    Utilization of Tidal Land of The Wonogiri Reservoir

    Management  of water dam often failures due to the limited attention to the socio-economic activities of the local population. This research is conerned with agricultural land utilization practiced by the local inhabitants in the vicinity of the dam. Special attention is devoted to characteristics and motivation of the farming households, the way in which lands are utilized, as well as the contribution of the activities to the welfare of the households. The research combines secondary data analysis and a household survey. Primary data are collected via a household survey covering a sample of 150 households cultivating the draw down land of the dam. These households are taken by a simple random sampling, representing some 5,890 hhouseholds living in the vicinity of the dam. Data analysis are executed using various statistical techniques in order to test differences and correlation.The study reveals that the tidal areas of the Wonogiri Dam fluctuate from 1,300 to 6,400 hectares, within 1 to 7 moths period per annum. The cultivator of the tidal area consist of the farmer inhabitants of the dam prior to the construction (81,3 percent) and inhabitants of the surrounding areas of the dam and new omers from other areas (18,7 percent). These farming households are pushed to cultivate these lands due to limited control over land resources in their areas of origin ( averaged 1,057 m2). Variations in the areas of origin and motivation in utilizing of the lands do not lead to significant differences in the size of land cultivated in the tidal areas. Most of these lands are devoted to ultivate rice as staple  food (1,470 m2), rather than to cultivate cash crops (palawija) (1,118 m2). Farming techniques employed in these areas are much more simple than those prior to the construction of the dam or those elsewhere at present in the district. The most important factor affecting incomes in this activity is the amount of capital cost spent. These incomes comprises some 60 percent of the farming households

    One of the efforts to preserve the sources of vegetarian, soil, and water is to rehabilitate the land and soil conservation. The aim of this rehabilitation is increasing and maintaining the produtivity of the land, so it can be preserved and used optimally. Therefore, it is necessary to a  develop a variety of good soil conservation, such as vegetative method and civil engineering. To find an appropriate technology, so it is necessary to develop some alternatives of soil conservation technique that are mainly implemented at dry land with its slope of more than 15% in the upstream area of discharge. One of the most suitable soil conservation technique today is Alley Cropping. Based on the research (trial and error) in some areas, Alley Cropping could really provide a positive result in terms of erotion controlling and running off and maintain the land productivity. In addition, the technique is more easly operated and spends a cheaper cost than making a bench terrace

    There are three aims on this research: to determine  about the level of farming land capability and the sub class of farming land capability, to determine the area that posible to developed for farming land, to evaluate about farming land capability for landuse in the sub district of Boyolali Regency. The methods used in this research is observation in the field and laboratory with land unit approach as a standard  of mapping. The data collected from this research is degree of slope, erosion sensibility, erosion level, solum, texture, permeability, drainage, gravel/ pebble, and the flood hazard. The result of this research showed that the research area has II to VI land capability. Land capability II: 750 Ha (25,1%), III: 1308,1 Ha (43,7%), IV: 250 Ha (8,3%), V: 386,5 Ha (13%), VI: 299 Ha (10%). The dominant restriction is the soil moisture that consist of permeability and drainage

    Perkembangan daerah kota secara fisik ditandai dengan meluasnya wilayah kota dan bertambahnya daerah permukiman baru di sekitarnya. Di sisi lain perkembangan kota menyebabkan dampak negatif pada kondisi hidrologi, baik yang kuantitas maupun kualitas. Perluaasan daerah kota sering menyebabkan banjir dan genangan di daerah kota itu sendiri, yang disebabkan oleh meningkatnya koefisien aliran serta tidak mempunyai saluran drainase untuk menampung limpasan yang terjadi. Perkembangan kota menyebabkan kebutuhan air meningkat untuk penyediaan air di daerah kota tersebut. Air yang digunakan berasal dari berbagai sumber air, baik air permukaan maupun airtanah, yang sifatnya terbatas. Aktivitas penduduk kota menghasilkan limbah yang dibuang ke dalam lingkungan, yang dapat menemari air permukaan maupun airtanah. Di pihak lain airtanah masih merupakan sumber yang utama untuk penyediaan air di daerah kota. Perkembangan daerah kota dapat mempengaruhi kondisi hidrologi baik kuantitas dan kualitasnya, yang hal ini dapat dijadikan pertimbangan dalam perkembangan dan pengembangan kota

