected every single rain and the pH measure by portable pH-meter. Based on data collection during 3 months in Medan Industrial Estate, it found that the mean pH of rainfall was 5,15. The highest pH of throughfall was found from Gnetum gnemon, that was 5,70; following by Mimusops elengi, Filicium decipiens, Acacia mangium, and the lowest was Nephelium lappacum. G. Gnemon was able to reduce 11% of rainfall acidity, but N. Lappacum caused 13% increasing rainfall acidity. In this study, the main source of rainfall acidity was hidrogen from sulfate acid (54%), following by chloride acid (30%), and nitrate acid (16%)
The Zonation of Landslide Hazard at Kandangan, Temanggung, Central Java
The aim of the research are to measure the type of mass movement and landslide hazard zoning for settlement ite evaluation. Terrain unit and their characteristics are the main inputs. Terrain classification based on genetic, morphology, and lithology are important aspects in the mapping of terrain through aerial photo interpretation at scale 1 : 50.000. Sampling method is stratified random sampling. Data considered in this research consist of slope, soils, lithology, dissetion, lineament, land use, vegetation, morphometry of landslide. Laboratory analysis is done for soil physics determination. Scoring and addition method are applied in the landslide hazard zoning through GIS programme. The result of this research are that structural – denudational mountain unit shows highly landslide hazard with sil/debris slide, planar block slide as dominant processes, while in the structural – denudational hills and colluvial valley bottom and river terraces show moderately landslide hazard with soil/debris slide and soil creep as main processes and then in the peneplain and colluvial slope show low landslide hazard. The highly landslide hazard zone cover settlement at the area Krempong, Sucen, Karangseneng, Kedawung, and Margalelo
Spatial Function Diversity in Kampung Sangkrah, Surakarta City
The objective of this article is to understand the variety of space functions and the values underlying them, in kampung Sangkrah, Surakarta municipality. The study uses the inductive analysis based on the naturalistic method research. The result of the research shows that space in the kampung Sangkrah is multifunctional. The multifunction of space is resulted from the dialetical relationship between the relatively strong social relations and the limited space available to aommodate the various ativities of the kampung inhabitants. This dialetical relationship creates common norms called space tolerance, which the result in the variety of space function
Modeling Hot Spot Motor Vehicle Theft Crime in Relation to Landuse and Settlement Patterns
The crowd of Yogyakarta urban has impacted its surrounding area, including Depok sub district, which is indicated by the rising of physical development, for example education facilities and settlements. The progress does not only bring positive impact, but also negative impact for instance the rising of crime number i.e. motor vehicle robbery. The aims of this research are 1) mapping motor vehicle robbery data as the distribution map and identifying motor vehicle robbery hot spot base on distrbution map; and 2) studying the correlation of motor vehicle robbery hot spot with physical environment phenomena, i.e. land use type and settlement pattern. The research method consists of two parts; they are motor vehicle robbery cluster analysis and the relation of motor vehicle robbery and physical environment analysis. Motor vehicle robbery cluster analysis is using distribution data, which analyzes the distribution into motor vehicle robbery hot spot with nearest neighbor tehnique. Contingency coefficient and frequency distribution analysis is used to analyze the correlation of motor vehicle robbery hot spot and physical environment. Contingency coefficient is used to study the relation of motor vehicle robbery hot spot polygon with physical environment condition, whereas frequency distribution is used to study the distribution of motor vehicle robbery in the hot spot with physical environment condition. Physical environment which consists of land use type, housing density, house regularity pattern, and the average of building size, are obtained from interpretation of black and white panchromatic aerial photograph year 2000, in the scale 1 : 20.000. the most motor vehicle robbery hot spot is found on the settlement area, 68,3% from 378 motor vehicle robbery cases in the hot spot. The seond level is found on the education area (16.4%). The most motor vehicle hot spot in the settlement is found on the hight density and irregular settlement, which have big size buildings. The calculation of contingency coefficient shows that there was a significant correlation between motor vehicle robbery hot spot with land use type and settlement pattern, but it has low correlation value. It means that land use type and settlement pattern have weak influence to the hot spot existence
Groundwater Characteristic and Fresh Water Supplying System of the East Slope Merapi Volcano
slope of Merapi Volcano in Boyolali. The aims of this study are first to know the characteristic of groundwater in every morphological unit, second to know supplying system of fresh water in every each unit. The method used is survey method. The sampling use to know the characteristic groundwater both quality and quantity of the water, and supplying system of fresh by using area sampling. As basic of stratification of its region is morphological unit. Analysis method used is tabulation, laboratory analysis, and graphic analysis to describe its space. The result of the study shows that the quality of groundwater in every morphological unit is good enough, but in general the contents of element Ca, Mg, N03, CI, SO4, HCO3 shows that the lower the region is, the higher the content of the element . But if it is seen from the depth of its groundwater, so that the fluvial volcanic plain is the shallowest, then the fluvial volcanic foot plain and the last the volcanic foot area. Supplying system of fresh water, which derived from the dominant of well water, is especially used in morphological unit in fluvial "volcanic foot plain. The spring water is used by the population in the morphological unit in volcanic foot plain and then in morphological unit of fluvial volcanic foot plain. The population uses much rainwater in the morphological unit of volcanic foot plain
Mapping of Marine Area Boundary of Central Java Province using Differential GPS Survey Method
The development of GPS (Global Positioning System) technology which is measuring position by satellite, has taken a great metodology aspect of position on surface of earth. The standard GPS measurement takes an absolute positioning. To develop the accurate abd precision, it is used the differential method. Differential GPS measurement can be much more accurate than standard GPs measurement, wherever the method uses one receiver as base station/ reference and the other receiver as field station in a same time. That could reduce and eliminate drifts and errors. The aim of research is use the differential method of GPS survey to map the ocean boundary of Central Java Province. Physical data which neede are base line and base point. Base line were taken from obsrvation of longtime Landsat TM image band 5th based o opinion that shore line are clear seems and easy to interpreted at 10.00 am according to Landsat satellite reording time and the lowest tide time as base line. Location of lowest tide were selected at conspicuous place, such as cape, dry shore, etc and measured base on the BPN (Badan Pertahanan Nasional) base/ reference point (orde 2 and 3) on the district, with GPS differential metod. Twelve miles distance from base line of ocean bounddary is belong to province and 1/3 of is belong to district. Characteristic of marine landform as cape, bay, estuaria, attended to international rules. Final report of the research were 1) oean boundary map of Center Java Province, 2) the location and base/ reference points (orde 2 and 3) that could be reference as a base point differential method
Migrant and the Impact to Social-Economic of Household at Plumbon, Polokarto Sub-District
This research was caried out in Plumbon district of Mojolaban and it was intended to find out demographyc characteristic and migrant social economy, way of mobility process, factor, and reason which affect mobility and social economy effect of mobility action to the migrant family. The applied method to research was surveying and the area of the research was selected purposively, respondent in the surveying amount to 60 which was collected at random out of 320 population. The research outcome shows that mobility agent include in the group of potential age i.e domination of age 22 – 44 groun amount 63,33 percent. Thier education are relatively low i.e amount to 83.33 percent graduated from grammer school and lower. Or if it is more detailed there are 43.33 percent that did not go to school and did not pass grammer school. The work of respondent are 65 percent as workers of factory and construction. Average income per mount of migrant is relatively low i.e Rp 121.417 – only 30 perecent of then do the side job. The reason is that they have no more time as their working hours is long i.e 48 working hours per week, beside a larger part of them have not special skill. Before mobility action their work in farming, it mean that there happened the mobility of working. Decision to realize the mobility emerged from respondents them selves and the main information workes of destination area is an informal one. The effecct of go back and forth mobility to the migrant family is their income improvement, if it is compared to their income before mobility, it includes the problem of providing food, clothing, and education