    While the geological study of sedimentary sand point bar of river is scientifically attractive, economically sedimentary sand is a material for the building. The sedimentary sand point frequency contains metal and nonmetal prescripitation that has a highly economical value. It also functions as a reservoir of good rock water, because it has  good porosity and permeability. The sedimentary sand point bar of Bengawan Solo that has been for 600.000 years ago in Ngloram-epu, has the thickness approximately around 5 – 25 m, grown horisontally around 5 – 7 km, and located  50 km2 which covers Ngloram-Wado-Kedungtuban. The sandy rock functioned as a good groundwater reservoir rock. The sand point bar in Bengawan Solo is precipitated on the stairs of Bengawan Solo that is situated on the clay rock having tongue formation.     The housing environment problem is the inreased population and housing density  in certain areas, as a consequence of the high population growth rate. This situation has brought about the unavailability of the existing public facilities. Such as the evironmental problem is also faced by Bantul regency. Starting from those stated environment problems, this study has in phased its general objectives on to comprehend the variation of housing environmental quality within various topographical, and to comprehend environment factors influencing the housing environmental quality within various topographial background.this study employs so-called sampling technique. Area sampling is carried out aording to topographical condition. Ten villages are randomly selected representing the sampling areas. The number of respondent is 300 households, selected proportionally based on the area stratification. Primary data is collected direct communication with informants are key persons. Data analysis employed simple correlation technique, multiple regression analysis, and one way variance analysis. The study reveals that differences in topographical characteristics are strongly associated with the differences in the quality of housing environment. The level of village development is also the main variable determining the quality of housing environment. A significant different of housing environment quality both among various topographical zones and various level of village development is reported. The achievement of programs oriented to village environment improvement is varying according to the distribution of village on the topographical zone. A greater success is commonly achieved by villages located in the upland and low land than those in the hilly areas. The social-economic condition of the dwellers is determining the quality of housing environment. Nevertheless, differences in the contribution of various variables to housing environment are encountered. In the whole areas, whether it is lowland, hilly or uplands areas, the family inome to be the first important facctor determining the housing environment quality

    This research is carried out in Janti, Polanharjo, Klaten, Central Java. Most of the female population of this area work as employees in manual industry of towel. The existence of the manual industry of towel enables the female labor force living in the area to have an opportunity to be employees at the industry, as indicated in the population structure that most of the population work as employees of the industry. The aim of this reasearch is to know the characteristic of the population in acordance with age, education, working hours, and experiences. Another aim is to know wage or income, expense of income, employees rights, and the other factors. The method used in this research is survey method with the number of a given sample, where as the data analysis used frequency and cross table. The result of the research indicates that most of the respondents are 20 – 25 years of age. The educational level of the respondents at the average of 40 hours a week, they have worked effectively for 7 – 9 years. The reason is in part they want to meet their daily needs and the other part they consider their jobs are easy to do and accept. The average of their incomes ranges from Rp 20.000 – Rp 50.000 a week. The factors influencing the different of income depend on the seniority and the amount of orking hours. Most of their incomes are spent on primary needs. Their right includes getting a meal once a day and working social insurance, but they don’t get health insurance

    Spatial Modeling of Flood Sea Tides (Case Study: East Coast Semarang)

    The aims of this research are 1) to construct a spatial model of tidal flood hazard, 2) to do hazard analysis of tidal flood. Spatial modelling has been generated using Geographic Information System (GIS) software and ILWIS software was seleccted to do the model operation. Neighborhood function and digital elevation model (DEM) have been applied on the modelling calculation process. DEM data was correted and menipulated using map calculation on the digital form. Tidal flood hazard analysis has been done by means of map calulation on the tidal flood hazard map and detail landuse map. Histogram and tabulation from the result of the map calculation have been analyzed to identify the impact of the tidal flood hazard on the landuse. The highest impact of the tidal flood hazard occurs on the 1 meter of tidal flood level, where in the inundation occurs mainly on the fishpond and yard/ open space area
